The Study of Speech Sounds in Language I. Introduction Knowledge of a language includes that of the different components of the language: the morphemes,words,phrases,and sentences. It also includes knowing what sounds are in the language and how these sounds are put together to form meaningful units. Different terms can be found in describing the sound system of language. Traditional terminology puts phonetics and phonology at a paralleled level. In this terminology, phonetics is the study of separate speech sounds, while phonology is concerned with the system of combination of sounds. According to the terminology in some books, however, the study of speech sounds in a general way is termed as phonology. It is concerned with all the aspects of the speech sounds and sound systems of a language. Its subdivisions are phonemics. Phonetics deals with speech sounds in isolation, and phonemics studies the systems of speech sounds. To avoid confusion, the traditional terminology is adopted in this book. II. Analysis on ---- 2.1. Analysis of speech sounds The study of phonic medium of language in isolation is the level of phonetics, attempting to describes all the sounds that occur in human language. It’s mainly concerned with the production, transmission, and perception of the speech sounds. Analysis of speech sounds can be approached from the following 4 levels Level 1: anatomy and physiology----refers to speech organs and their functions Level 2: articulatory phonetics----studies how to produce speech sounds. Level 3: auditory phonetics---studies how the sounds are perceived by the hearer. Level4: acoustic phonetics----studies the way speech sounds are transmitted in the air(using spectrographs, analyze sound waves). 2. 2. Process of speech production and perception 2.2.1. Articulatory phonetics studies the sounds from the speaker’s point of view,how a speaker manipulates his speech organs to produce speech sounds. This branch is the longest established and the most highly developed. 2.2.2. Auditory phonetics studies the way listeners perceive the speech

Abstract: All kinds of languages are constantly changing. It is mainly concerned about pronunciation, word meaning, semantic and sentence structure. And the change of word meaning is the most obvious and rapid. This paper analyses the cause of the change through linguistic aspect, the trend of semantic changes and the effect of the change. Key words: word meaning, change, cause, effect 1.Introduction Nowadays, we can easily find that word meaning changes in english are keeping striking our eyes. Some words have come into appearance in all aspects of our life while some words have disappeared as they lost the favor of people. Facing so many English new words, how can the English learners learn them efficiently? The answer is that we should know how the word meaning changes and analyses the principles. It is very helpful for english learners to learn english words when they know why words change. There are many reasons for the lexical meaning change. The paper will discuss the linguistic factors mainly. 2.Literature review 2.1 Current situation Since 1987, scholars have started to notice the change of word meaning. During 1987 to 2009, many researches have been written. The overseas scholars like Roy Peter Clark Published Change in the Meaning of Words Demands Care in the Use of Language on Poynter in 2009. He believed that there is some predictability in the way words change over time. And Grzega, Joachim published "Historical Semantics in the Light of Cognitive Linguistics: Aspects of a new reference book reviewed" in 2000. And Traugott, Elizabeth Closs published "From less to more situated in language: the unidirectionality of Semantic change", in Adamson, Silvia, 1990. Domestic scholars like CHEN Lei-jing (Shaoguan Radio & TV University, Shaoguan 512005,Gunangdong, China) wrote an essay Exploration of the Change of English Word Meaning from Socio-Linguistic Perspective. This essay analyses the basic factors such as the social environment, the social psychology and the social culture etc. through socio-linguistic perspective.

英语系语言学本科毕业论文 简论经济语言学 摘要：在语言学的框架下，从语用层面上将已有的语言经济原则重新界定为经济语言学。经济语言学不是语言经济学，经济语言学被语言经济学包含，经济语言学承栽语言经济学。经济语言学是研究言语优化配置，实现效用最大化的科学。它遵循认识支配言语配置的基本规律，具体研究如何使语言经济的一般均衡性、前提共识性、择近性、从众性以及言语生效性。 关键词：言语配置;语言经济学;经济语言学 一、引言 经济语言学不是语言经济学，但二者之间又有着密切的联系。经济语言学被语言经济学包含，经济语言学承载语言经济学袁俏玲2021。 语言经济学的理论基础是人力资本学说和教育经济学。它是一门语言学和经济学交叉相融的边缘学科。一方面，它一直是语言学隐型或显型的一个分支;另一方面，它是非常年轻的经济学分支。语言经济学所涵盖的主要内容为： 1语言本身是一种人力资本，语言作为人力资本可以用来补充和取代其它类型的人力资本。 2 学习母语、第二语言、外语是对人力资本生产的一种经济投资，它可以产生学会语言后的投资预期效益。 3语言的经济价值有高低之分;语言有经济价值高低之分。学习和掌握不同语言，语言学习和掌握的程度不同，而赋予语言学习者高低有分的经济效益。 4语言的经济效用受诸多因素的影响。黄知常2002某一语言的经济效用由该语言在不同市场上的使用程度所决定，因国家、民族、地区、社会环境、语言政策因素的不同而不同。 值得强调的是，这里所讲的经济语言学不是有关经济方面语言的学说。所谓“经济语言是人们理解经济问题、进行经济联系的工具。”周冰1994 语言学层面上语用经济概念最早是相对冗赘un-dancy提出的。国内外学者对此已有论及，郭秀梅1985认为“经济即指如果一个词足够的话，决不用第二个”;Leech1983将语言经济原则理解为“快捷”quick and easy。他从语音和句法两个层次对语言如何经济进行了阐述。陈新仁1994又在Leech的基础上将语言如何经济充实为“逻辑缩约”、“语法省略”和“语音简略”。
