Relationship Between Versant English T est & TOEIC Scores

Introduction

This document describes how the Versant English Test relates to TOEIC scores. Note that the Versant English Test and TOEIC address different constructs (types of language proficiency), and the

corresponding scores provided below are based on the relationships observed in studies conducted by Pearson. The studies involved 494 test takers (237 Korean, 257 Japanese) who sat both the TOEIC test and Versant English Test. The correlation between the two sets of test scores was r = 0.80.

It is important to keep in mind that the tests given here have different designs and test methods (e.g., spoken vs. written). Due to these differences, it is very difficult to give exact comparisons. Predictions provided in this document are therefore approximate and the information does not intend to guarantee a score on TOEIC.

About TOEIC

The TOEIC Listening and Reading test is a paper-and-pencil, multiple-choice assessment that elicits responses in two sections (Listening and Reading). It is claimed that the TOEIC measures the everyday English skills of people working in an international environment. TOEIC total scores are reported on a 10 – 990 scale.
