I Dictionary Meaning
1. Travel
[vi.] make a journey, typically of some length or abroad
E.g.: He is traveling in Africa.
[n.] a. (mass) the action of travelling, typically abroad
E.g.: I have a job which involves quite a lot of travel.
b. (c.) journeys, especially long or exotic ones
E.g.: Perhaps you'll write a book about your travels.
2. Journey
[vi.] travel somewhere
E.g.: They journeyed south.
[n., c.] an act of travelling from one place to another
E.g.: She went on a long journey.

3. Trip
[vi.] go on a short journey
E. g.: When tripping in Chengdu, please take some time to pay us a visit.

E.g.: Mother took me downtown on a shopping trip.

4. Tour
[n., c.] a. a journey for pleasure in which several different places are visited
E.g.: He is planning a tour of the world.
b. a short trip to or through a place in order to view or inspect something.
E.g.: My father has gone down-town on a shopping tour.

E.g.: He decided to tour France.
He toured in America and Europe.
5. Voyage
[n. c.] a long journey involving travel by sea or in space
E.g.: They made a voyage across the Pacific by air.
[vi.] go on a long journey, typically by sea or in space
E.g.: He has voyaged through places like Venezuela and Peru.
6. Outing
[n., c.] a trip taken for pleasure, especially one lasting a day or less ((尤指一日内的)外出游玩)
E.g.: They would go on family outings to the movies.
7. Excursion
[n., c.] a short journey or trip, especially one engaged in as a leisure activity
E.g.: He took us on an all-day excursion to the ruined city.
II Comparison
1. Travel
[suggests going out here and there for pleasure, on business or other purposes, esp. that over a long distance and staying away for long, without implication of a definite destination.]
通常泛指“旅行”,词义广泛,可以指长期、短期的,不论何种目的,不论使用何种交通工具的旅行,尤指长途的海外旅行。travels用来表示“包括访问几个地方的一次长时间的旅行、国外旅行”,也用来表示“旅行笔记”。
He wrote a book about his travels. 他写了本游记。
2. Journey
[implies the distance traveled (esp. on land) in going to a place, esp. a distant place.]
表示“旅行,旅程”,意示去某一地方的陆地旅行的距离,适用范围广,多指陆上旅行。不用于指距离很短的旅行。
3. Trip
[suggests a (short) journey, esp. one for pleasure or business, alone or in group, often used in connection with words indicating the occasion.]
一般指时间短、距离近的“旅行、远

足”,也可以指长途旅行。在非正式用语中可代替journey。

4. Tour
