This must be good news for running lovers. Ordinary (普通的) runners may also take part in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The Chinese Athletics Association (CAA) said this on March 15. Two ordinary runners – one man and one woman – may take part in the marathon (马拉松), reported China Daily.

Ordinary runners are not like professional (专业的) ones. They are not from professional sport teams, Du Zhaocai of the CAA told China Daily. A marathon is 42.195 km long. To run in the Olympics, the man needs to finish it within 2 hours 19 minutes and the woman within 2 hours 45 minutes. That’s almost as fast as professional runners.

“This plan may encourage (激励) more ordinary people to play sports,” Du told Sohu news. But it’s not the only chance for ordinary people to join in high-level games.

China’s 13th National Games will take plac e from Aug 27 to Sept 8. About 7,000 ordinary people will take part in it. There are 126 games for them, such as badminton and table tennis, reported Xinhua. TEENS

Flower-Worshipping Festival (花朝节) is the birthday of flowers and the goddesses (女神) of flowers. It started in the Tang Dynasty (AD 618-907). People celebrate it in the second lunar (农历的) month. The dates are different in different places across China. But it is usually in March or April.

There are 12 goddesses of flowers. Each is in charge of a month of the year. On the day of the festival, people often offer incense (焚香) and spirit (烈酒) to the flower goddesses. They wish for good weather and a harvest for the year.

People usually have fun outdoors for Flower-Worshiping Festival. Families go to the countryside and have a picnic near flowers. Some may also plant some flowers.
