Around the World in 80 Days

After reading Around the World in 80 Days

I finished reading the book Around the World in 80 Days in the summer vacation, which is really inspiring. I will write something about the author, the content of the book and my own feelings one by one in the following.

The author of the book is Jules Verne, whose father is a successful lawyer. His father wholeheartedly hoped that the son inherited his father's cause. But Jules Verne loved longing voyage adventure since childhood. At the age of 11, when he was on board when the volunteer interns and the voyage India, the results are found to take back the family home. Jules Verne took a beat and lay on his bed with tears ensuring that: "In the future, promising to only lying in bed in the fantasy of travel." Perhaps because of the childhood experience, and objectively to Jules Verne gallop in the fantasy life, to create so many well-known science fictions. When he was 18, he told compliance father, went to Paris to study law, but he was no interested in the law at all, and fell in love with literature and drama. After graduation, he focused on more input poetry and drama of creation; this not only severely reprimanded by her father, and lost his father's financial support. Jules V erne’s works are not only a lively sense of humor, but also inspire people, especially young people, to love science, yearning for adventure enthusiasm. In more

than 100 years, it has been welcomed by readers around the world. UNESCO data shows that Jules Verne is the world's most translated works of 10 masters. Jules Verne is a very good popular fiction writer, there is a hallucination can become their own ability to touch, feel is an all-round, from the bland literature conveys a human enthusiasm. Jules Verne's works are filled with knowledge, but he himself is a mystery of the universe, there is a mystery to the world of worship. In general, Jules Verne is great. As in 1884 the Pope met Jules Verne once said: "I do not know that you are not the scientific value of the works, but I treasure the most is their purity, moral values and spiritual strength."

The book tells a story of a kind-hearted, brave and confident man, Phileas Fogg, who took on a bet with members of his gentlemen's club that he could make it around the world in a mere 80 days, using a variety of means of transportation, like boats, trains, balloons, elephants, etc. And he finally made it.

Mr. Fogg is a 40-year-old man, wearing gold-brown hair and beard. He is white, good-looking and a little fat. He has no wife, no child, or even relatives. He lives alone and no one has ever been seen to visit him. He has never been seen to be thrilled or scared, and he has never been late. He is a reliable and confident person, which I admire most.

Passepartout is righteous man. He is a Paris and he is really strong. He has ever been a singer, actor, coach, etc. he always helps Mr. Fogg whenever Mr. Fogg is stuck.

Mr. Fogg went from London to Suez by train and shit, using 7 days. Then he went from Suez to Bombay by shit, using 13 days. Then he went from Bombay to Calcutta by train, using 3 days. Then he went from Calcutta to Hong Kong by shit, using 13 days. Then he went from Hong Kong to YOK by shit, using 6 days. Then his went from YOK to San Francisco by shit, using 22days. Then he went from San Francisco to New York by train, using 7 days. Finally he went back to London from New York by shit and train, using 9 days. It took him 80 days in all to travel around the world.

The story makes me have a better knowledge of geography. But what is the most important is that it encourages me to believe in myself. Just as Mr. Fogg said, “If only one trusts himself and have self-confidence, he can achieve anything.”Self-confidence is the stepping-stone to success. And owning self-confidence has many other advantages.

First of all, confidence makes us happier in our life. Life is like a wonderful song, a bright and colorful painting. If confidence is with us in our life, we will find that life really becomes richer and more interesting.

Then, confidence makes us brave and courageous. If we lack confidence in ourselves, how can we overcome difficulties we meet with? If we have no confidence in ourselves, how can we succeed in developing ourselves in the future? Without confidence, nothing can be accomplished. That is to say, if you want to win, you have to believe in yourself.

Confidence is power--the power to attract, persuade, influence, and succeed. Imagine what our life would be like if we had an abundance of self-confidence!

Confidence isn't an inherited trait, it's a learned one. This means that we can have an abundance of self-confidence. Start here, right now.

Confidence starts in the mind. What we think of ourselves very much influences the way we feel about ourselves. This, in turn, affects the way we speak and act.

