The importance of reading classics

In this era, classic literary works have been replaced by fast –food reading ,as the result of fast –food culture sweeping the world. The number of people , appealing to we should read more classic, is increasing. The society also appeared in the two different points of view: some people hold the view that we should not abandon classics ,the wisdom of our ancestors, after the heritage from generation to another but to treasure them. Others believe venturing into the unknown is more important than reviewing the past. Classic, representing the wisdom of past, is out of date. As for me, I am in favor of the first point.

Reading make a full man. We can broaden our horizon and increase knowledge in many aspects through reading classics. The classic works, no matter in which way, literature, music, and even architecture, are involved in all aspects. Just like the famous classic literature novels, Les Misérables, written by Victor Hugo, a literary giant of French , tells the redemption process --story of released prisoners jean valjean, and it blended in France's history, politics, law, religion, etc. when we finish it, We will fully understand the French society after the Napoleonic wars.

Classic literature can cultivate our minds. On the one hand , with beautiful and unique language art, the classic literature helps us improve our aesthetic capacity.

At the same time, We got to relax our body and mind. On the other hand, when we read, we will keep thinking which is beneficial to cultivate and elevate our mind. Reading also have certain influence on our outlook on life and values, some invisible substance which guide us in life. Classics benefit us for a whole life.

All in all, we should be fully aware of the important role the classics play in our growth. Therefore, we should read more classics, not just only classic literature novels, but all kinds of books. Just as the old saying goes “Histori es make men wise; poets witty; the mathematics subtle; natural philosophy deep; moral grave; logic and rhetoric able to contend.” In addition, we should also appeal to the public to read classics so that an increasing number of general people can enjoy the pleasure of reading.
