I.INTRODUCTION

The issue of parity breaking at?nite temperature in3dimensional gauge theories with massive fermions posed a puzzle concerning the induced e?ective action:perturbative calcu-lations indicated that it was simply a Chern-Simons(C-S)term times a coe?cient that was a smoothly varying function of the temperature but this was in contradiction with gauge invariance[1]-[3].

A crucial advance was made in[4]by studying a D=1solvable model for which the exact e?ective action was gauge invariant although perturbative expansions produced gauge-noninvariant results.Subsequently,it was shown that the same phenomenon also takes place in2+1dimensions.This was proven through non-perturbative calculations of the e?ective action in the Abelian case[5]and of its explicit,exact,temperature dependent parity breaking part both in the Abelian and non-Abelian cases[6],for particular gauge backgrounds.

These results were discussed in connection with reduction of C-S terms by a symmetry [7]-[8]and also con?rmed by several alternative calculations[9]-[17].

It is the purpose of the present work to extend the results in[6]to the case of arbitrary odd dimensions,D=2d+1.Indeed,of the many interesting properties enjoyed by odd dimensional quantum?eld theories,not the less important is the possibility of equipping a gauge?eld with a Chern-Simons action.This parity breaking object is invariant under gauge transformations connected to the identity,but not necessarily so for”large”ones.Demand-ing invariance of the partition function under large gauge transformations has important consequences,particularly for the cases of non-trivial spacetimes(even in the Abelian case), or when the gauge group is non-Abelian.

As in the D=3case,for arbitrary D=2d+1dimensions the C-S action arises as the result of integrating out fermionic degrees of freedom at zero temperature.At?nite T,temperature dependent parity breaking terms are also induced by integrating fermionic degrees of freedom,in such a form that their zero T limit coincides,as we shall see,with the C-S action[18]-[19].

The clue in the approach of[6]to the3dimensional case was to choose a particular gauge background in which the temperature dependence in the parity breaking part of the e?ective action can be factored out,leaving all the spatial information encoded in the form of the2dimensional chiral anomaly.The main point in the present paper is to show that the same holds in D=2d+https://www.sodocs.net/doc/1117915679.html,ly,for particular gauge?eld backgrounds,the temperature dependence is isolated in a factor that can be related to the Polyakov loop and the spatial components of the gauge con?guration give rise to a factor which is nothing but the chiral anomaly,now in2d dimensions.This is done both in the Abelian case(Section II)and in the non-Abelian one(Section III)for a particular choice of the gauge background which is,however,su?ciently general as to allow to infer qualitative properties in the general case.We give a summary and discussion of our results in section IV.

II.THE ABELIAN CASE

Let us start by stressing that in the imaginary time formalism of?nite temperature Quantum Field Theory,the e?ective action for D=2d+1dimensional Dirac fermions with

mass M can be a non-extensive quantity whose temperature dependent,parity-odd part,will be called here Γ2d +1

This is one of the main results in our paper.We have been able to compute the exact temperature dependent parity-odd piece of the e?ective action for massive fermions in a gauge-?eld background in arbitrary dimensions.Remarkably,the temperature dependent factor is universal in the sense it does not depend on the number D=2d+1of the space-time dimensions.The particular background we have chosen makes evident the role of Polyakov loop in the temperature dependent factor of the e?ective action as will be discussed below. Concerning the dependence on the spatial components of the gauge?eld,it is just given by the2d chiral anomaly.As we shall see below,all these feautures are also valid in the non-Abelian case.

The D=2d+1=3case was discussed in detail in ref.[6].Let us then,as another example,write down here the explicit expressions for D=2d+1=5.In this case the well known4dimensional chiral anomaly is given by

(7)and (8).It is interesting to note that in the T →0limit exp(?Γ5odd )is nothing but the Polyakov loop with a coe?cient that corresponds to a topological invariant for the 2d -dimensional gauge theory.

Notice that,in order to take into account all contributions to the above mentioned con?gurations,one must approach them from a general one.Some terms that naively vanish for these con?gurations are actually ?nite since the limit A 0(x )→constant is undetermined.The same kind of undetermination is found in the D =3case;we explain here the correct procedure for that simplest example (see ref.[6]),since complications arising in higher

dimensions are unessential.We write S 3CS in momentum space,

It is immediately seen that the ?rst two terms contribute by the same amount,and that this amount is ?nite because A k (p )has a pole in p j ;the last term vanishes because A k (p )is also proportional to δ(p 0)(see [9]for details).

In other words,a safe procedure in coordinate space is the following:we?rst write the integrand without spatial derivatives acting on A0,by means of integrations by parts,and only then use the fact that?0A j=0.This gives twice the result of the naive restriction given by using?0A j=?i A0=0.

