Living Alone or Living with Roommates?

Living Alone or Living with Roommates?

It is often difficult for a student to decide whether he shall have roommates or not. However, in my opinion, the advantages of having roommates outweigh its disadvantages.

Those who don’t like having roommates argue that several people living together cause s some unpleasantness because every person has his or her own way. On the contrary, no better chance could be found here to learn how to adjust the subtle relationships in solving trivial problems will, in the long run, enrich our social experience and help us understand others and learn to be considerate.

Moreover, the incomparable advantage is that living together offers an excellent chance of cooperation. For example, planning a party single-handedly may be a boring and difficult job. However, nothing could be so enjoyable and easy without our roommates’ help. Combining every member’s wit and talent together, we may do anything perfectly.

I regard rooming together as a precious opportunity for it is the best way of learning cooperation and understanding. Such experience will be helpful in one’s later life.

My View on University Marriage

A 50-year ban that prevented university students getting married has been lifted, which has aroused people’s concern. Some think university marriage is reasonable while others insist that college students should not get married.

Those in fovor of university marriage argue that college students are adults and should be given the right to get married. They also add that marriage is based on love rather than on the materialistic goods you can offer somebody. If you love somebody, it does not matter if you are in university or not.

Those against university marriage hold that university marriage brings students various problems. First of all, they think universities are where students pursue knowledge, but early marriage will distract their attention and energy from study. Secondly, college students are not financially prepared for marriage and marriage without solid financial support will become a burden to the student couples. Thirdly, since marriage should be based on a more stable basis, university marriage will be fragile due to the lack of stability.

As for me, I don’t regard university marriage as worth advocating, because in my opinion, college students are not mature enough for marriage. What’s more, time on campus is precious and essential for study. In a word, university marriage brings students little good.

Aid Education in China

1. 每年,高校许多大学生受到鼓舞去贫困地区支教;

2. 支教活动的意思;

Aid Education in China

Each year, college students, encouraged to aid students in the poverty-stricken areas, volunteer themselves in poor villages for a year and try to improve education in poor areas.

Aid-education has been beneficial in two aspects. On the one hand, college volunteers are really devoted to the cause. They have opened the eyes of students in underdeveloped regions to the outside world by bringing them new knowledge and thoughts. As a result, they are extremely well-received by the children there. On the other hand, college students have received a rigorous training by adapting to the harsh living conditions. They are also enjoying the appreciation and no-distance friendship from the children. What’s more, they are greatly inspired by the moving and tireless spirit of the children.

In my opinion, China’s educational development can’t be isolated from each individual and we college students should take the lead in response to the appeal for offering aid to children in poor areas.

Book Knowledge or Practical Experience?

1. 有人认为书本知识举足轻重;

2. 有人认为实践经验更为重要;

3. 我的观点。

Book Knowledge or Practical Experience?

Which is more important in life, knowledge from the books you read, or personal experience you gain in reality? The answer may vary from person to person. But in my opinion, they are of the same importance.

Experience is priceless for it helps one deal with the problems with ease and confidence. Experience, however, is limited in terms of time and space. For one thing, it is impossible for anyone to experience all the important events. For another, as the speed with which skills are obsolete and new problems crop up is unprecedented because of the fast development of society, experience is far less adequate.

One way to compensate for it is to read books. Books of various kinds can bring us almost unlimited additional experience. To be sure, it’s secondhand experience. But it is the ideal supplement to our own limited experience. Few of us can travel around the world, or live long beyond one hundred years, but all of us can live many lives by reading books.

Both book knowledge and personal experience are essential. While experience makes one more resourceful, book knowledge makes one more learned.

A Good Major or Good University

Every sudent will be faced with the same question when he passes the College Entrance Examination: Should he choose a good major or a good university? Answers differ as for different groups of people.

Some students give priority to a good major. What they cherish is a specialty they like most. In their mind, whether the university is famous is not very important-so long as they work hard, they can achieve a lot in any university, and a bright future is awaiting them.

Other students pay more attention to the university.They attach great importance to the university, because the environment of the university to the making of an excellent person is fertile soil to the growth of a plant. How can you have a wide vision and a broad horizon if you receive education in an unknown college where there is less exchange of information?

In a word, the best choice is a good major in a good university, but without great efforts we can hardly get such a choice. If we cannot obtain both, in my opinion, the first thing to consider is a good major.

Reading Makes a Full Man

Reading Makes a Full Man

“Reading makes a full man”. It is a saying that reveals how important and beneficial reading could be and encourages people to do more good reading.

For one thing, books can provide people with knowledge and make them fully-educated and well-informed in various ways. For example, reading professional books can prepare people for better fulfillment of their jobs. For another, people can lead various lives through pages of books, which otherwise can never be realized in a man’s limited life span. So reading can enrich people’s life experience and broaden their vision. Still another, reading does good to our mind. Good books are always ready to show us the truth, beauty and goodness in life and give us delight, satisfaction and encouragement.

Indeed, the significance of reading can never be overvalued. However, it must be realized that people should be cautious when deciding which books to read since reading bad books are time-wasting and harmful. Read more good books in your limited life, and reading will make you a full man.

