7.What are you up to?

be up to胜任, 从事于

这句话通常我们就只会说, "What are you doing?" 例如: "What are you up to?"

想找人八卦, 所以问同事, "In the middle of something?" 他回答, "Kind of." 这时你就可以打破砂锅问到底, "What are you up to?" What are you up to?" 跟另一句问候语"What's up?" What are you up to?" 指的虽然还是"What are you doing?" 例如当你看到别人在乱翻你的东西, 你就可以责问他, "Hey, what are you up to?" 或是像电影Blow 里毒贩的老爸骂他的儿子, "I know what you are up to." 以上这些例子里, "What are you up to?" 完全可以用"What are you doing?" What are you up to?" 例如朋友告诉你他正在写一部武侠小说, (就像我的lab mate一样), 你就可以问他, "What are you up to?" (进展的如何了), 而他的回答可能是, "I am writing Chapter 3 now."

8.You got screwed. = You got cheated.

screwsb also screw sb over(slang)= to cheat someone or treat them in

9.He is such a mess.

10.I don’t think that was my point.

11.Here is the thing. = The point is...

The thing is: blah, blah, blah." 挂在嘴边,或是有人会说,"Here is the thing." I really like that new house, but the thing is,how much is it?"

12.big time ph.

e.g. Make friends with him. He is a big-time businessman.

13.I think we’re getting a little ahead of ourselves.

get ahead of oneself言之过早

e.g. It was here in 1863 that the Football Association was found; but we are getting ahead of ourselves. Ancient

England had its own form of a soccer-type game.

14.I take credit for Paul.

take credit for抢军功

A: Mary? I'd like to talk to you for a second, please.

B: Okay, Mark, What's up?

A: I'd like to know why you're always taking credit for work we've done together like that line in the new Ice Cream ad?

B: That was my line, Mark. I know we worked on the ad together, but that was definitely my line.

对话里的take credit to oneself for就是“把…… He took credit for the attack that killed his girlfriend.

I take credit for Paul.

15.There was no snap in his turtle…

The "snap in his turtle" refers to sexual performance; it's kind of a "clean" way of saying a vulgar idea (also known as a euphemism). A man who has no snap in his turtle is impotent; or, unable to have an erection.

16.It sucks, but…

That traffic here really sucks! Today is very sucky, everything sucks.

I noticed something that I wanna tell you.. Maybe it's not a big deal actually. In your message, I saw a

word "sucks" um.. I think that's not a good word though... you know I think girls shouldn’t say that words..even

a guy... I don't know I can hear that word all over the place but I still can't get used to it.. in my opinion, that's

worse than say "fuck" or "shit" but that are all bad words anyway.. ok, don't say those words ok? cause I have very expectation on you and I don't want to hear those words from you ok? maybe it's not that big deal though.... don't know..

17.What’s the deal?

【Season 1 Index】 Episode 101 : The One Where Monica Gets A New Roommate (Pilot) Episode 102 : The One With The Sonogram At The End Episode 103 : The One With The Thumb Episode 104 : The One With George Stephanopoulos Episode 105 : The One With The East German Laundry Detergent Episode 106 : The One With The Butt Episode 107 : The One With The Blackout Episode 108 : The One Where Nana Dies Twice Episode 109 : The One Where Underdog Gets Away Episode 110 : The One With The Monkey Episode 111 : The One With Mrs. Bing Episode 112 : The One With The Dozen Lasagnas Episode 113 : The One With The Boobies Episode 114 : The One With The Candy Hearts Episode 115 : The One With The Stoned Guy Episode 116 : The One With Two Parts, Part 1

