i have a dream---martin luther king

i am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation.

five score years ago, a great american, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, signed the emancipation proclamation. this momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of negro slaves, who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice. it came as a joyous daybreak to end the long night of their captivity. it would be fatal for the nation to overlook the urgency of the moment. this sweltering summer of the negros legitimate discontent will not pass until there is an invigorating autumn of freedom and equality. nineteen sixty-three is not an end but a beginning. those who hope that the negro needed to blow off steam and will now be content will have a rude awakening if the nation returns to business as usual. there will be neither rest nor tranquility in america until the negro is granted his citizenship rights. the whirlwinds of revolt will continue to shake the foundations of our nation until the bright day of justice emerges.

but there is something that i must say to my people who stand on the warm threshold, which leads into the palace of justice. in the process of gaining our rightful place we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred. we must ever conduct our struggle on the high plane of dignity and discipline. we must not allow our creative protest to degenerate into physical violence. again and again we must rise to the majestic heights of meeting physical force with soul force.

i have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: we hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal.

i have a dream that one day on the red hills of georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.

i have a dream that one day even the state of mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.

i have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by the content of their character.

i have a dream today!

i have a dream that one day, down in alabama, with its vicious racists, with its governor having his lips dripping with the words of interposition and nullification; one day right down in alabama little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers. i have a dream today!

i have a dream that one day every valley shall be exalted, and every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight, and the glory of the lord shall be revealed and all flesh shall see it together.

and so let freedom ring -- from the prodigious hilltops of new hampshire.

let freedom ring -- from the mighty mountains of new york.

let freedom ring -- from the heightening alleghenies of pennsylvania.

let freedom ring -- from the snow-capped rockies of colorado.

let freedom ring -- from the curvaceous slopes of california.

but not only that.

let freedom ring -- from stone mountain of georgia.let freedom ring -- from lookout mountain of tennessee.

let freedom ring -- from every hill and molehill of mississippi,

from every mountainside, let freedom ring!

and when this happens, when we allow freedom to ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of gods children, black men and white men, jews and gentiles, protestants and catholics, will be able to join hands and sing in the words of the old negro spiritual,

free at last, free at last.

thank god almighty, we are free at last.

inaugural address------ john f. kennedy

we observe today not a victory of party but a celebration of freedom, symbolizing an end as well as a beginning, signifying renewal as well as change. for i have sworn before you and almighty god the same solemn oath our forebears prescribed nearly a century and three-quarters ago.

let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty.

this much we pledge -- and more.

to those old allies whose cultural and spiritual origins we share, we pledge the loyalty of faithful friends. united there is little we cannot do in a host of cooperative ventures. divided there is little we can do, for we dare not meet a powerful challenge at odds and split asunder.

if a free society cannot help the many who are poor, it cannot save the few who are rich.

finally, to those nations who would make themselves our adversary, we offer not a pledge but a request: that both sides begin anew the quest for peace -- before the dark powers of destruction unleashed by science engulf all humanity in planned or accidental self-destruction.

let us never negotiate out of fear. but let us never fear to negotiate.

let both sides explore what problems unite us instead of belaboring those problems which divide us. let both sides, for the first time, formulate serious and precise proposals for the inspection and control of arms, and bring the absolute power to destroy other nations under the absolute control of all nations.

and if a beachhead of cooperation may push back the jungle of suspicion, let both sides join in creating a new endeavor -- not a new balance of power, but a new world of law -- where the strong are just, and the weak secure, and the peace preserved. all this will not be finished in the first one hundred days. nor will it be finished

in the first one thousand days; nor in the life of this administration; nor even perhaps in our lifetime on this planet. but let us begin.

in your hands, my fellow citizens, more than mine, will rest the final success or failure of our course. since this country was founded, each generation of americans has been summoned to give testimony to its national loyalty. the graves of young americans who answered the call to service surround the globe.

can we forge against these enemies a grand and global alliance, north and south, east and west, that can assure a more fruitful life for all mankind? will you join in that historic effort?

and so, my fellow americans, ask not what your country can do for you; ask what you can do for your country.

my fellow citizens of the world, ask not what america will do for you, but what together we can do for the freedom of man.

finally, whether you are citizens of america or citizens of the world, ask of us here the same high standards of strength and sacrifice which we ask of you. with a good conscience our only sure reward, withhistory the final judge of our deeds, let us go forth to lead the land we love, asking his blessing and his help, but knowing that here on earth gods work must truly be our own. mr. chief justice and friends: this is a day of national consecration. and i am certain that on this day my fellow americans expect that on my induction into the presidency i will address them with a candor and a decision which the present situation of our people impels.

this is preeminently the time to speak the truth, the whole truth, frankly and boldly. nor need we shrink from honestly facing conditions in our country today. this great nation will endure as it has endured, will revive and will prosper.

so, first of all, let me assert my firm belief that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself -- nameless, ueasoning, unjustified terror which paralyzes needed efforts to convert retreat into advance. in every dark hour of our national life, a leadership of frankness and a vigor has met with that understanding and support of the people themselves which is essential to victory. and i am convinced that you will again give that support to leadership in these critical days.

