The women in my family practiced demanding crafts, requiring precision and an eye for detail, an attention to color combinations, and a love of a patterned world.

Noticing was all around me. It was the clothes on my body and the quilt on my bed. Noticing was the crops in the fields and the clouds in the sky.

I’m a teaching writer. Seeing details is my job, both in my writing and in my teaching. Nothing is too small to ignore. Paying attention is my occupation. Noticing is my talent. Through paying attention to details carefully, I can get to know more about them than before. So if I notice that my students’ hair has a cinnamon(肉桂色的) cast instead of mocha (深咖啡色的)one, or that their eyes look dull instead of bright, I will know why. Different Cultures

The cultures of the East and the West really differ from each other a lot. 1

The origin of the Eastern cultures is mainly from two countries; China and India. Both of the two cultures are developed by rivers—the Yellow River in China and the Indus River in India. 2
