How to present an effective academic speech

It is generally acknowledged that to prepare an effective academic speech is a really sophisticated work. But in my opinion, if you lay emphasis on the following key points, you will find that it is a quite easy work.

How to present an effective academic speech? On one hand, you should do a full preparation before the academic speech. On the other hand, during the academic speech, you should control yourself in some details.

The preparation before the speech involves the preparation of speech content and your practice before the official speech.

In other words, to prepare good speech content is to do a wonderful ppt. First of all, the content on ppt must be complete and systematic. Generally, the content in ppt is divided into five parts, introduction, methodology, data and estimation procedures, empirical results and conclusions. In addition , the ppt should be compact and clear. Therefore you should avoid using flaring underground in the ppt. At the same time , an appropriate combination of colors of the underground and the script is a visual delight. What is of vital importance, in order to make most of the audience understood, you need to combine some relevant pictures and videos with your abstract theories.

After a good preparation of the speech content, a good practice is essential. Only in this way, can you be proficient in your speech content. As a result, you will know that where you should emphasize, where you will interpret simply, and where you can introduce a question to make the audience think deeply . Meanwhile, during the practice, you will control the time very well to complete the academic speech in requested time.

Then in the official academic speech, you must focus on some details you often ignored. Firstly, in order to make a good beginning, you should do an appropriate prologue, to show your courtesy to the audience and honored guests. Secondly, during the speech, you should face the audience instead of the computer or the screen. Thirdly, a great passion can easily catch the audience, so you must try to raise your passion as soon as possible. In some condition, you can use some body language and humor to raise your passion and make the atmosphere up. One more point, we often use a laser

pointer but most of us don’t know how to use it correctly. Many speakers used to sway the laser point during the speech. Of course this is a taboo. You should move the laser pointer gently or point where you need to explain to the audience only a second. Moreover, if you stand on the right of the screen, you should use the laser point on your left hand to avoid turning back.

All in all, if you do a full preparation before and control yourself in some details during the official speech .Presenting an effective academic speech is just a piece of cake.

Amazing as it may seem, many Americans appear to consider public speaking a fate worse than death. Therefore, we can say that speaking in public means a great challenge to everybody. Nervousness mainly comes from the fact that we do not know what to say, how to say and less training. There are a lot of things that make a successful speech, such as your topic, your delivery, your language. Among them, the organization of the speech is the first concern of the public speaker. Then comes the second problem, How to organize you speech well. It involves several factors, such as your topic, your purpose and your central idea, and so on.