true, they have tried. but their efforts have been cast in the pattern of an outworn tradition. faced by failure of credit, they have proposed only the lending of more money. stripped of the lure of profit by which to induce our people to follow their false leadership, they have resorted to exhortations, pleading tearfully for restored confidence. they only know the rules of a generation of self-seekers. they have no vision, and when there is no vision the people perish.

yes, the money changers have fled from their high seats in the temple of our civilization. we may now restore that temple to the ancient truths. the measure of that restoration lies in the extent to which we apply social values more noble than mere monetary profit.

happiness lies not in the mere possession of money; it lies in the joy of achievement, in the thrill of creative effort. the joy, the moral stimulation of work no longer must be forgotten in the mad chase of evanescent profits. these dark days, my friends, will be worth all they cost us if they teach us that our true destiny is not to be

ministered unto but to minister to ourselves, to our fellow men.

recognition of that falsity of material wealth as the standard of success goes hand in hand with the abandonment of the false belief that public office and high political position are to be valued only by the standards of pride of place and personal profit; and there must be an end to a conduct in banking and in business which too often has given to a sacred trust the likeness of callous and selfish wrongdoing. small篇二:3-5分钟英语演讲稿(30篇)

i believe in our future

honorable judges, fellow students:

good afternoon!

recently, ther is a heated debate in our society. the college students are the beneficiaries of a rare privilege, who receive exceptional education at extraordinary places. but will we be able to face the challenge and support ourselves against all odds? will we be able to better the lives of others? will we be able to accept the responsibility of building the future of our country?

the cynics say we care for nothing other than grades; and we neglect the need for character cultivation. but again, the cynics are wrong. we care deeply for each other, we cherish freedom, we treasure justice, and we seek truth. last week, thousands of my fellow students had their blood type tested in order to make a contribution for the children who suffer from blood cancer.

as college students, we are adolescents at the critical turning point in our lives. we all face a fundamental choice: cynicism or faith, each will profoundly impact our future, or even the future of our country. i believe in all my fellow classmates. though we are still inexperienced and even a little bit childish. i believe that we have the courage and faith to meet any challenge and take on our responsibilities. we are preparing to assume new responsibilities and tasks, and to use the education we have received to make our world a better place. i believein our future.

change the ingredients of your life

so my dear friend, if faith, hope, love, endurance are added to your life, you will find the confidence to conquer your limitation and embrace new challenges. and hopefully with my speech included, you will have a fantastic speech contest.

when two cultures meet, there may be things in one culture, which do not fit into the tradition of the other. when this happens, we need to learn to understand and respect the customs of another culture. then there are certain things some people may not like. to this, i will say, if you do not like it, please try to tolerate it. to learn to tolerate what you personally don’t like is a great virtue at a time when different cultures mix and merge. before us, there are two rivers, eastern and western cultures. at present, they may run in different courses. but eventually, they will converge into the vast sea of human culture.

right now, i can see peoples of eastern and western cultures, standing side by side, singing the olympic theme song: we are hand in hand, heart to heart, together we will shape a beautiful tomorrow! thank you!

farewell, indifference

who was the most well-known figure in china last month? it’s ma jiajue—the college student who murdered 4 of his roommates. many people attributed his crime to his poverty and deficient education. in my opinion, his crime also has much to do with his classmates’ indifference.

indifference is a terrible disease in today’s colleges and the whole society. it’s not rare that two students who have studied together for 4 years have never spoken to each other. it’s not rare that a student who has been absent from class for several days is not noticed at all. it’s also not rare that a student who has severe psychological problems is not cared about at all.

some people may say ‘what the students with psychological problems like ma jiajue need is not care but psychotherapy.” however, when people are ill, what they need most is not only medical treatment, but also care from people around them. every smile and every caring word will bring sunshine to their life.

The first story happened when I was in primary school, I wrote in my composition that my dream was to be a teacher when I grew up. Meanwhile, what my classmates wrote about their dreams was that he or she wanted to be a doctor, a scientist or an astronaut. The second story happened at my first year in university. At the careers planning class, when the teacher asked about our dreams, one of my classmates stood up and said, “I want to be a farmer, because I grow up in a farmer's family and I love to be engaged in agriculture.” When he sat down, everyone clapped. These two stories happened during my growth process, from which I got my understanding of dreams. When I was a child I believed that a dream must be a big dream, but when I grow up I find this big dream is so far away from me, I know little about it, and I have done nothing

