How to Improve Oral English
Good oral English can benefit our schoolwork, career, and personal life, especially for most English major students. Therefore, we should learn to speak English well, and there are many efficient ways to improve our oral English.
I think that most of us may have encountered such a situation that we are trying to expound our ideas, but often tongue-tied, because we can’t find the right words to say, so we must read more and listen more, because reading and listening are basic steps to accumulate vocabularies and ways of different sentences expressions, so as to be familiar with the methods of expressing some ideas and concepts in English. In another word, at this stage, our main emphasis is to store much basic knowledge about English, not only because it can increase our vocabulary, but it also can develop our sense of language, which is useful for us to blurt out English.
Second，whenever possible we need to read aloud to practice our pronunciation, and we can read English dialogues, news, articles and speeches out to find the differences in pronunciation between native speakers and us, so that we can correct our wrong pron unciation. What’s more, watching some English TV shows and series is helpful to our oral English, because being exposed to English-speaking environment for a long time makes us master the pronunciation skills that we often ignore more quickly, and know more interesting, useful idioms and expressions for daily communication. For example, the word “Yolo” is widely used in many countries, which means that we only live once, so we should do what we like, and it’s a buzzword, frequently appearing in some TV programs. Third, we must seize every chance to speak English, speaking with native English speakers would be better. As we all know, the most efficient method of improving oral English is to speak a lot, so when we meet foreigners, we should screw up our courage to communicate with them instead of being afraid of making mistakes. In addition, we can chat with friends in English, which seems to be crazy, but we shouldn’t be shy during the learning period.
With these useful learning skills, our oral English would be improved a lot, and I hope all of us can speak fluent English.
