Five years ago I worked for a few weeks as a doctor in a new dental clinic(牙科诊所) at Victor Harbour, to the south of Adelaide and an hour further away than my usual workplace. My first day there was a rush—driving to a new clinic and getting used to the clinical environment.

As it was all new to me, I took off my rings: my wedding ring, and one that was a gift from my husband. I put them in tissue(纸巾) and placed them beside my computer.

During my lunch break, I noticed the tissue and thought that it did not look very clean and threw it into the rubbish bin. I went about my work and my day went well; I met new patients and felt that I had been doing well at work.

Driving home at the end of the day, just moments before I reached my house, I noticed that my rings were missing. I felt the heat in my body rise, my face burning red. I felt sick to my stomach.

I spent an hour or so making calls, trying to find my rings. The first people I called were my manager and clinical leader and they gave me a few phone numbers for cleaners. I got in touch with a lady who managed the cleaning services for the clinic, and she told me that the bins had already been collected.

I knew nothing could be done now. I had lost my rings. But after two hours or so, I received the most amazing phone call. The cleaner had gone through the bins and found my rings! I was so thankful to her who had taken the trouble to go through the bins—which is not a pleasant task—to find my priceless rings.

I worked at that clinic the following day, so I bought chocolates to thank this wonderful person. Unluckily, I did not get to meet her as she was not at work that day.

As Kasara and her brother, Darryl, walked to school, Kasara stopped to

pick up a feather, and a few minutes later, a leaf from an oak tree.

“What are you doing, Kasara?” Darryl asked.

“I’m collecting objects to create a collage,” Kasara explained.

You can even draw or paint on a collage if you want,” said Kasara.

“That sounds like fun. Can I make a collage too?” Darryl asked.

“Sure. We can work on it together after we finish our homework tonight,” answered Kasara.

During the rest of the walk to school, Darryl looked for objects he could use to create his collage, and he continued to look for more things as he walked home that afternoon.

He found a piece of string, some shiny, colourful paper, and even some bark from a tree.

Kasara laughed as she watched him. “You’re excited about this project, aren’t you?” she asked.

“Yeah! I have lots of ideas about how I want my collage to look,” Darryl said.

The children arrived at home and first did their homework. Then they gathered the art supplies they would need to make the collage, including scissors, glue, markers, and a stack of old magazines and newspapers. Both children placed on the table all the objects they had found during their walk, and then Kasara unrolled a large piece of poster board and cut it in half; half for herself and half for her brother.

“I like to arrange the objects before I glue anything down,” Kasara explained to Darryl. “That way, I can make changes if I want to, but once the objects are glued on, the collage is pretty permanent.”

The children worked together for the rest of the evening. After a few hours, they had glued everything in place and set the collages aside for the glue to dry thoroughly. The next morning, they each went to check on their completed projects.

Darryl looked at his sister and grinned(露齿而笑). “You’re the art instructor(指导者) of the family now. What will tomorrow’s art project be?” He asked. She laughed and ruffled(弄乱) his hair.
