Building world-class universities in China
I think there is no doubt that China should establish world-class universities. Firstly, viewed from the developing strategy, as the biggest developing country in the world, which plays a significant role globally, China has become more and more appealing to the younger generation from all around the world. China needs more competent
people to develop so universities, one of the most indispensable parts in developing a nation, cannot be ignored. Secondly, judging from the trend in the world, education reform has been put in a high place, we should keep pace with the time. Only by establishing world-class universities can we create more favorable factors for future development. Not only can we provide more high-standard educational opportunities for our students, but we can create a higher platform in the world competition. At the present, the first obstacle in the way is that we lack educational resources, and we don't have an advanced enough education system. So the reforms should be promoted as soon as possible. All walks of life should found a strong union to decrease the resistance force.
Education is by no means an elite's privilege. A rich country such as China has to invest in the education of its grassroots instead of pushing for world-class universities. The developed world has a lot of education on offer. In Germany, for example, there are Volkshochschulen, i.e. people's colleges, where anyone can enroll to study anything. At present, such Volkshochschulen teach German to thousands of refugees. Aside of that, they teach cooking, philosophy for beginners, auto mechanics for the housewife with her own fleet of cars, and foreign languages

Li made the remarks while meeting with Microsoft founder Bill Gates,
who is chairman of TerraPower, a nuclear energy technology compan
y based in Bellevue, Washington.
Li said the Chinese government encourages combining domestic indu strial capacity andadvanced technologies and design from the US. Sa fety, low cost and sustainability are the keysto such an effort, he adde d.
"China is taking on a greener, more sustainable path, during which w e welcome cooperation onclean energy development and to fight agai nst climate change," Li said.
Gates is in Beijing to promote the design of a traveling wave reactor, a new nuclear design usingfourth-generation technology.
Terra Power, founded in 2006, is working closely with China National Nuclear Corp to conductresearch into the use of the new technology. "Energy is a key part of our modern lifestyle," Gates said. China aims to have 58 gigawatts ofnuclear power in operation, and at least 30G W under construction, by 2020.

The economist, however, is unhappy about the Obama
administration's lack of accommodation for a rising China.
Just back from a trip to China, Summers, former US president Bill
Clinton's treasury secretary, believes China is likely to account for
between one-third and one-half of growth in global incomes, trade and commodity demand. In an article published in the Financial Times on Monday, he claimed that its significance will only increase as its share of the world economy rises.
Summers expressed concern over a lack of clarity about whether the objective of the US and the rest of the global community is to see China succeed economically as a support for global prosperity or the objective is to contain and weaken China economically.
He was upset over the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement which the Obama administration promotes as a way to reduce China's influence in determining global trade rules. To Summers, if China is not part of the TPP and the US not part of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank things don't look auspicious. He believes that
China's economic reform agenda will benefit not only China, but the whole world in the long term despite some short and medium-term pain from slower growth.
Summers once said that it's impossible in today's world for only one of the two countries, China and the US, to do well and the others not to do well.
