阅读七选五专练(一) 授课提示:对应学生用书109页 Test 1 [2019·郑州第二次质量预测]Word travels quickly in the small fishing village of Port Washington, Wisconsin. So when Mardy McGarry wanted to build a playground for kids with special needs, she knew it wouldn't take long to create interest in the project. But she never expected that a third of the town people would join in it. __1__. “A lot of learning comes through play,”says McGarry, a special education teacher for 28 years. She'd seen the wood chips and sand of traditional playgrounds stop wheelchairs dead in their tracks. When a piece of land became available, the city council agreed to choose a part for a playground. __2__ She asked many kids for their wish list. She also asked experts for help. And she brought on board her friend Sue Mayer, whose eight-year-old son, Sam, has a serious disease. Her Kiwanis Club chapter came through with $7,000, and that's when the grassroots movement really got started. One woman gave $25,000 and had her company donate the same amount. __3__ There were silent auctions (拍卖) and T-shirt sales. The local Pieper Family Foundation offered to donate half of the remaining $170,000 balance if McGarry could raise the rest. The $450,000 covered materials, but the actual construction would cost an additional $900,000. Not a choice. But the community could build it. On September 16, 2008, the first day of construction, they came. Two women heard about the project on the radio on the way to work and took the day off to help. __4__ Ten-year-olds sanded surfaces. Today, Possibility Playground is one of the most popular destinations in Ozaukee County, There's a giant pirate ship, a sandbox, monkey bars, swings and so on. __5__ It's exactly what McGarry wanted. People used to ask why she wanted to build a playground just for children with disabilities. “They didn't get it. It's only when you build a playground for children with disabilities that you build one for all children.” she said. A.Soon smaller businesses were helping.

The weather’s nice, and the youngsters are out of time. Here are a few tips to help you along the way: Nature is all around us. 37 For small kids, there’s likely plenty in the backyard, courtyard, or schoolyard. National parks are great, but kids foster a deep connection with nature close to home! 38 Don’t worry too much about what to do once you arrive at your nature-rich destination. What kids really need is free time to engage all their senses and use their imaginations. You can learn too. What counts is simply to get out there, show that you value the outdoors, and be ready to have fun. 39 In fact, it is not necessary for you to know anything at all about science or nature. And remember, questions are more powerful than answers anyway! Sit back and watch your kids learn. Don’t be too much of a helicopter parent, always saying “no”. Instead, try to spare more time to stay with your kids when necessary.

Everything about the school seemed so difficult. When I got home, my parents said, “You’re nervous and that’s okay. 2017年高考英语阅读专练(七选五) 1. Brain Transplants Research on the human brain has been attracting more and more scientists in recent years. 1 If we compare a human brain to a hard disc, what the scientists are doing is to make better use of the hard disc. The idea that a human brain could be transplanted may come from Frankenstein. In 1999, an experiment turned a bear into a dolphin. 2 They were made of the memory area in the dolphin’s brain containing information about swimming. They had a series of useful information, which was saved into a button-sized chip (芯片). Later the information was transplanted into the action memory area in the bear’s brain. 3 It proved to be a highly successful experiment and a bear was turned into a dolphin. Recently, another memory transplant was performed at the Motor Nerve Research Institute of the University of California. The experiment had an entire transplant of the memory area. 4 The transplant was performed from a dog named Genius to a dog named Idiot. Genius could follow up to 100 gestures and orders made by its master. It was a real genius in memorizing. However, Idiot had no contact with people since its birth. It became an animal with nothing in its brain, without any memory. 5 When the two dogs woke up, Idiot had grasped all the abilities Genius possessed; it was good at memorizing and sensible. It could follow every gesture and any command given by its master. But Genius gave no response to its master, and did not recognize him at all. A. The experiment was a complete success. B. It included actions, moods, logic, words, images, etc. C. Then it was released by means of electric power. D. Different images have different meanings in the memory area. E. Using the most advanced technology, detailed images were produced. F. Discoveries show that messages are carried by the central nervous system in the brain. G. One of the latest topics is how to change the human brain or combine it with the computer. 2. W. Lloyd Jerome’s Dental Surgery If you walk into W.Lloyd Jerome’s dental surgery in Glasgow,

Stop and think about it for a second. Why should we sleep? 37 .But we sleep every night even when we have had plenty of rest. There are, no doubt, several different answers to this question but let's just consider one general purpose of sleep: 38 . Human beings are creatures that are normally active during daylight hours when our senses functions most effectively. 39 .We can't see objects well, our color vision is entirely lost, and we don't have the smelling or hearing sharpness of other animals. So it actually does make sense to have us stay where we are during the dangerous period when night-waking animals are walking here and there. And one sure way to make sure we don't fall down everywhere and get lost or eaten is to have us not move for seven or eight hours rising again only when the light is back and our survival chances are better. It's not the only reason we sleep. 40 . Perhaps even the most important one. A. At night, humans do rather poorly. B. But from a scientific point of view this is far from an ordinary matter. C. Should that put human beings in a terrible situation? D. Sleep as a survival approach. E. Furthermore, if you were designing an animal would you have it come into long periods of unconsciousness every twenty-four hours? F. But in terms of evolution it may have been one of the first reasons. G. Is it because we get tired?
