Hello, my name is River, my student number is13090517. And my thesis today is that China should rebuild the real sports spirit through promoting nationwide physical fitness and changing the education pattern.

A few weeks ago, I interviewed a sunny boy, al.makhool. he is crazy about sports, especially football and basketball. We talked about the present situation of sports in this university and in China. He is disappointed that most of the students in our university lack enthusiasm about sports. Few people have the habit of doing exercise everyday.

I told him such situation not only appears in our university, but also exist in the whole China society. It reflects the lack of sports spirit in China today. Maybe you will refute me, China won lots of medals in the Olympic Games and pingpang, badminton, diving are all China’strengths. However, I want to tell you the real sports spirit has nothing to do with medals. Our country is only training a batch of excellent athletes to get high ranks. By contrast, in many western countries, most people are the participants, not just the audience. They regard sports as a part of their daily lives. But in China, many athletes are eager to seek fame and wealth. The gold medal is everything. So our government should take actions to create the social atmosphere of nationwide physical fitness. They should guide

the whole society to form the correct values of sports. Government can perfect the sports facilities and make more people participate in the nationwide fitness. This is one respect in which we can do to improve the present situation.

And the other respect is education. In China, students have been planted an idea that sports is less important than study since childhood. We spend most of the time on study and can’t afford to do exercise everyday. Many students’interests in sports are killed. So we should change our education pattern. Schools and teachers should pay more attention to sports. If they can encourage students to take part in more activities and teach them how to enjoy sports, we will surely know what is the real sports spirit and better understand life lies in sports
