In my view, credit cards are not necessities for college students. Some people are alarmed at the trend. As investing in the stock market involves many risks, they say, college students are very likely to lose, which may put students’ family assets at risk. However, some are supportive. As more and more students become shareholders, they will help raise the general quality of shareholders and there will be more rational stock buyers in securities market, which is actually a good thing.

In my view, college students may give stock investment a try if possible. Stock investment may be a way to make fast money and help finance students’schooling. Even if the students are likely to lose in the stock market, it may still lead to valuable investment experience---- they can’t learn if they don’t try.

Some law experts’drafting an animal protection act sparks hot debate across the nation. Some applaud it. Others, on the contrary, frown on it. They insist that animal rights protection should be based on a high level of economic development. The Chinese have just solved the problem of food and clothing, and many social security challenges remain striking, including employment, housing and health care. It seems unrealistic to protect animal welfare and rights right now.

In my opinion, opponents tend to connect animal welfare with the level of

economic development, but there is nothing in the proposed law that demands money from the poor to support animals. Neither does the law ask the government to spend money on animals that was originally intended for people. Indeed, when animals’ owners are asked to take some more responsibility, it will actually save the government money.

Shopping centers have entered our everyday language and life. Recently, a large shopping center was proposed to be built in our neighborhood. However, residents’ opinions vary on whether it should be built at all.

Some strongly oppose the proposal. If a shopping mall were built, they say, it would attract thousands of people from somewhere else and consequently, a lot of noise and trash as well. By contrast, to others, a shopping center would mean more choices because there would be more stores selling different products. Having a shopping center built in the neighborhood would also mean more convenience and more jobs for the community.

If it were up to me to decide whether or not to build the shopping center close to home, I would approve it. I believe its advantages far outweigh the disadvantages. Besides, if we handle the center well, the potential problems will be avoidable and the community will benefit greatly from it.

There are generally two ways in which we can have access to books; borrowing or buying. Some people say that it’s better to borrow books. The reason is that if you borrow a book, you will force yourself to read it. But if you buy a book, you may think it is yours and that you don’t have to finish it quickly, and finally you may forget it.

However, some people argue that buying books is surely better because one can make notes on the book he’s bought, and when he wants to use the book again, he doesn’t have to bother borrowing it again. Under some circumstances, he can’t borrow the book since others might have already done so.

As for me, whether to borrow or to buy, it depends. If I need to read only part of the book, I’ll borrow the book. For reference books like dictionaries, I prefer to buy them.

There is a heated debate as to whether high grades indicate strong ability. Some people think that grades can reflect students’ability in their academic pursuit. The higher their grades are, the stronger their abilities must be.

While some regard higher grades and strong ability as unified, there are some people who argue that high grades don’t necessarily mean superior ability. On one hand, it is common that the so-called excellent students are sometimes very poor at solving practical problems. On the other hand, it is not rare that the so-called weak students show their intelligence in a certain field.

In my view, high grades may indicate that a student has acquired abundant knowledge, to some extent. But grades are no barometer of his or her ability. So we should not judge a student merely by his or her grades.

Precious time won’t be wasted waiting in line to order or waiting at your table for your food to arrive. Otherwise, it can’t keep up with the development of society and will lag behind. On the contrary, some people are against this trend. They think that the function of education is just to educate young people, help them gain knowledge and grow in the right way. If education becomes materialized, it might be misleading.

In my opinion, education should keep its original principle, that is, to educate people. Too much commercialization in education can be harmful to the individuals and the society in the long run.

An employee might buy his boss a Rolex watch in order to have a promotion in the company.

Both sending and receiving gifts are costly. When you receive gifts, it costs you money too, since you will have to send a gift back to the sender. Others, however, are not as enthusiastic. As far as I am concerned, I’ll support it if the course were selective for the students. Peking Opera is a charming art that carries forward traditional Chinese culture and morals.
