Outline
To write an outline of an article. You must first of all identify the main ideas in the paragraphs and then express them by using noun phrases (topic outline) or simple sentences(sentence outline). Topic outline is one that uses incomplete sentences, e.g. nouns, noun phrases, etc. while sentence outline uses complete sentences. Summary
Summarizing means writing a short version of an article. To write a summary you skim the article so as to have a general idea of the material, underline the main points, make a list of all the points to be used and then with this list write the summary in an Introduction-Body-Conclusion structure, with the transition words like “but’’, “and’’,“however’’ ,“also”’etc.
Abstract
An Abstract is a greatly condensed version of a writing. An abstract is different from a summary in that it is much shorter than a summary and so is called “summary of a summary’’. An abstract only lists the topics without supplying detailed information. Be sure to include the following items if there are any.
1)The problems/processes/phenomena/mechanism involved or described;
2)The scope of work;
3)The significant findings or results;
4)Majors conclusions/recommendations.
