The world would be a better place if we all had children?s eyes. This is not because children?s eyes are too sharp to allow any blot(污点, 瑕疵)to pass without being 36 , but because adults have too many conflicting concerns to keep their eyes open to all wrongdoing.

Not long before, an examination, intended to 37 some police officers to higher positions, was held in Gansu province. Someone 38 with a good idea that 18 primary pupils could be invited to act as invigilators (监考人). At that age, students would do as they are told and act fearlessly. 39 , they caught 25 officers cheating on the spot, which has caused a stir (轰动,搅动) and 40 the question of whether adult invigilators would 41 their duties as well.

The implication of this event goes 42 its impact on the work style of local police officers and the examinations. Most people said what these children have done points to the sad fact of 43 being less trustworthy. If adults acted as invigilators, they would quite 44 turn a blind eye to cheating.

We Chinese have been holding the 45 that human nature was good at birth: as 46 of blot as a sheet of blank paper, which can be 47 with content (good or bad) in the process of growing up. Adults have become too concerned with their own personal gains to 51_ basic sense of principles. When no one 52 any

principle and the only concern is personal interest, everyone will _53 , not only those who first break the rules.

Besides, cheats are unfair to honest examinees, and when the success of cheats 54 more people to cheat, the consequences will be disastrous.

In a word, we adults need to have our eyes as 55 as children?s on matters of principle.

第三部分:阅读理解(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)

请认真阅读下列短文,从短文后各题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中,选出最佳选项。

A

When international aid is given, steps must be taken to ensure(确保)that the aid reaches the people for whom it is intended. The way to achieve this may not be simple. It is very difficult for a nation to give help directly to people in another nation. The United Nations Organization (UNO) could undertake to direct the distribution of aid. Here however rises the problem of costs. Also tied with this is time. Perhaps the UNO could set up a body of devoted men and women in every country who can speedily distribute aid to victims of floods and earthquakes.

More than the help that one nation can give to another during a disaster, it would be more effective to give other forms of help during normal times. A common proverb says, “Give me a fish and I eat for a day, teach me to fish and I eat for a lifetime.”If we follow this wise saying, it would be right to teach people from less developed nations to take care of themselves. For example, a country could share its technology with another. This could be in simple areas like agriculture or in more complex areas like medical and health care or even in building satellites. Even a small country is able to help less developed nations. Sometimes what is taken for granted, like the setting up of a water purification plant or the administration of a school, could be useful for countries which are looking about to solve common problems. It does not cost much to share such simple things. Exchange students could be attached for a number of months or years and

learn the required craft while on the site. They can then take their knowledge back to their homelands and if necessary come back from time to time to clear doubts or to update themselves. Such aid will be truly helpful and there is no chance of it being temporary or of it falling into the wrong hands.

Many countries run extensive courses in all sorts of skills. It will not cost much to include deserving foreigners in these courses. Besides giving effective help to the countries concerned, there is also the build-up of friendships to consider. Giving direct help by giving materials may be effective in the short run and must continue to be given in the event of emergencies. However, in the long run what is really effective would be the sharing of knowledge.

56.According to the author, how could international aid reach the victims in time?

A. By solving the cost problems.

B. By solving the transportation problems.

C. By setting up a body of devoted people in every country.

D. By relying on the direct distribution of the UNO.

57. What does the author try to express in the underlined sentence?

A. Providing food is vital.

B. Learning to fish is helpful.

C. Teaching skills is vital.

D. Looking after others is important.

58. The second paragraph is developed mainly.

A. by example

B. by process

C. by comparison

D. by contrast

59. Which aid is likely to fall into the wrong hands?

A. A medical team.

B. An exchange program.

C. A water plant.

D. Financial support.

60. What can we infer about international aid from the passage?

A. It is facing difficulties.

B. It is unnecessary during normal times.

C. It should be given in the form of materials.

D. It has gained support from developed countries.

B

Call it the learning paradox: the more you struggle and even fail while you?re trying to learn new information, the better you?re likely to recall and apply that information later.

The learning paradox is at the heart of “productive failure,”a phenomenon identified by researcher Manu Kapur points out that while the model adopted by many teachers when introducing students to new knowledge providing lots of structure and guidance early on, until the students show that they can do it on their own makes intuitive sense, it may not be the best way to promote learning. Rather, it?s better to let the learners wrestle with the material on their own for a while, refraining from giving them any assistance at the start. In a paper published recently, Kapur applied the principle of productive failure to mathematical problem solving in three schools.