The same check can be done in the general2d+1dimensional case.The correct evaluation of the Chern-Simons term gives then d+1times the naive result.In particular,one gets full agreement between eqs.(28)and(29).

Let us end this section by discussing the issue of gauge invariance under large gauge-transformations,a question which,as explained in the introduction,was put in doubt by per-turbative calculations for D=3.For the particular abelian background we are considering, such transformations?wind around the cyclic time direction,?(β,x)=?(0,x)+(2π/e)k, with k∈Z.The exact result we have obtained for the temperature-dependent,parity-odd e?ective action,eq.(24),shows that large gauge transformations may change the tempera-ture dependent factor if its winding number is odd.Indeed,such a transformation,say with a winding number k=2p+1,shifts the argument of the tangent in(2p+1)π.One has to keep track of this shift by shifting the branch used for the arctan de?nition.Now,if the integral of the anomaly is an even integer n=2m the total change of the e?ective action is 2m(2p+1)πi and hence exp(?Γodd)remains unchanged.In contrast,if n=2m+1,it changes its sign.However,as it is well known,there is a mass and temperature independent parity anomaly contribution which we have not included in(24)[22]-[24]which precisely changes its sign so that the exponential of the complete e?ective action is indeed gauge-invariant.

III.THE NON-ABELIAN CASE

We extend here the analysis to the a non-Abelian case which,for a special class of gauge

?eld con?gurations,generates aΓ2d+1

Some remarks about this expression are in order.First,note that it is non-trivial only for D=2d+1>3dimensions since for2d=2the singlet anomaly vanishes.Depending on the gauge group and the2d manifold over which the anomaly is integrated the Pontryagin index n can be a non trivial integer.Second,it is an object which is sensitive to large gauge transformations in2d+1spacetime,putting together the winding associated with the timelike directionτ(re?ected in A00),with the usual winding transformations in2d. However,the restrictions on the background gauge?elds that we have imposed do not allow us to analyse general large gauge transformations although we expect that,as in the Abelian case,gauge-invariance is respected.

IV.SUMMARY AND DISCUSSION

As a summary of our results we should like to stress the following points

(i)The exact?nite temperature e?ective action induced by massive fermions in arbitrary odd dimensions has the proper behavior under gauge transformations.Although?nite tem-perature calculations to?xed perturbative order necessarily violate gauge invariance,when all orders are taken into account the invariance is restored.

(ii)Using a certain class of gauge?eld con?gurations,the temperature dependent parity-odd part of the e?ective action(i.e.,the relevant part to investigate possible gauge invariant violations at?nite temperature)can be calculated exactly in arbitrary odd dimensions.The result is a gauge invariant action which is not just a Chern-Simons term with a temperature-dependent coe?cient but which reduces,in the low temperature regime,to this product and con?rms,at T=0that massive fermions induce a C-S action.

(iii)An exact calculation was possible becauseγ0in2d+1dimensions can be always taken as the chiralγ5matrix in2d dimensions so that the temperature dependent part of the e?ective action could be decoupled through aγ0rotation with constant phase.As it is well-known,the resulting chiral Fujikawa Jacobian can be exactly computed and yields to the 2d dimensional chiral anomaly.This gives another example of the connection between C-S terms in odd-dimensions and even-dimensional topological invariants connected to chiral anomalies[18]-[19].

(iv)Although our result is obtained for a particular class of gauge?eld backgrounds(vanish-ing electric?eld and time independent magnetic?eld in the Abelian case),similar to those considered in the pioneering works at zero temperature[22]-[23],there is no doubt that the same gauge invariant answer should be con?rmed for general gauge-?eld con?gurations, using for example aζ-function regularization analysis.

(v)Remarkably,the temperature dependence of the parity-odd e?ective action is the same irrespectively of the number of space-time dimensions.This could be attributed to the particular background we considered but the topological nature of the result suggests that a similar result should hold in general.This is also sustained by the fact that the dependence on the2d-dimensional components of the gauge-?eld background occurs through the axial anomaly,also a quantity of topological nature.

We would like to end this work by noting that the results we derived in a?nite temper-ature Quantum Field Theory language,could also be interpreted in terms of a compacti?ed Euclidean theory in an odd number of dimensions,where the curled coordinate is not nec-essarily the Euclidean time,but it may be a compact dimension of length L=β.If this interpretation is adopted,and one takes only the lowest Kaluza-Klein modes for the parity conserving part of the e?ective action,one then has a2d reduced theory,where the odd part of the e?ective action we evaluated plays the role of aθ-vacuum term(we assume,of course, that there is also a Yang-Mills action for the gauge?eld).

