What makes a hero

For most people, hero is a person or main character of a literary work who, in the face of danger, combats, adversity through impressive feats of ingenuity, bravery or strength, often sacrificing his or her own personal concerns for some greater good. However, the definition of a hero has changed throughout time, and the Merriam Webster dictionary defines a hero as “a person who is admired for great or brave acts or fine qualities.”

But contemporary China has a number of different from the traditional sense of the hero. Lei Feng is a widely known hero in China. He was a soldier of the Chinese army in Communist legend.

Lei was characterized as a selfless and modest person devoted to the Communist Party. In 1963, he became the subject o f a nationwide posthumous propaganda campaign, “Follow the examples of Comrade Lei Feng.” Lei was portrayed as a model citizen, and the masses were encouraged to emulate his selflessness, modesty, and devotion to Mao. So that, we could know that sometimes a man who be advertised as a hero maybe is political instrument.

And the other one who solved a social issue is called hero, like Chai Jing who expose the haze problem by a video. She is a hero by expose the dark of society, in the other word, the social issue bring up her. We praise her and we also should remember the problem.

Another hero is high-risk occupations like fireman. The title of a hero is system of social compensation and they deserve it.
