The Difference of Education between China and America

The Difference of Education between China and America As a student studied for 12 years in China, I have learned some difference of education between China and America after attending the America Culture course.

According to the difference of history, politics and economy, the Chinese cultural and American cultural both have their own features. They represent the different charm of the eastern and western culture, which leads to their education concept also have enormous distinction. In China, from most people’s perspective, the most essential mission is study and get a good grade for the teenagers before they get the admission to the college. While in America, the parents value the growth of their children most, the grade is not so important.

In my opinion, the National College Entrance Examination has deep influence on the education of China. There is a theory accepted by the most people in China: if you want to have a happy life, you must have a good job; and if you want to get a good job, you must go to a famous college. This is the reason why students, parents and teachers will do what they can to struggle for the better grade. In the contrary, getting a good grade in SAT or just having other skills can both offer you a good job in America.

As to the study content, Chinese education pay much attention to the knowledge on textbook. It emphasizes the intellectual skills. However, American schools tend to put more emphasis on developing

critical-thinking skills than they do on acquiring quantities of

facts.Therefore, the scores of Chinese students is generally higher than that of the American students. While, the American education system can help student to reach their maximum potential.

Because of the differences on purpose of studying, the teacher will adopt different teaching methods. The classes of Chinese teachers are considered to be in stable type. They prepare lessons meticulously and explain the knowledge points elaborately. They will not say the words which are have nothing to do with the class and not to mention active gestures and other non-verbal expression. But the America teachers will ask questions, make the students think for themselves, and express their own opinions in class. They speak loudly, and there are even debate competitions held in two groups which teachers sometimes participate in the discussion. One of my friend, who has went to America for higher education, said that the classroom atmosphere is very active there, even though at the moment the bell ring, students still talk of the questions.

To sum up, Chinese education and American education both have their advantages and shortcomings. What we should do is to take good advantages of both culture. Only in this way can we improve our shortcomings continuously, our education could develop rapidly in the future.
