Location Located in Skamania County, Washington, in the Pacific Northwestregion of the United States.
Date of Eruption 8:32:17 a.m. PDT (UTC?7) on Sunday, May 18, 1980
Damage/Death toll ? Fifty-seven people were killed during the eruption. ? Nearly 7,000 big game animals (deer, elk and bear) perished as well as all birds and most small mammals. ? 12 million Chinook and Coho salmon fingerlings were killed when hatcheries were destroyed.
Mount Pinatubo
active stratovolcano
located on the island of Luzon, near the tripoint of the Philippine provinces of Zambales, Tarlac, and Pampanga.
The first magmatic eruptions occurred on June 3, and the first large explosion on June 7 in 1991.
?
Up to 800 people were killed and 100,000 became homeless following the Mount Pinatubo eruption.
?
Most of the 200 to 800 people (accounts vary) who died during the eruption died due to the weight of the ash collapsing roofs and killing to occupants.
Mt Vesuvius

In the Gulf of Naples, Italy, about 9 kilometers (5.6 mi) east of Naples and a short distance from the shore.
In the year of 79 AD
?
An estimated 16,000 people died from the eruption.

A) what is ‘the ring of fire’?
The ring of fire refers to the Pacific ring of fire since the large number of earthquakes and volcanic eruption was occur in the surrounding area of the Pacific Ocean. The scientists pointed out that approximately 90% of earthquakes and even 81% of them were the largest earthquakes happened in that area. The high risk of volcanic eruption was due to the majority of the volcano there were active or dormant volcanoes.
B) What is the main theory about volcanic activity and earthquakes in this region? The plate tectonics could give an interpretation of this activity in the region of the Pacific Ocean. Meanwhile, the movement and collisions of lithospheric plates are also contributed to these two natural disaster. The reason for the eruption of volcanoes was buoyancy of the gases which are below down the earth's crust, due to the pressure, the gas will push and dissolved the magma to erupt. As for the earthquake, the point of origin of the earthquake is inside the earth and is known as the hypocenter. Different continental plates have pressure to each other, some of them might sudden slips of the land.
