“Saman” is the most popular dances in Aceh. It is normally 36 to celebrate important occasions. It was created by a tribe in the 13th century and later developed to 37 religious messages.

UNESCO has officially recognized Aceh’s 38 Saman Dance as an intangible element of world cultural heritage, which needs UNESCO’s urgent protection.

It’s an energetic, dynamic and 39 excellent coordination(协调) among its players. The movements are intense and powerful, because those movements also formed the rhythm for the dance. Because beside the sound of claps, chest slapping or hand hitting the floor there’s only one person reading a narrative in Acehnese tone. If it’s not powerful then nobody will 40 anything and if it’s out of control, not only will it 41 the rhythm but somebody may get hurt. However, those are the charm of this dance.

Eight to twenty male performers kneel in a row on the floor and make different kinds of chest movements 42 by songs, clapping hands, slapping chests, slapping hands on the floor, etc. The songs are usually about religion. The dance starts with 43 movements and increases its pace gradually to great speed and finally come to a sudden 44 . There are many different regional versions of “Saman”.

Currently, Saman is performed not only related to the birthday of Prophet Muhammad or other Islamic holidays but it is also performed to promote Acehnese 45 , so it’s performed to open cultural festivals, national ceremonies or even abroad to 46 Indonesia as a whole. It performed not only by students from Indonesia, but from various countries. Now, Saman is

also performed by women.

What is great art? On the one hand, we can all see that great art is old art which is called great. But how do we know which art of our own 48 is great, and which will be forgotten? And who decides?

These are important questions, because the great art of the past often was not considered great during its own times. When Shakespeare and Charles Dickens were writing, for example, most critics considered them as hack (平庸的) writers with little or no literary 49 .

Similarly, Van Gogh and many of the other Impressionist painters were not allowed to 50 events involving what were thought to be the "real" painters of the times, and often they were very poor. Yet today their paintings often sell for millions of dollars, while those so-called "real" painters are now barely 51 .

So what makes great art? Can rock music be great art? Music videos? Those who call themselves 52 of the fine arts often have been the last to recognize great art in the past, and we can probably expect this to be the situation today.

Many works have one or 53 two of these qualities of being popular, unusual, and beautiful. But having all the three often will mean that a work of art will someday be seen to be great, though it may 54 a good spoonful of time, such as a century or two, to know 55 .

48. A. years B. colleagues C. writers D. times

49. A. time B. opportunity C. chance D. ability

50. A. participate in B. take part C. attend in D. live in

52. A. writers B. critics C. painters D. artists

53. A. almost B. nearly C. just D. even

54. A. cost B. spend C. pay D. take

55. A. for example B. namely C. that is D. for sure.

第三部分:阅读理解(共20小题;每小题2分,满分40分)阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项A、B、C和D中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑。

Little did I know that I was about to see something I would never forget at the Kentucky Association of School Administrators.

They introduced the young musician—Mr. Patrick Henry Hughes. He was rolled onto the stage in his wheelchair and began to play the piano. His fingers danced across the keys as he made beautiful music.

About ten minutes into Patrick's performance, someone came on the stage and said, “I’d like to share a seven-minute video about Patrick Henry Hughes.” Then the lights went dim.

Patrick Henry Hughes was born with no eyes and a tightening of the joints, which left him crippled for life. However, he was fitted with artificial eyes and placed in a wheelchair. Before his first birthday, he discovered the piano. His mom said, “I could hit any note on the piano, and within one or two tries, he’d get it.” By his second birthday, he was playing records people asked for. His father was ecstatic. “We might not play baseball, but we can play music together.”

Today, Patrick is a junior. His father attends classes with him and he’s made nearly all A’s. He’s also a part of the 214-member marching band. He's a blind, wheelchair-bound trumpet player; and he and his father do it together. In order to attend Patrick’s classes and every band practice, his father works the night shift at United Parcel Service. Patrick says, “My dad’s my hero.”

On stage, between songs, Patrick talked to the audience about his life and about how blessed he was, “God made me blind and unable to walk. BIG DEAL! He gave me musical gifts and the great opportunit y to meet new people.”

When his performance was over, the crowd rose to their feet and cheered for over five minutes.

Solar power comes from the energy of our Sun, a yellow star located 93 million miles from the Earth. It is a middle-aged, mid-size star compared to the billions of other stars in the universe.