No one can make us feel inferior without our consent.

The very first thing we have to do to create abundant self-confidence is to start thinking with confidence. Pay attention to our internal dialogue, and learn to notice when we allow negativity or doubt to control the course of our thinking.

Our environment has a tremendous influence on us. The books

we read, the people we spend time with, and the music we listen to all influence the way we think and feel about ourselves and the world around you.

In a nutshell, our environment can either build up our self-confidence or drag it down.

If we’re in a situation where we're discouraged, such as an unhealthy relationship or a miserable job, we have to change that situation if we want our self-confidence level to grow.

Create an environment that supports us if our desire to have abundant self-confidence. Spend time with confident people.

Remember those, self-confidence can be ours!

These are part of and maybe the most important part of sense I have learnt from the book. I hope that I can be a confident girl and be the top one in my field.

《老人与海》英语读书报告《The old man and the sea》

The Old Man and the Sea Nowadays I have read a book called The Old Man and the Sea. This novel written by Hemingway told us a story about an old man whose name is Santiago. It was one of Hemingway’s most famous novels and helped Hemingway made great achievement in his literature career. What’s more, this book was published by YILIN PRESS in April 1, 2007. The hero of The Old Man and the Sea was a senior fisherman who called Santiago. He was ordinary but brave and great. Whatever the weather, he had to fish to make a living. His life was very hard, but he never gave up. Santiago faced his life positively and lived well by himself. Fortunately, he was not lonely because of the company of a little boy. The cute boy’s name was Manolin. In Manolin’s heart, this old fisherman was not only a hero, but also his idol. He treated Santiago very well and often helped him. Though Manolin’s parents prevented him staying with Santiago, this little boy didn’t do this. He still chose to accompany and learn from the senior fisherman, who was a hero in his eyes. He believed that Santiago was a good fisherman and he could obtain some knowledge from him. I think that we should also learn from Santiago due to his great spirit. Although he was very poor, he was still confident enough to overcome all the difficulties in his life. His body was weak, but his mind was strong. For about 84 days, Santiago hadn’t got any fishes. However, he didn’t stop trying. He just made good preparation and set out in the 85th day. Through the 3-day fight, the old fisherman got the first fish in those 88 days. It was a big marlin fish. Seeing it, Santiago was quite tired out but also excited. Unexpectedly, after he made the big marlin fish surrender, he met across some big and fierce sharks. Those sharks wanted to eat the big marlin fish too. Certainly, Santiago wouldn’t allow it happen. Facing those terrible sharks, Santiago wasn’t afraid. He fought against them bravely. Finally, those sharks ate the meat of the big marlin fish, just leaving the bone of the big marlin fish to the old man. Maybe someone would regard Santiago as a loser, but from my point of view, Santiago didn’t lose. He was a hero and his spirit would exit in people’s heart forever.

Many people in the world are trying to find a perfect companion. Some of these may marry and not know what their new husband or wife is like. This kind of situation often leads to separation or hostility. Other situations may develop between two friends that stem from jealousy, desire for revenge, uncaring parents, etc. Emily Bront?'s Wuthering Heights displays several characteristics of destructive relationships. Three of these are uncaring parents, marriage without knowing the person, and jealousy. Uncaring or unsympathizing parents are shown throughout this story to be an element of destructive relationships. Because Heathcliff gained all the attention from Mr. Earnshaw, Hindley became disassociated from his father. This separation continued until after Mr. Earnshaw had died.Another example is between Hindley and Hareton. Hindley became such a drunk and a gambler that he could not properly care for young Hareton. This led to a separation between Hareton and his father as well. One primary example

