have many strange adventures and find many strange things 3 the bottom of the ocean. He was a very good 4 . His characters often did surprising and sometimes impossible things, but they always

seemed 5 real people.

In another book, "Around the World in Eighty Days", Jules Verne creates Mr. Fogg, the hero, 6 made a bet that he would travel around the world in eighty days. Nowadays this may seem 7 to you, but in those days there were no planes or even cars. Mr. Fogg and his servant traveled in many different 8 , even on an elephant at one time! If you want to know their result, you should read the book.

Students who find their dominant learning style can m ake their learning m ore efficient.

The Visual Learner:"Look, you don't understand!"

The visual learner tends to learn by watching and copying what others do; they usually draw diagrams, m aps and pictures rather than taking notes in words. Kinaesthetic learners are used to doing things physically, not listening to explanations or watching demonstrations. They like to m ove around when they are reading or walk up and down while trying to m emorise things; they tend to touch and hug people a lot.

My teacher always used to tell m e off for doodling - now I realise it helped me concentrate.

The auditory learner:

The coursebooks, which m y colleagues found very interesting, were useless for me.

PALO ALTO, California –―Switching off the television m ay help prevent children from getting fatter – even if they do not change their diet or increase the am ount they ex ercise,‖ US researchers said last week.

A study of 192 third and fourth graders, generally aged eight and nine, found that children who cut the number of hours spent watching television gained nearly two pounds (0.9kg) less over a one-year period than those who did not change their television diet.

―The findings are important because they show that weight loss can only be the result of a reduction in television viewing and not any other activity,‖ said Thom as Robinson, a pediatrician(儿科专家) at Stanford University.

―Am erican children spend an average of m ore than four hours per day watching television and videos or playing video gam es, and rates of childhood being very fat have doubled over the past 20 years,‖ Robinson said.

In the study, presented this week to the Pediatric Academic Societies' annual meeting in San Francisco, the researchers persuaded about 100 of the students to reduce their television viewing by one-quarter to one-third.

Children watching fewer hours of television showed a significantly smaller increase in waist size and had less body fat than other students who continued their normal television viewing, even though neither group ate a special diet or took part in any extra exercise.

―One explanation for the weight loss could be the childre n unstuck to the television may simply have been m oving around more and burning off calories,‖ Robinson said. ―Another reason might be due to eating fewer m eals in front of the television. Some studies have suggested that eating in front of the TV encourages people to eat more,‖ Robinson said.
