Analysis of College English Teaching

Abstract: There has been much debate on the topic of College English teaching in China. With the development in college English teaching, high standard teaching is essential.I state a lot of problems that exist in the university. I also put forward some suggestions learned from the two theories to improve the college language teaching quality and make students achieve the balance of language competence.

1.An Analysis of College English Teaching in china

Unbalanced development exists in our college English teaching. Students entered colleges with greatly different English basic skills, even students of different colleges or same grades of same colleges have enormously different expectations of English. Especially after enlarging the recruitment scale of ordinary university, some students with poor English basic skills poured into colleges. Some stude nts don’t have a system of language knowledge; even some are still very poor in grammar and pronunciation. Though colleges and teachers have spent a lot time on English teaching, the actual results are not effective. Students’ language skills can’t fit the actual needs of social development. College English teaching is to set up a harmonious and high effective teaching atmosphere in the English class to make students take part in the practice. Thus we can cultivate their abilities, which are the final teaching aim—developing the students’ English intercommunicative ability.

2.Strategies to College English Teaching

a,Teacher Should Make Better Ways

In English teaching and learning process, sometimes the materials offered by textbooks are not sufficient enough. It is necessary to supplement the text with other materials, which is relevant with the text students are supposed to learn. And also, the teacher can use some tactics to facilitate language learning and make it more effective. Making full use of limited class time is very important. At the same time, if the teacher incorporate useful characteristics into a communicative lesson pattern, it will be better. To improve language teaching, teachers must make the speech and explanation in class systematical. The teacher must make the aim of the teaching material clear.

b, To Make the Group Work Relevant

Students must perceive the group tasks as integral to the course objectives, not just busy work. Some teachers believe that group work is most successful if it involved the work with making