Danielle: Just once, can we have a soup that people all heard of, like French onion, or navy bean. Bree: First of all, your father can't eat onions. He's deathly allergic. And I won't even dignify your navy bean suggestion. So, how's the osso buco? Andrew: It's okay. Bree: It's okay? Andrew, I spent three hours cooking this meal. How do you think it makes me feel when you say it's okay in that sullen tone? Andrew: Who asked you to spend three hours on dinner? Bree: Excuse me? Andrew: Tim Harper's mom gets home from work, pops open

a can of pork and beans, and boom, they're eating. Everyone's happy. Bree: You'd rather I serve pork and beans? Danielle: Apologize now, I am begging you. Andrew: I'm saying, do you always have to serve cuisine? Can't we ever just have food? Bree: Are you doing drugs? Andrew: What? Bree: Change in behavior is one of the warning signs and you have been as fresh as paint for the last six months. That would explain why you're always locked in the bathroom. Danielle: Trust me, that is not what he is doing. Andrew: Shut up. Mom, I'm not the one have a problem here, right? You're the one who is acting like she's running for mayor of Stepford. Bree: Rex. Seeing that you're the head of this household, I would really appreciate you saying something. Rex: Pass the salt.

So?

Central Perk is proud to present the music of Miss Phoebe Buffay. (applause) Phoebe: Hi. Um, I want to start with a song thats about that moment when you suddenly realize what life is all about. OK, here we go. (plays a chord, then the lights go out) OK, thank you very much. [Scene: The ATM vestibule of a bank, Chandler is inside. The lights go out, and he realizes he is trapped inside.] Chandler: Oh, great. This is just... (Chandler sees that there is a gorgeous model inside the vestibule with him. He makes a gesture of quiet exuberance.)

【102】The One With The Sonogram At The End antique’s No.2 The One With the Sonogram at the End 1.Rachel: Everything you need to know is in that first kiss. 2.Chandler: Yeah, I think for us, kissing is pretty much like an opening act, y'know? I mean it's like the stand-up comedian you have to sit through before Pink Floyd comes out. 3.Marsha: Well, she has issues. Do you have any issues? 4.Carol: Marty's still totally paranoid. 5.Rachel: Oh, like I wasn't dreading tomorrow enough, having to give it back to him... 'Hi Barry! Remember me? I'm the girl in the veil who stomped on your heart in front of your entire family!' Oh God and now I'm gonna have to return the ring, without the ring, which makes it so much harder... 6.Chandler: Kinda puts that whole pillow thing in perspective, huh, Mon?“kinda”在片中出现的次数非常频繁,也是口语中非常实用的词语,意思是有一点儿,相当于kind of. 7.Monica: I know this is going to sound unbelievably selfish, but, were you planning on bringing up the whole baby/lesbian thing? Because I think it might take some of the heat off me.Ross和Monica的父母来看望他们,由于从小父母就喜欢Ross(因为Ross成绩优异,为人老实,而

【103】The One With The Thumb antique’s NO.3 The One With the Thumb 1. Phoebe: Um, not so good. He walked me to the subway and said 'We should do this again!' “We should do this again”,表面上好像是以后我们还应该再继续约会,其实这是dating language,往往都是反着说的,近年来网路上有很多类似的帖子,大家可以找来看看,很搞笑的。 比如“I t's not you'”就是“It is you”,“You're such a nice guy”意思是“I'm gonna be dating leather-wearing alcoholics and complaining about them to you”等等。 Cushions the blow. 3.Monica: I mean, why should I let them meet him? I mean, I bring a guy home, and within five minutes they're all over him. I mean, they're like- coyotes, picking off the weak members of the herd . Paula: Listen. As someone who's seen more than her fair share of bad beef, I'll tell you: that is not such a terrible thing. I mean, they're your friends, they're just looking out after you. Pick off the weak members of the herd,摘取、挑选弱处下手的意思。 4.Paula: Well, you do realize the odds of that happening are a little slimmer if they never get to meet the guy .odds这里的意思是可能的机会、几率,相当于Chance。 5.Monica: (to Alan) Thanks. I'll call you tomorrow. (Alan exits, to all) Okay. Okay, let's let the Alan-bashing begin. Who's gonna take the first shot, hmm?