With one group of students, the teacher provided strong “scaffolding”--instructional support and feedback. With the teacher?s help, these pupils were able to find the answers to their set of problems. Meanwhile, a second group was directed to solve the same problems by cooperating with one another, without any prompts from their instructor. These students weren?t able to complete the problems correctly. But in the course of trying to do so, they generated a lot of ideas about the nature of the problems and about what potential solutions would look like. And when the two groups were tested on what they?d learned the second group “significantly outperformed” the first.

The apparent struggles of the floundering (挣扎的) group have what Kapur calls a “hidden efficacy”: they lead people to understand the deep structure of problems, not simply their correct solutions. When these students encounter a new problem of the same type on a test, they?re able to transfer the knowledge they?ve gathered more effectively than those who were the passive recipients of someone else?s expertise.

In the real world, problems rarely come neatly packaged, so being able to discern their deep structure is key. But, Kapur notes, none of us like to fail, no matter how often Silicon Valley entrepreneurs praise the beneficial effects of an idea that fails or a start-up company that crashes and burns. So we need to “design for productive failure” by building it into the learning process, Kapur has identified three conditions that promote this kind of beneficial struggle. First, choose problems to work on that “challenge but do not frustrate.”Second, provide learners with opportunities to explain and elaborate on what they?re doing. Third, give learners the chance to compare and contrast good and bad solutions to the problems. And to those students who protest this tough-love teaching style: you?ll thank me later.

61. Why does the author call the learning process a paradox?

A. Pains do not necessarily lead to gains.

B. What is learned is rarely applicable in life.

C. Failure more often than not feeds success.

D. The more is taught, the less is learned.

62. What does Kapur disapprove of in teaching?

A. Asking students to find and solve problems on their own.

B. Developing students? ability to apply what they learn.

C. Giving students detailed guidance and instruction.

D. Allowing students a free hand in problem solving.

63. What do people tend to think of providing strong scaffolding in teaching?

A. It will make teaching easier.

B. It is a sensible way of teaching.

C. It can motivate(激发) average students.

D. It will build up students? confidence.

64. What kind of problem should be given to students to solve according to Kapur?

A. It should be able to encourage cooperative learning.

B. It should be easy enough so as not to frustrate students.

C. It should be solvable by average students with ease.

D. It should be difficult enough but still within their reach.

65. What can be expected of this tough-love teaching style?

A. Students will be grateful in the long term.

B. Teachers will meet with a lot of resistance.

C. Parents will think it too harsh on their kids.

D. It may not be able to yield the desired results.

C

It?s amazing how we grow from careless kids to responsible teens. What happens in the course that makes us responsible now? It?s the seed that we sow in the beginning which grows and becomes a huge tree. As I sit here, silently thinking about my growth, I wonder over some questions which don?t have an answer but it?s because of such unanswerable situations that life has become a roller coaster ride.

As a kid, I used to read a lot of story books. In one particular book, I read a story of a bird.

From then on, that has become an integral (必不可少的) part of my life. It described a male bird which takes a lot of pain to build a nest and the female bird takes shelter in it and nourishes the baby. When the bird learns to fly, the whole family flies off to a different place leaving behind the beautiful nest for other birds to grow their family in it. It made me wonder. How could they so easily sacrifice their house built with so much effort?

One night, when I was deep in sleep, I got this particular dream. I was walking miles on the endless road, totally isolated but lined with beautiful trees on the either side. Fascinated by the greenery, I marched towards it only to end up deeper and deeper into the greenery. I happened to stop upon seeing something. It was a massive, wonderful house. I fell in love with that amazing part of art. Yeah, it was indeed a piece of art with every nook and corner touched artistically and lovingly. I don?t know why I felt that it was done lovingly. Maybe because, things turn out to be beautiful only when we put our love into it —just like the food prepared by mom which tastes more delicious with her love.

I explored the house only to fall more in love with it. There was a sloping roof which matched with the greenery around; the large central open courtyard reminded me of the activities that might have taken place there which felt lively even now when it is completely deserted. The small water body that kept the house cool added to the beauty of the house —of course, it was all dried up now. It?s really wonderful how such things add life to the spaces which otherwise just become structures. Such liveliness and happening turns the house into a home. They say …THE HOME IS WHERE THE HEART IS?, but now I began to feel it. This is where my heart belongs. This is what I?m destined to do.

