Abstract:①The study of religion-politics relation is a part of sociology of religion, which first appeared, as an independent subject, at the later 1990s. ②Sociology of religion was divided into two groups marked by Emile Durkheim and Weber’s theories. There are many achievement s—especially in translation some works of Western world and bringing in some theorie s—in sociology of religion in China since it began from 1980s. Still it is not enough, especially in theoretical formula、basic assumption and study logic. ③This article aims at helping understanding American culture and guiding us in our international communication through a simple study of the effects religion has on politics. ④The thesis, based on Merton’s functionalism, tries to analysis the 2008 American presidential election debates speech, and finds the effects religion has on American policy. ⑤The study finds that religions, especially Christianity and Judaism, have a great effect on American policy and American presidential election. ⑥Thus further study of religion is much helpful to us in understanding American policy and culture, and in international negotiation and carrying of China’s religious policy.

摘要：宗教与政治的关系研究是宗教社会学研究的一部分，宗教社会学研究作为独立研究领域诞生于19世纪下半叶，以迪尔凯姆和韦伯的宗教思想分流为两大派。中国的宗教社会学研究起步晚，与20世纪80年代才开始，到目前取得了一些成就，特别是翻译和引进西方著作和理论方面。但在理论公式、基本假设、研究逻辑等上仍严重不足，甚至缺失。本文目的在于用一种理论为指导对宗教对政治的影响进行研究，从而帮助我们理解美国文化，指导我们的对外交流。本文拟用默顿的功能理论来分析

08年美国总统竞选反映出的宗教对美国政策的影响。论文首先介绍了默顿的功能理论，并用其分析了奥巴马和麦凯恩竞选演讲稿的话语和宗教政策。通过研究发现，宗教特别是基督新教和犹太教对美国政策和美国的总统竞选影响极大，这也进一步影响着国际关系。因此，进一步研究宗教的社会作用和意义对我们理解美国政策和美国文化有很大的帮助，正确的理解将有利于中美文化交流和我国宗教政策的制定。

Influences of Religion on American Policies

1. Introduction

As the world’s most powerful country in both economy and politics, the United States of American has always attracted all peoples attention. The nation’s policy has been playing an unignorable section on the earth’s international climate. Thus, the study of American policy is a window for us to see the American world and to gain some useful information about the tactics of inter-national communication. The 2008 American Presidential Election, through thousands of tough days and nights, has ended with an aspiring result that a African-American got the crown. Behind the result was a lots of stories which worthes our high attention. Among them, the role of religion is expected to pay strong attention. This thesis aims at find out the useful information about the causation of Obama’s success : his policy towards the religion and the other countried in the world ; his supporter and the efforts they made, and what’s more, his rial McCain’s policy and his struggle.

2. Conclusion

The United States Congress is a political forum for political elite. It does not only make law for society questions, but also for religious legislation. Thus the religious belief and religious concept of Congress members weight much in the progress of legislation. On the issue of religion, legislation and legal system, the United States Government's policy is very specific, that is, to consider the question from the citizen's rights and interests of the country. The relationship between religion and politics in the United States was, is and in the future must still be inseparable. Research and exploration of American religion and politics and their mutual relations are our key to understand the American culture and American civilization. And the understanding of the religious fact ors’ role is the key for us

to recognize the American society.

At Our country’s academia, the study of the religious and political relationship as the main content is still few. At the same time, as the history of the world is Remodeling along cultural lines in these days, the trend of Sino-US relations and its development is so significant that China should and must get thorough and comprehensive understanding of the United States and its society. Therefore, the thesis will have some reference value to certain government departments and leaders of our country in the formulation of policy.