Every year in the United States alone 2077000 couples make a legal and spiritual decision to spend the rest of their lives together ...( Laughter)and not to have sex with anyone else ever. He buys a ring she buys a dress. They go shopping for all sorts of things. She takes him to Arthur Murray for ballroom dancing lessons. And the big day comes. And they’ll stand before God and family and some guy her dad once did business with and they’ll vow that nothing not abject poverty not life-threatening illness not complete and utter misery will ever put the tiniest damper on their eternal love and devotion. ( Laughter )These optimistic young bastards promise to honor and cherish each other through hot flashes and mid-life crises and a cumulative 50-lb. Weight gain until that far-off day when one of them is finally able to rest in peace. You know because they can’t hear the snoring anymore. And then they’ll get stupid drunk and smash cake in each other’s faces and do the Macarena and we’ll be there showering them with towels and toasters and drinking their free booze and throwing birdseed at them every single time -- even though we know statistically half of them will be divorced within a decade. (Laughter )Of course ,the other half won’t, right? They’ll keep forgetting anniversaries and arguing about where to spend holidays and debating which way the toilet paper should come off of the roll. And some of them will even still be enjoying each other’s company when neither of them can chew solid food anymore. And researchers want to know why.I mean look it doesn’t take a double-blind placebo-controlled study to figure out what makes a marriage not work. Disrespect boredom too much time on Facebook having sex with other people. But you can have the exact opposite of all of those things -- respect excitement a broken Internet connection mind-numbing monogamy --and the thing still can go to hell in a hand basket. So what’s going on when it doesn’t What do the folks who make it all the way to side-by-side burial plots have in common What are they doing right What can we learn from them And if you’re still happily sleeping solo why should you stop what you’re doing and make it your life’s work to find that one special person that you can annoy for the rest of your life Well researchers spend billions of your tax dollars trying to figure that out. They stalk blissful couples and they study their every move and mannerism. And they try to pinpoint what it is that sets them apart from their miserable neighbors and friends. And it turns out the success stories share a few similarities actually beyond they don’t have sex with other people. For instance in the happiest marriages the wife is thinner and better looking than the husband. (Laughter ) Obvious right. It’s obvious that this leads to marital bliss because women we care a great deal about being thin and good looking whereas

When you are a kid, you get asked this one particular question a lot, it really gets kind of annoying. What do you want to be when you grow up? Now, adults are hoping for answers like, I want to be an astronaut or I want to be a neurosurgeon, youre adults in your imaginations. Kids, theyre most likely to answer with pro-skateboarder, surfer or minecraft player. I asked my little brother, and he said, seriously dude, Im 10, I have no idea, probably a pro-skier, lets go get some ice cream. See, us kids are going to answer something were stoked on, what we think is cool, what we have experience with, and thats typically the opposite of what adults want to hear. But if you ask a little kid, sometimes youll get the best answer, something so simple, so obvious and really profound. When I grow up, I want to be happy. For me, when I grow up, I want to continue to be happy like I am now. Im stoked to be here at TedEx, I mean, Ive been watching Ted videos for as long as I can remember, but I never thought Id make it on the stage here so soon. I mean, I just became a teenager, and like most teenage boys, I spend most of my time wondering,

壮哉我中国少年, 与国无疆! that’s all for today. thank you for lending me your ears! hello everyone,my name is deng yonghao.today i will talk about ideal.everyone has an ideal, some of them are doctors, bosses and other ideals.but i have a usual ideal-i want to be a teacher.if you hear this, you will ask me why ‘do you want to be a teacher?’i will tell you a story:’long long ago,a king asked people,’what do you do for our country?a doctor said he had treated nine thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine people.the king said’no’.then a boss said he had sold nine thousand nine hundred and ninety-nine things.the king said’no’.at last an old man with a boy came to the front and said children were country’s flowers,we must need some people to teach them.the king said you were the best people!all right we must thank our teachers because they were very busy!and i want to be an english teacher like miss guan.so,i must do everything well from now on.first,i will learn english best.then,i will be admitted to a good middle school, like no.1 middle school. next i will be admitted to beijing normal https://www.sodocs.net/doc/3915590253.html,st, i will have a good job!i have an ideal,i will be good at everything.ill begin from small things, taking exams carefully, studying hard.i have some good suggestions:first, speak english in life.second, write english well.third, know many words.that’s all, thanks a lot! 篇二:我的理想英语演讲稿 我的理想英语演讲稿 good moring everyone ,today i will tell you my dream keeped in my heart . the ideal is dream , it is power that people move forward to. each people have their different ideams. i have my own ideam . when i was childen i like to look fairy tale ,so every day i looked lots of fairy tale books , sometimes mom told me beautiful fairy tales, wonderful legends . every time , i naively looked at sparked stars in the sky , i thought : when i grow up would like to be a writer and write many articles let people read and appreciate . as time goes slowly, this beautiful

Dream is looking forward to, and the dream is strong - is fleeting dream you insist on the ideal as their courage and perseverance, are you responsible for their own highest level. But ask yourself, how many of us to accomplish his original dream in mind? Our dream is a simple belief, is a future and life of their own responsibility. Perhaps, is the Youth grand ambitions; perhaps, is the adolescent confusion and impulsive; maybe just a plain desire, desire applause, eager for success. Countless "may," innumerable "hope" because of our youthful full of miracles, large and small dreams in our hearts, in every corner of life filled with fragrance.
