外企面试的时候，大多数的面试官都会以“谈谈你自己的情况吧（tell me about yourself）”这样一个开放性题目（open-ended question）开始这场面试。看似简简单单让你谈谈自己，里面的学问可是真不小。

首先，这样的问题是一种能够快速打破僵局的方式，并且能有效缓解你的紧张、让你在接下来的面试过程中感到舒适的做法（it is a quick way to break the ice and make you feel comfortable during the coming interview process）。

其次，你的言谈举止让面试官对你的性格有了大致把握（get insight into your personality)，同时基本确定你是否适合这份工作（to help determine if you are fit enough for the job）。

那么如何在这短短的几分钟“脱颖而出（to stand out）”，让HR对你有不错的印象呢？

接下来给大家支支招，教你如何做有效的自我介绍（self introduction）。

我们要说的第一点是一个谨记：话不可过多，亦不可过少（Sharing too much or too little information isn't a good idea）。滔滔不绝地一股脑介绍自己显得会显得“用力过猛（overwhelming）”，HR并不会对你的方方面面感兴趣（doesn't want to know everything about you），又不是在相亲；但惜字如金又使得面试官怀疑你为何这样放不开（can make him or her wonder why you aren't more open）。以此为指导原则，接下来咱们就来具体看看你到底应该说什么，怎么说。

Step 1、先入为主不可取，“绕点弯路”效果更佳

你好不容易遇到了一份合适的工作，想在面试中尽可能快速地取得面试官的青睐与关注，这种心情是可以理解的，但在这段“free talk”中要注意隐去这样强烈的目的心，切勿先入为主地迎合或讨好，一上来就夸贵公司如何如何好，自己工作优势与这里多么多么契合（fit）。

比较聪明，同时也狠低调的做法是（a more low-key approach）：与面试官建立初级良好的私人关系（develop a personal rapport with your interviewer），让他（她）首先对你所展现出的个性魅力感到满意，才有可能对你的技能（facility）、学历背景（education background）等要件不那么苛刻。那么具体如何做呢？我们的建议是：“绕点弯路”----分享个人兴趣。以一些与当下求职没有直接关系的个人喜好的分享开始（starting out by sharing some personal interests which don't relate directly to your work. ），能让HR快速且直观地了解到你的性格优势。举例说，可以是你热衷的爱好（a hobby which you are passionate about ）：象棋（Chinese chess）、乒乓球（table tennis）、滑雪（skiing）、古玩（antiquing)等等。

面试官从这些爱好中可以发掘到你性格中的闪光点，毕竟一个人的喜好很大程度上塑造（shape）了他的人格（individuality）。比如你喜欢每天夜跑（night running）或者每周做三次瑜伽（yoga），这代表你健康、精力充沛的一面，如果有的话绝对值得一提（represent your healthy, energetic side are worth mentioning）；再如你喜欢没事儿的时候玩玩数独（sudoku）、看看推理题（inferential question）,这些都有助于展现你在逻辑思维方面的优势（showcase your logical-thinking advantages）；再如你若喜欢高尔夫（golf）、网球（tennis）、品茶（tea drinking）或是个美食爱好者（gourmet food），那么HR会了解到，在将来需要招待客户的工作中，你将有巨大价值。除此之外，积极参与志愿者活动（volunteering）将会是巨大的加分项，这能够清楚地向面试官展示你与他人相处、喜欢并擅长与人打交道的一面（will help show your comfort with engaging others），这种优势无论在何种工作中都是非常有用的。

Step 2、把“个性优势”转化为“专业优势”（transition to Professional from Personal）

简短地谈过个人兴趣优势后（After sharing a few interesting personal aspects of your background），我们便要开始向我们的求职目标（hunting target）靠近了，此时你要做的是将之前所传达出的“个性优势”向工作所需要的“专业优势”有效过渡（transition to Professional from Personal），这时你便可以大方地讲讲自己的专业素养与职位要求的契合了，

注意抓住重点，要分享一些你核心的个人技能（sharing some key professional skills ），这样才能为自己增值，最终拿到职位（add value and get your target job）。在此推荐大家一个好用的句式，让你自然地过渡到有针对性的回答上去：“除了兴趣和激情之外，我的职业生涯是我的一个重要组成部分，所以我想谈谈我给这份工作带来的一些优势”（In addition to those interests and passions, my professional life is a huge part of who I am, so I'd like to talk a bit about some of the strengths which I would bring to this job）。

Step 3、分享你的专业知识（Share Your Expertise）

尽可能简短地向面试官展示你的专业素养，这是使得你在面试中得以脱颖而出的关键（help you to excel in the job for which you are interviewing）。你要对自己的竞争力有着全面的把握，在面试前可以罗列出来（Make a list of your strengths before you go into the interview,），这样以助于你清楚地知道自己要分享什么。关注职位描述，并把它与你的技能匹配（look at the job description and match it with your skills），这样才能让自己成为“不二人选”（make you an ideal candidate for the job.）

值得注意的一点：避免提及争议性、私人性话题
