PE classes usually mean running, jumping and playing ball games. But students at Aspire Middle School in Lacey, Washington spend their PE classes doing yoga.

"PE has been either dance or yoga since we started," said the headmaster Monica Sweet. "They're both very popular classes."

Teacher Anne Kohlbry developed the yoga program and began teaching it when the school opened in 2009. Each class lasts about 50 minutes. It includes some warm-up activities such as walking laps(跑道的圈) around the school, controlled breathing, stretches (伸展) and a few minutes of relaxation.

Kohlbry usually plays classical music while students stretch on yoga mats. They practice several classic poses. For example, to do the mountain pose, students stand tall with feet together. They take a deep breath and raise their hands over their head. Their palms（手掌）face each other with arms straight. Then they try to reach up toward the sky with their fingertips.

When doing yoga, students need to be calm and find the balance of their bodies. It helps them focus, according to Kohlbry.

"Focus is a big thing-middle school kids are so distracted（分心的），” she told the local newspaper The Olympian.

Y oga also makes students healthier.

"I've had a lot of kids saying, 'Madam, I've developed a six-pack muscle(肌肉)' because we do a lot of strength training," she said.

Eighth-grader Jessica Wallingford, 14, likes the class. "In the two years that I've been here, there are a lot of things I've improved on. It's pretty cool. It's better than running laps," she said.

"It feels like exercise," said Thomas Shiveley, 11. "It's not tiring, but it's good exercise."

Smoking in indoor public places including public working places，public transport vehicles and some other special outdoor working places has been banned(禁止)in China since January 2011.Let's look at the following advantages of banning smoking.

First，banning smoking will not only help in saving smokers from health problems and diseases，but will also be good for passive smokers. When the smoker is smoking in a restaurant，the people around him are sure to breathe in the smoke and suffer from the diseases an active smoker gets. If smoking is banned，spread of these diseases can be controlled.

Next，banning smoking will put stress on smokers to give up. Since a smoker is prevented from smoking，he will learn how to live without smoking for long hours. When a smoker doesn't smell or see anybody around him smoking，it might reduce his wish to smoke too. As a result，people have to give up smoking.

Smoking in public places influences non-smokers to start smoking，especially adolescents．When teens see people around them smoking，they will follow them easily. Thus the number of teen smokers will increase. Also asthma(哮喘)and other problems are often seen in children living around smokers. So if it is banned，these places will become safe for children and teenagers.

Looking from the economic point of view，smoking should be banned to increase work productivity. Employees(雇员)who smoke usually take breaks to smoke while working. So the number of hours they put in their work is smaller.

Many say their most painful moments are saying goodbye to those they love. After watching Cheryl, my daughter-in-law (儿媳) ,through the six long months her mother suffered towards death, I think the most painful moments can be in the waiting to say goodbye.

The topic of my speech today is “Learn to express thanks”. Nowdays some students want to eat well and wear fashionable clothes at school. They think they must be comfortable, but they don’t show any sense of "Thanks”.

I don’t think it is right. We are lucky in everything. We can have a chance to receive good education because of society, And It’s our parents who support us and love us very much. Besides, it is our teachers who teach us much knowledge. Our friends share joy with us and give us courage to overcome many difficulties.
