B. In each subject, who do you think do better, boys or girls? (art, language, music, geography, chemistry, history, P.E. , math)

D. Would the ideal wife and the ideal husband have been different in your parents’generation and in your grandparents’generation? If so, how?

----Yes. In my grandparents’ generation, people, especially women, didn’t have to be educated so long as they had someone to support them or could earn a living. Of course, a woman would have liked to marry a rich man, but at that time, money was not considered to be so important. In my parents’ generation, knowledge and money were less important. The ideal husband and the ideal wife would both be workers.

Part IV Further Development

1. interpreting the poem:

Men work in the field, while women stay at home;

Men are trained for the war to fight, while women care for the family

Men are controlled by intellect, while women are sensitive and affectionate,

Men give orders while women obey orders

If the roles of men and women are not in the way, the world would be confusion

1)Tennyson thought that men should be in the dominating place in the society, while women

should be in the passive and obedient place who can only stay at home to obey men’s order.

2)Do. I don’t agree with him. The status of men and women should be equal. They should be

treated equally in the daily business. His description is out of date.

A woman should not think that only because she is woman, she should be given special rights by men or she accepts bias and sexual discrimination. What she should do is to compete in the society as equally as a man.

This is at least partly due to what is known as language interference, meaning that the linguistic patterns of our first language interfere with those of the second because no two languages have exactly the same sounds and grammatical structures. The English language has a very large vocabulary because it has incorporated words from many other languages over the centuries. This is nowhere more apparent than in its color words. For example, there are many words that express the color “purple”, describing its different shades and hues: mauve, violet, lilac, or lavender. An interesting linguistic gender difference among native speakers of English is the likelihood of women using these color terms to differentiate between shades of purple, whereas, men will be satisfied with the one word “purple”. This is true of other color words too.