An Eye-Witness Account of a Fire Disaster

假设你在某日某时某学生寝室目击一起火灾,就此写一篇见证书。见证书需包括以下几点:

1. 火灾发生的时间和地点;

2. 你所见到的火灾发生情况;

3. 你对这场寝室火灾发生原因的分析。

An Eye-Witness Account of a Fire Disaster At about 11 o ’clock in the evening , a sudden flash of light awakened me. The whole dormitory was lightened by a fire.

The power was cut for some reason, but one of my roommates still had some experiment reports to write. He lit the candle

at nine and sat right beside the window. Just when all other roommates fell asleep, the fire broke out. Unfortunately the flame of the candle lit up the curtains and with the wind it quickly spread to the left side of the room. The mosquito-net of the bed on the side burned immediately, and the student on the bed screeched and jumped down from inside. Soon the fire spread to the left corner where there were shelves of books and wardrobes. All of us got up simultaneously. Some rushed out for water and the fire extinguisher, with others trying to prevent the fire from spreading to the right. Luckily the fire had been put out with joint efforts. No one was injured; but the fire disaster left some beds and beddings damaged and the roommates scared.

The student who lit the candle was fully responsible for the fire disaster. First and foremost , he has no safety consciousness; lighting candles is forbidden in the university dorm. Second, he was so careless that he never noticed that the curtain fell down on the flame. Finally , while the fire was on, he was standing near the bookshelf and didn ’t put out the fire in time.

Youngsters ’ Use of the Internet

The bar charts above display that an increasing number of young people tend to surf the Internet more and more frequently in Beijing. In 1995, only 500,000 youngsters had access to the Internet spending about half an hour, whereas in 1999 about 4,000,000 young students spent almost seven times longer time online. It is no wonder that the Internet is shaping youngster ’s life. The Internet provides an abundant source of information and facilitates young people ’s communication with their familiar or unfamiliar friends. However , as students, they should not indulge themselves in the illusive world or even playing online games for a rather long time. They should cautiously guard against the unhealthy contents available online. Personally , I also prefer utilizing the Internet properly for the following reasons. First and foremost, it is accessible for me to get the latest information of software, which is my favorite subject. Equally important , thanks to the Internet, I make many foreign friends and make a great progress in English through constant communication with them.

College Students ’ Booklist

The table shows the changes of students ’ choices of various kinds of books from 1985 to 2005. Obviously enough, the number of novels and books of philosophy and society has declined gradually, with that of foreign languages books and computer science ones enjoying much more popularity.

Though different readers have their own particular tastes, this phenomenon involves several complicated factors. Firstly, nowadays, most of the college students tend to buy more books concerning foreign languages learning and computer science, mainly because there

is a pressing need of foreign languages and computer skills for their future employment. Secondly , novels are still popular though the selling number decreased thanks to the availability of the Internet. Most of popular books could be read online.

I always buy books of computer science, firstly because it is my major. Secondly, it is well known that computer science often witnesses the fastest changes, thus in order to keep up with the pace, I have to constantly arm myself with new information.

Driving Private Cars to Work

The two pie charts above illustrate that an increasing number of people in the big city have chosen driving to work in the past two decades. Between 1981 and 2001, the proportion of people riding bicycles or resorting to public transportation declined respectively by 18% and 10%, with people driving motorcycles and private cars growing by 16% and 12%.

There are two main components accounting for the rising percentage of private-car drivers. Nowadays, it’s common for people to travel a long distance to work in big cities or even across cities. Private cars will undoubtedly become the first choice when speed and convenience are considered. What’s more, with rising average income and the advent of some types of economic cars, people can afford private cars, which used to be luxuries for almost all Chinese.

Some people are pessimistically believe that the growing numbers of cars on the road will lead to some negative effects. On one hand, it will worsen the traffic condition in metropolitan cities. On the other hand, it will also pose great threat to the environment.

At no point is it clearer that this activity has endowed our vapid life with the flavor of high-tech and fun, especially giving traditions typical of festive periods, such as the Chinese New Year and Chinese Valentine’s Day, a facelift. However, some people may be trapped in a situation where they put the cart before the horse. Disappointedly, what some people do on festivals is not to communicate with their relatives and friends but to hold their cell phones and fix their eyes on the screen all day long, just in order to grab red envelops. For my part, what really matters is the relationship instead of the money. Essentially speaking, gifting red envelopes is beyond reproach. Only in a rational way shall we not be reduced to slaves of materialism or hijacked by the high technology. Festivals offer precious opportunities for us to send good wishes to our beloved ones and what we should do is to cherish these chances rather than to ignore the essential connotation of the festivals. You should write at least 120 words following the outline given below. 1.对网上不文明语言的禁令引起热议 2.有人认为禁令有效,也有人认为禁令无意义 3.我的观点 Is the Ban on Abusive Language Online Helpful? Recently, the topic whether the ban on abusive language on the Internet is helpful or not has aroused great attention and debate. Some people believe it helpful while others doubt its effectiveness. Those in favor of this move state that imposing the ban on online abuse is a counterattack against the deterioration of the communication method on the Internet. More significantly, it’s no doubt that the ban gives positive guidance to either netizens or the public and helps encourage higher morality. However, other people oppose that the ban, as a matter of fact, is unnecessary and difficult to practice, for the users can well disguise their true identity. Furthermore, morality should be something rooted in an individual’s heart so to underline the ban will do nothing to encourage people to be more polite. Personally speaking, I agree with the former opinion. Abusive language online, in most cases illogical, is a desperate insult to suppress others’ ideas. Thus, ban concerning this issue can offer helpful instructions to the netizens. In addition, it also contributes to promoting the moral standards of the whole society.