The inside of the Sun is a region very high in temperature and filled with dense gases. The Sun's core(核心) is estimated to be about 27 million degrees Fahrenheit(华氏温度). Heat and light from the Sun are produced through a process called nuclear fusion(核聚变).

Sunlight is an excellent energy source and the future of using solar power is very exciting. The Sun's energy can be used to heat and cool buildings, make electricity, operate communication and navigation systems and even power solar cars, like the ones in the General Motors Solar Car Sunrayce featured in the Newton's Apple segment!

Solar-powered cars all get their fuel from the same place—the Sun. The cars use hundreds of photovoltaic(光电的) cells to change sunlight into electricity. Each cell produces about one-half volt of electricity.

When the Sunrayce teams design their electrical systems they have to allow for variations in sunlight. The Sun's energy powers the car's motor and charges a battery for use when the Sun is hidden by a cloud. If a car is designed to put all of its energy toward driving and keeps nothing in reserve, it will stop completely in cloudy weather. If too much energy is stored in the battery, the engine runs too slowly to keep up in the race.

Engineers and scientists still have many questions and problems to solve before solar power becomes an efficient and economical way to fuel vehicles. But as the demand on fossil fuel resources increases, research will continue to search for alternative energy sources,

including using the Sun's energy to drive a vehicle. The most exciting part of using solar power as an energy source is that it is pollution free and endless. If research continues, one day solar energy may replace today's cars!

60. According to the passage, what contributes to the Sun’s high temperature is its_____.

A. special position

B. middle age

C. dense gases

D. nuclear fusion

61. We can use the Sun’s energy in many ways EXCEPT ______.

A. when we feel cold enough

B. when electricity is needed

C. when the building is hot

D. when communication and navigation systems break down.

62. What’s the author’s attitude towards the future of solar power?

A. Worried.

B. Disappointed

C. Hopeful

D. Serious.

63. The purpose of this passage is to_______.

A. explain what solar power is

B. give a brief introduction to the sun

C. discuss the solar-powered cars

D. think highly of engineers and scientists

C

China was predicted to become the world’s top smartphone market by the end of 2012, overtaking the US, according to https://www.sodocs.net/doc/c618508507.html, ,Surprised? You shouldn’t be. Just take a look around the next time you’re on the subw ay or riding the bus: It seems that just about everyone these days is busily tapping away on their phones, playing games and sending e-mails.

For technology companies, smartphones are the biggest business around. Apple’s iPhone is worth more than some of the largest companies in the world, including Microsoft. But it’s not just the corporations making money. The smartphone boom has also provided opportunities for people to make and sell their own apps.

Nick D’Aloisio, just 17 years old, hit the news headlines in November for making a brand new app for reading news, called Summly, which cleverly uses equations to turn stories into short summaries. It shot up to number nine in the charts just two hours after its release in the US. But he’s not the only young person seizing this opportunity.

So where will smartphones go next? A lot of new ideas have been proposed. Google, for example, has recently shown off a type of smartphone you can actually wear like a pair of glasses. If successfully, this new product promises to pave a new future for communicating. However, there are others who argue that smartphone makers have reached a limit in revolutionary ideas. Either way, there’s no sure way of predicting the future. After all, who can tell when a groundbreaking idea might hit them?

But perhaps there are bigger questions than this.

“I fear the day that technology will surpass our human interaction,” Albert Einstein once said, “The world will have a generation of idiots.”

This statement is beginning to ring true. If our grandparents had been told that in the year 2012 everyone would walk around looking at computers in their hands, would they have believed it?

In an ever-connected world of social networks, have we actually become unsociable? Is the fascinations turning into a dangerous addiction? There are certainly positive and negative aspects of the smartphone culture. We hope you enjoy this exploration into some of them.

64. With the example of Nick D’Aloiso, the author intends to tell us that _______.

A. the smartphone boom has inspired many people to make apps and succeed

B. the new app for reading news has been well received since its release

C. there is an increasing demand for news reading with the popularity of smartphones

D. many corporations and people earn money by making and selling apps for smartphones

65. What is one of the bigger questions facing us in the era of smartphones according to the last

two paragraphs?