When I woke up from the dream, I was clear about everything. I realized where that mile of walk was intending me to lead. I realized what message my dream wanted to convey me. And years later, when finally my turn of choosing my destination came, I simply closed my eyes, held that book in my hand, pressed it against my chest and relived the dream. When I opened my eyes, I was sure what to do. I decided to choose the road —less traveled. Yes, I took up architecture as my profession because this is what I am destined to do. I wanted to do the same thing that the male bird in the story did, to take pain in building a beautiful house and let others stay in it. This is my dream come true and the happiness that I gain now from this profession is indescribable.

第一部分:任务型阅读(共10小题;每小题1分,满分10分)

Lead poisoning occurs when lead is presented in high level in the blood of a person. It is the most common medical problem found in children. And it?s important to recognize the presence of lead in a child?s body because lead is very harmful.

Children have the tendency to go around and put things in their mouth like paint. This is one of the main causes of lead poisoning. I also have found that children born in poor families have higher chances of getting exposed to lead. Lead can also be found in old water pipes and food and juice cans.

Some of the common symptoms of lead poisoning in children are headaches, stomach pain, hair loss, muscle weakness, weight loss, ect.

Lead poisoning can have severe effects and can lead to heart diseases, kidney diseases and other problems. It can also result in mental retardation and low I.Q. level. There have been cases where lead poisoning proves to be deadly for the child.

It?s difficult to recognize whether a child is affected with lead poisoning easily, as the symptoms of this disease can occur due to some other medical problems. Therefore, children under the age of 6 should regularly be checked to know the level of lead in their blood, through blood test. It?s possible to completely cure a child with lead poisoning through treatment. Usually, oral medicines are given to the child, while sometimes, they?re injected for reducing the lead level. Children who have very high level of lead in their blood would need treatment for a long period of time and would also be put on a special diet.

Parents have to take certain measures to lower the chance of lead poisoning in children. Cleaning the house regularly and removing shoes at the door, after coming from outside, will prevent the lead particles(微粒) from entering the house. Children should be put on a healthy diet, containing high proportions (比例) of calcium and iron, such as eggs, milk, fruits, potatoes, ect. which helps to keep the lead level in control, in the child?s body. In short, parents should be careful and protect their children from the horrible consequences of lead poisoning.

It can lead to several kinds of diseases.

Following a four-day meeting of the Communist Party of China Central Committee in Beijing, the central government announces that China allows two children for every couple.

The People's Congress at provincial level or its standing committee has revised local regulations or made new ones, with the support and guidance of the National Health and Family Planning Commission, Jiang said.

"The number of new births will definitely increase in the coming years and we estimate that the peak will be over 20 million newborn babies," said Wang Pei'an, vice-minister of the National Health and Family Planning Commission.

At present, about 60 percent of China's child-bearing women are over 35 years old, which means an increase of 'elderly' mothers will be witnessed in China in the next few years, Wang said in a news release on Friday.

"It's safe to say that the two-child policy won't bring huge pressure on food security and basic public services, such as health, education and employment," Wang said. He estimated that another 30 million working people aged between 15 and 59 will be added by 2050. "It will benefit economic growth in the long term," Wang added.

[one possible version]

The passage tells us the latest release of the two-child policy and analyzes its prospect and the positive effects it may have on China.

On a personal note, the long-awaited move immediately excited me, because having a sibling is what I have been dreaming about. With a sibling around, never will I feel lonely. In addition, I can shoulder part of the responsibility to take care of the baby, and thus learn to take care of others. Above all, I can share my joys and sorrows with another family member.

In the same way, the new policy means much more than giving children. It is expected to help to change China?s negative population trends. As is mentioned in the passage, the two-child

policy is bound to increase the fertility rate and control the aging population. Besides, it will also help to solve an imbalance between boys and girls. (148)

(Text 10)

Twin sisters are supposed to be very much alike, are they not? Well, my twin sister Jane and I do look alike. However, we are different in many ways. I care little about clothes. T shirts and blue jeans are my favorite clothes. My sister often dresses like a model. We have very similar characters in most ways. I don?t get angry and enjoy being with friends. In this respect, my twin sister feels the same. But she likes loud music and modern dances while I find that nightclubs give me a headache. She is always with friends, is the favorite of our teachers and never wants to have children. I prefer to be alone at times, don?t really try to please my teachers and want some day to have a family of my own. We have tried to live in the same room several times and even agreed on the color we like best and the kind of furniture we want. But I like to keep things neat and orderly while my twin sister acts as if there were a servant around to pick up all the things that get thrown on the floor. I like to go to bed early and get up early. She often goes to bed very late and then sleeps late next day.