Take a look around. We operate on pirated Windows systems, defend PC security with pirated Kaspersky anti-virus programmes, process files with pirated Microsoft Office, draft 3D designs with pirated AutoCAD, refine pictures with pirated Adobe Photoshop, and study English with pirated Kingsoft’s electronic dictionaries and translators. It’s no exaggeration that pirated software is everywhere. The logic behind the phenomenon is simple and clear: if a pirated copy is available for just a tiny fraction of the normal price, not to speak of many of the free downloads online, who would pay for an authentic copy? Cheaper prices aside, easy access is another important factor. With such a large gathering of pirated upgrades around, who would bother to spend time and money searching the stores for an authorized yet outdated version? Despite these apparent benefits, the practice of software piracy should be banned, because it represents unfair competition and by nature it’s a no-win situation. But how? Two approaches are to be taken at the same time: Technically, software developers should enhance their antipiracy engineering, so that cracking the software should be virtually impossible. And legally, the government should also tighten its antipiracy laws and toughen up the penalties, so that violations should be costly. ◇语言点提示: tighten its antipiracy laws and toughen up the penalties加强反盗版立法和盗版惩罚

大学英语四级作文范文10篇 The Advantages and Disadvantages of Living in the 21st century(生活在21世纪的优缺点) Living in the 21st century offers certain advantages,such as a higher standard of living, but it also has some disadvantages, such as a polluted environment. To begin with, most people now have more money for less hard work. They earn higher salaries than before and enjoy better social security, such as social welfare for laid-off workers and disability insurance. Secondly, because of the advance in medical technology which leads to better medical care and treatment, people’s life expectancy is longer. Moreover, most people now can afford to buy foods of high nutrition and enjoy their leisure time. Thirdly, modern conveniences such as radio, TV, internet, various vehicles and labour-saving machines in the home, all greatly facilitate human communication, transportation and housework as well. Nevertheless, living in the 21st century also has its disadvantages. The most serious one is the increasingly polluted environment; air is filled with smog and water is contaminated by iehemicals from factories.Another main disadvantage is the personalization of human relattonships which mostly result from people’s ever-increasing contact with machines and numbers. Still one more disadvantage is the weakening of spiritual values. An undeniable fact is that a large number of people are solely interested in materialistic culture,while neglecting spiritual civilization. Limited by space, we have to skip the examples. In conclusion, although the 21st century has indeed given us a lot of advantages, it may not have made us wiser, because it has also made our earth dirtier, our people less humane, and our spirituali iife poorer, We shpuld continue to enjoy the benefits of technological advancement,however, we must make a concerted effort to preserve our natural environment for future generations. Moreover, we should take the time now to make our lives more meaningful in anihcreasingly impersonal, computerized world. 全国大学英语四级考前作文预测 二 On responsibility .(关于个人责任) We Chinese place a high value on responsibility. First and foremost, compared with graduate education, our knowledge will be limited and our horizons will be narrowed if we choose to take a position after graduation due to the fact that possessing a bachelor’s degree is to maintain one’s competitiveness. People's opinions about this issue vary from person to person. I consider that living in a big city tends to pose a considerable number of threats to our future. First and foremost, since the phenomenon of left-behind children has arisen as one of the most fearful social situations, parents are likely to have less family time with their children, which is detrimental to fostering harmonious families. In addition, busy city life is also negative for our mental health. The fierce competition that exists everywhere in big cities is destructive to our relationship with our colleagues, neighbors, and even friends, resulting in our isolation and loneliness. In some universities students’ rating has even become the only source of information on teaching effectiveness.. This, however, has caused great controversy. Some are in favor of the rating system, They hold that since students attend t he teachers’ classes every day, they should have their opinion about their teachers’ effectiveness. Others, on the contrary, are strongly against it. They believe that there is much more to teaching than what is shown on students’ rating forms. Students sh ould not be expected to judge whether the materials they use are up to date or how well the teacher knows about the subject. These judgments require professional knowledge, which is best left for the teachers’ colleagues. I think students’ rating of their teachers is necessary, but it should be conducted in a way that can really shed meaningful light on teachers’ performance. Instead of rating the teachers’ knowledge on the subject, students should be asked to estimate what they have learned in a course, an d to report on such things as a teacher’s ability to communicate with students, his or her relationship with students, and his or her ability to arouse students’ interest in the subject. 点评:越来越多的高校采取让学生给老师打分的形式来了解教学反馈,并以此作为促进教学质量的有效手段。对此做法,管理部门及教学双方褒贬不一,看法迥异。本范例题为校园生活热议话题,值得关注。