A Book Report of The Old Man and the Sea The Old Man and the Sea is a novel written by Ernest Hemingway, an American novelist. The story is set in the 20th century after World War II, which is based on the novel written true story Hemingway himself has experienced. Exactly, it’s a story of an epic struggle between an old, seasoned fisherman and the greatest catch of his life. Leading character Santiago, an aged Cuban fisherman, has set out to sea and returned empty-handed. At first 84 days, he did not even fish one fish. He did not have enough food, and many locals to doubt his fishing technique. Some even laugh at him. So, He decided to go to the sea to fish food and proved that he is a skilled fisherman. On the eight-fifth day of his unlucky streak, Santiago does as promised, sailing his skiff far beyond the island’s shallow coastal waters and venturing into the Gulf Stream. At noon, a big fish, marlin, take the bait that Santiago has placed before. Although the old man expertly hooks the fish, but he cannot pull it in. Instead, the fish begins to pull the boat. He knows perfectly well very difficult to win, but still did not give up. Since then, they began their three-day fighting. The entire time, Santiago, endures constant pain from the fishing line. Eventually, the third day, the fish tires, and Santiago manages to pull the marlin in close enough to kill it with a harpoon thrust. However, things do not go smoothly as he expected. On his way home, he is attacked buy several crowds of shark. Although he kills the sharks in the end, they have devoured the marlin’s precious meat, leaving only skeleton. The old man arrives home before daybreak, and sleeps very deeply. Later on, the old man wakes up and finds the little boy Mandolin staying with him, and decides to go to sea to fish again. In fact, the story contains many different symbols and themes .By reading this book, I was deeply impressed by the old man and what he said “a man can be destroyed but not defeated.” Santiago, though destroyed at the end of the novella, is never defeated. Instead, he emerges as a hero. Santiago’s struggle does not enable him to change man’s place in the world. But the struggle somehow enables him to meet his most dignified destiny. The old man sets a good example for us. He teachers us that we

The whole story make peoples mood heavy. Fortunately, the end is happy. The author Emily Bronte lived an eccentric, closely guarded life. She was born in 1818, two years after Charlottethe author of Jane Eyre and a year and a half before her sister Anne, who also became an author. Her father worked as a church rector, and her aunt, who raised the Bronte children after their mother died, was deeply religious. Emily Bronte did not take to her aunts Christian fervor, the character of Joseph, a caricature of an evangelical, may have been inspired by her aunts religiosity. The Brontes lived in Haworth, a Yorkshire village in the midst of the moors. These wild, desolate expanseslater the setting of Wuthering Heightsmade up the Brontes daily environment, and Emily lived among them her entire life. She died in 1848, at the age of thirty. I like this book because it rest on the unforgettable characters. Wuthering Heights is based partly on the Gothic tradition, a style of literature that featured supernatural encounters, crumbling ruins, moonless nights, and grotesque

The Book Report of Wuthering Heights Wuthering Heights is a very famous novel which is written by the British writer ----Emily Bronte, who is one of the most remarkable novelists of the 19th in English literature. The whole book is full of strong spirit of the struggle against oppression, the struggle for happiness, and always hangs over the strange, nervous romantic atmosphere. When Wuthering Heights was firstly published, it was seen as the young woman writer’s naive fantasy divorcing from the reality. But as time went on, based on the description of social phenomenon of British and the fierce class struggle, it soon achieved highly affirmation of the critics, and was warmly welcomed by the public. Wuthering Heights, containing plentiful emotions, sublime love and a variety of world viewpoints as well as life philosophy, is regarded as the strangest novel in the history of English literature. The novel Wuthering Heights is full of love and hatred which are both conflicted and combined. The impressive, relentless and vigorous love arouses implacable emotions in depth of the reader’s heart with its ultimate passion, infatuation and great miseries. The hatred from the deepest bottom of the heart, which has brought so many pains, shocks the reader’s brain. Wuthering Heights, through a tragic love story, shows a picture of life in an abnormal society, and outlines humanity distorted by this terrible abnormal society and resulting horrible events. The whole story is actually spread gradually through four stages. The first stage describes the happy childhood of Heathcliff and Catherine; Special feelings are formed in the special environment between an orphan and a young lady, and they give Sindre the bossy tyranny. The second stage emphatically describes that Catherine betrays Heathcliff because of her vanity, ignorant and fatuity and then become the hostess of Thrushcross grange. The third stage has an emphasis on depicting how Heathcliff turns hatred and despair into the strategy and action of revenge. The final stage just tells the Heathcliff's death.
