Sequoia trees are one of the largest and oldest of living things. Some of these trees are three thousa nd years old. The great sequoia tree grows along the western part of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. Sequoia can grow to be almost 32 feet tall.

Ano ther type of tree, called bon sai, grows in a pot in homes. A bon sai is a min iature (微型)form of a tree as it might be found in n ature. Some bon sai trees have lived for more tha n 200 years.

To beg in a bon sai garde n you pla nt a very small tree in a small pot. As it grows, you cut back the roots to keep the tree small. Bran ches are also cut back or forced to turn in order to form them into a special shape. In this way the bran ches can be kept from grow ing too long.

A bonsai tree doesn ' t grow to be more than 2 feet. Compare this with the largest living sequoia known, the General Sherman Tree in Sequoia National Park, which measures 275 feet tall and 103 feet around. Nobody ever cut its roots!

Because sequoias have bee n around for milli ons of years, dino saurs (恐龙)may have even rested beneath them. Bonsai trees were first created about one thousa nd years ago in China and were in troduced into Japa n two hun dred years later.

Would a sequoia make a good bon sai tree? Probably not. Uni ess, of course, you had

a few thousa nd years to take care of it!

A. It is a pot pla nt.

B. It is found in n ature.

C. It is kept in the shade.

D. It is a pla nt without roots.

33. What is the feature that both a sequoia and a bon sai tree have?

A. They look similar in shape.

B. They grow in the mou nta in.

C. They can live for many years.

D. They grow well in warm weather.
