In the lecture, the professor questions the reading passage's assertion of carved stone ball's purpose and meaning. The professor puts forth the idea that the theories in the reading passage are not convincing.

Firstly, the reading passage mentions that the carved stone balls were weapons used in hunting or fighting. However, the surfaces of the balls are well preserved. So there is no possibility to be the weapon.

Secondly, the reading passage cites the fact that the carved stone balls were used as part of a primitive system of weights and measures. But the professor says that different stones hve different density. So, maybe same type of stone has different weight. So the carved stone balls cannot be used as a primitive weighting system.

Lastly, the reading passage states that the carved stone balls served a social purpose as opposed to a practical or utilitarian one. Because some of pattens on the stone were too simple to become the status symbols. Also, nearly no carved stone balls were found in a famous person's tomb.

In conclusion, the professor in the lecture are not convinced with the theories in the reading passage.