A. Overuse of technology.

B. The limit in revolutionary ideas.

C. The loss of human interaction.

D. Trouble with new ways of communication.

66. What’s the main idea of the fourth paragraph?

A. The future of smartphones.

B. The limit of smartphones.

C. The function of smartphones.

D. The creation of smartphones.

67. What’s the meaning of Albert Einstein’s words?

A. Our generation is foolish.

B. He was afraid that humans would not be good at thinking as technology developed.

C. Our humans like interacting.

D. Technology is very important.

D

If you are asked to list some images related to universities, the long black gown (长袍) may well be one thing. Yes, it is the mark of graduation. But have you ever thought of wearing something really special when you finish your four-year study?

It seems that some students at Peking University can’t wait. They are holding a design contest for the graduation costumes. Hanfu, the pre-17th century traditional dress of the Han Chinese, has the edge because of its popularity among students. There are already several student clubs in the university started to promote Hanfu. Wide sleeves, crossed collar-bands,

layered robes and a belt are the central features of the Hanfu.

“If the new design proves a success, we could introduce it in other universities,”the university’s Communist Youth League director Han Liu said.

However, no matter which design finally wins out, the contest reflects the revival of traditional Chinese culture, according to Li Zhisheng, a professor of history at Peking University.

The selected costumes will be displayed at this year’s graduation ceremony on July 3. Scholars and students have been asking if Chinese people should wear traditional clothes on important occasions, such as graduation ceremonies. Recently some scholars suggested that waitresses on important occasions should wear traditional Chinese clothes.

“Why should Chinese students wear western gowns while receiving their degrees?” said SuiYue, a sophomore of the university.

For the new generation of children social networking websites such as Facebook, Twitter and MySpace are among the most common activities and, in fact, a way of life. About 30 percent of kids aged between 8 and 12 years have managed to create accounts on such websites despite regulations according to which the users must be at least 13 years of age.

Any website that allows social interaction is considered a social media site, including video sites such as YouTube, social networking sites such as Facebook, MySpace, and Twitter,

and video gaming sites such as Club Penguin, Second Life, and the Sims. These types of websites offer young generation an opportunity for entertainment as well as seem to be the newest way of communication with one another. In the past couple of years such sites have grown exponentially(呈指数地), in particular, the largest one, Facebook, which recently hit the 1,000,000,000-membership mark. The average number of Facebook daily registrations varies between 250,000 and 300,000 worldwide.

However, many children, being the most vulnerable users of social media websites, are happily unaware of all potential dangers and risks associated with such sites, including pedophiles (恋童癖者), for example, who use Internet in order to lure(引诱) their young victims. For this reason, it is critical that parents become aware of the nature of social networking websites, given that not all of them are healthy environments for the kids. It is crucial that parents are aware of and monitor children for the most common problems, such as cyber bullying, "Facebook depression," and exposure to inappropriate content.

Despite online dangers, another big concern for psychologists is a research according to which social networking websites such as Facebook and Twitter are altering children's brains. The research, conducted by Baroness Greenfield, a professor of pharmacology at Oxford University and the director of the Royal Institution of Great Britain, came to the conclusion that social media is "infantilizing"(使幼儿化)the minds of young kids, and that participation in social networking sites makes children more self-centered and reduces their attention spans. In addition, children's behavior is being affected as well. At an age when a child is still developing, face-to-face social interaction with other children is being substituted with online interactions. Psychologists worry that an imbalance of social development could eliminate vital child development skills which are acquired during face-to-face socializing.

72. Which of the following is not the video gaming site?

A. Clib Penguin.

B. Second Life.

C. The Sims.

D. Facebook.

73. What can we learn from the second paragraph?

A. The largest one, Facebook is developing very quickly.

B. Children like Facebook very much.

C. Facebook has a great effect on children.

D. Children can learn a lot of knowledge from video gaming sites.

74. What should parents do as children are the most affected users of social media websites?

A. Parents should watch over children when they surf the Internet.

B. Parents should get to know something about these sites.

C. Parents should know and control the most common problems and exposure to improper

contents to children.

D. Parents should know children.

75. Which of the following is TRUE according to the text?

A. Children’s behavior is not being affected by social networking websites.

B. Although there are dangers online, social networking websites are changing children’s

brains.

C. The face-face social interaction with other children is never being substituted with online

interactions.

D. An imbalance of social development could impossibly eliminate vital child development

skills gained during face-to-face socializing.