心力衰竭治疗中ACEI和ARB的选择和应用 郭静萱,北京大学第三医院心内科,100083 Framingham研究显示,男性心力衰竭(简称心衰)患者2年死亡率37%,6年死亡率高达82%[1]。随着对充血性心衰机制认识的不断深入,现在认为导致心衰发生发展的基本机制是心室重塑。肾素-血管紧张素-醛固酮系统(RAAS)和交感神经系统的过度活化在心肌重塑中起关键作用,故血管紧张素转换酶抑制剂(ACEI)和血管紧张素受体拮抗剂(ARB)作为两大神经内分泌抑制剂在心衰治疗中的地位越来越突出。 一、ACEI在慢性心衰中的临床应用 ACEI在心肌梗死和慢性心衰中的应用已走了20年的路程,“ACEI是慢性心衰治疗的基石”——这个重要观念是世界心脏病之父Braunwald教授于2000年给予ACEI的再次肯定和强调。ACEI治疗充血性心衰有两种机制:可抑制RAAS,对循环和组织RAAS均有作用;还可抑制缓激肽降解,提高缓激肽水平。1987年,首项用ACEI治疗心衰的CONSENSUS 研究证实,ACEI类药物可使心衰所致死亡率降低27%[2]。从CONSENSUS到SOLVD-T、V-HeFT Ⅱ、SA VE及SOLVD-P,20年来已有30余项临床试验(不包括急性心肌梗死)评价了ACEI对充血性心衰的作用,一致证实ACEI在慢性心衰患者改善左心室功能,缓解症状,提高运动耐受性,降低死亡率方面均有明显效果,并且即使在重度心衰患者中也是安全的。32项试验的汇总分析显示ACEI治疗心衰,可使心衰死亡率或住院率下降35%,总死亡率下降23%,心衰死亡率下降31%,致命性/非致命性心肌梗死下降20%。以上ACEI大型临床试验的证据确立了ACEI在治疗心衰中的地位。2005年美国心脏病学会(ACC)/美国心脏地学会(AHA)慢性心衰指南和2005年欧洲心脏病学会(ESC)心衰指南均建议将ACEI作为治疗左心室收缩功能减低[左心室射血分数(LVEF)低于40%~45%]患者的一线药物(Ⅰ,A)。ACEI是从心衰高危人群(阶段A)、前临床心衰(阶段B)、临床心衰(阶段C)和难治性心衰(阶段D)这4个阶段都推荐应用的药物[阶段A(Ⅱa,A),阶段B、C、D(Ⅰ,A)]。全部NYHAⅠ~Ⅳ级心衰患者(Ⅰ,A)(包括所有慢性收缩性心衰患者和无症状的左心室收缩功能异常患者)也都必须无限期地终生服用ACEI,除非有禁忌证或不能耐受。 然而在全球都存在ACEI使用剂量不足的现象,已明确诊断为心衰的患者中,只有不足一半的患者使用ACEI,并且使用剂量只是临床试验中靶剂量的25%~50%。其原因主要是过分担心ACEI的副作用,如低血压和肾功能损害等,我国也是如此。根据中华医学会心血管病学分会对全国各地41家医院1980、1990和2000年三个全年段10 795例心衰住院患者回顾性调查资料显示,ACEI使用率分别为14.0%、26.4%和40.4%,虽然有明显增加趋势,但在2000年仍小于50%。 给药方法和原则如下。 1. 尽早应用:指南中规定,所有左心功能不全者(无论是否有症状)均应使用ACEI;伴水肿者可合用利尿剂。所有慢性充血性心衰的患者,无论是否有症状,只要LVEF<45%,或左心腔已增大,都需应用ACEI。应用时从极小剂量开始,逐渐加量。 2. 足量应用:指南中指出心衰中ACEI的应用为,从小剂量开始,争取达到循证医学的靶剂量,如卡托普利6.25 mg,2次/d至150 mg/d,依那普利2.5 mg,2次/d至40 mg/d;ACEI 的靶剂量并不是根据患者治疗反应决定的,只要患者能耐受,争取能达到循证医学的靶剂量,达到最大耐受的靶剂量后应长期服用,以继续缓解症状和降低心血管事件的危险,切勿轻易撤药;在临床应用中,ACEI起效常有延迟现象(如1~2个月),不要过急。 国内外临床实践中小剂量应用现象十分普遍,以为小剂量也同样有效而且更好,这是一种误解。研究已证实,在衰竭的心脏组织中,ACE m-RNA、ACE的活性和AngⅡ水平均显著增加,而组织中的ACE比循环中的更难抑制,这提示在临床上对组织中ACE的抑制需要更大剂量的ACEI,以减少组织中AngⅡ的含量。大剂量较之小剂量对血流动力学、神经内
