The population of the world continues to increase, but in some areas the population is falling. This is true in Europe and especially in Eastern Europe. In Russia, the population is going down by about 100 people EVERY HOUR! Russia's population could fall by ONE THIRD by the year 2050! And in Poland (波兰) the population is also going down because people are leaving to work in other countries.

One of the main reasons is a change of lifestyle. All over Europe people, especially educated

women, have a different attitude(态度) to children than their parents. "I have one child and she is enough for me," said Galina Tereschkova, a doctor from Moscow. "My husband and I both work full—time. We can't imagine having more than one child." Many women decide to have children later in life or not to have children at all. "I don't want to have any children until I have worked for at least 10 years," said 19-year-old student Hana Markova from Prague. Her opinion is typical of 18~24 year old women everywhere in Europe.

In Poland, the population is going down for a different reason. A lot of people, usually aged between 20 and 30, are leaving the country to work abroad. Poland joined the European Union in 2005 and since then more than half a million people have moved to Britain, Germany, Spain and Italy. Even so, the population of those four countries and many other countries in West Europe is also going down.

Many governments are now encouraging people to have larger families. In France, women now receive nearly $1,000 a month for a year if they have a third child. Austrian women receive $700 a month for three years when they have their first child.

(1)Where in the world is the population getting smaller?

(2)How many children does Galina Tereschkova want to have?

(3)What does Hana Markova want to do before she has children?

(4)Why is the population in Poland going down?

(5)How does the French government encourage people to have larger families now?

(1)In Europe and especially in Eastern Europe.

(2)One.

(3)She wants to work for at least 10 years.

(4)Because a lot of people, usually aged between 20 and 30, are leaving Poland to work abroad./ The change of lifestyle.

(5)By giving women nearly $1000 a month for a year if they have a third child.

We've been using banknotes for around 1,000 years. Back in the Northern Song Dynasty, Chinese people made the worlds earliest paper money to replace(代替)metal coins. These banknotes were called jiaozi.

But there are worries about creating cashless societies. Some say it is unfair to the poor and people without much education. It's not easy for them to open bank accounts(账户)or deal with mobile phones. And if all of your money is" digital, it may not be safe enough.

What can you do when someone hurts you? Most people may be angry or even fight with the one who hurts him or her. But it's not a good idea. The best way is to forgive him or her. Although it is not easy for us to forgive people who hurt us, it is possible. "Forgiveness makes people hopeful. And it is good for our health," says Fredric, Ph. D. the writer of the book called Forgive for God.

But how can we forgive others?

First, think of something beautiful and try to get yourself happy.

Second, don't wait for others to say sorry to you. If some people hurt you, they won't say sorry to you. They may just want to hurt you or they just don't see things the same way.

Third, try to see things in others' shoes. You can write a letter to yourself from the offender's (冒犯者)point. That can make you understand others better and make yourself happier.

At last, don't forget to forgive yourself. For some people, forgiving themselves is the biggest challenge(挑战). And it also makes you more confident.

Teaching your child to read can be one of the most rewarding(值得的)experiences you have as a parent.

________

Nothing can replace the head start(起步时的优势)that a child receives from becoming familiar(熟悉的) with books and the way that the written word sounds when reading aloud. If your child sees that reading is important to you, then he will be much more likely to want to learn how to read himself.

________

If your child shows interest in learning letters and looking through books, he may be ready to begin learning to read. Learning how to read cannot be rushed. If your child has no interest in

learning his letters, then wait a month or so and try again.

________

You can make this fun, such as saying "I see a [k]-[?]-[t]-cat" whenever you see a cat. The sound of a letter is much more important than a letter's name because the child will need to combine the letter sounds to make words.

________

Some children learn their letters faster by seeing or hearing them, while other children learn letters by using their bodies. Encourage your child to draw the letter and then paste pictures of something that begins with that sound onto the letter. Sing songs about the letter. Read your child a story that repeatedly uses that letter sound.

________

Rather than try to teach a child 26 new letters at one time, focus on one letter a day or a week. This enables the child to master each letter sound and feel proud of himself/herself for doing so.

A. Show your child your love for reading.

B. Make sure your child is ready to begin learning how to read.

C. Focus on one letter at a time.

D. Teach your child the sound of each letter.

E. Use sight, sound and touch as you teach each letter.

If your child sees that reading is important to you, then he will be much more likely to want to learn how to read himself.

If your child shows interest in learning letters and looking through books, he may be ready to begin learning to read. The sound of a letter is much more important than a letter's name because the child will need to combine the letter sounds to make words.

Some children learn their letters faster by seeing or hearing them, while other children learn letters by using their bodies.

Rather than try to teach a child 26 new letters at one time, focus on one letter a day or a week.
