Introduction

Overview

These installation notes contain instructions on how to install Tecplot Focus and the Tecplot License Manager. In order to complete the installation pro-cess, you must have a basic understanding of file editing, directory naviga-tion, path names, environment variables, and aliases. If you are unfamiliar with any of these topics, please ask your System Administrator for assistance. The Tecplot Focus installation is now on a DVD. Please be sure to insert this DVD into your DVD drive. If you do not have a DVD drive, please contact Technical Support to obtain a CD or downloadable version.1

Installing the Tecplot License Manager

Tecplot Focus Version 2008 includes a license manager powered by FLEX-net TM. This Tecplot License Manager (TLM) allows network administrators to ‘float’ licenses anywhere on a network, and it allows users to ‘borrow’ and ‘return’ these network licenses.

Installation of the Tecplot License Manager is separate from installation of Tecplot Focus. If you have a Network or Site license, installation of the TLM must be performed by the System Administrator before you can run Tecplot Focus.

Please see the Section “License Manager Installation” on page23 for instruc-tions on how to install and configure the Tecplot License Manager.

The steps for installing the TLM on the network server are provided in the Section “Installing the TLM on Macin-tosh/Linux Platforms” on page26.

You will need to configure the tecplotlm.lic file on your local machine to communicate with the server. The tecplotlm.lic file is located in your Tecplot Focus installation directory, /Applications/TecFocus_2008. This file must include your server name and port number. Apple's X11 for the Mac OS X server does not treat the Command or Option key as an Alt key. To assign the Command or Option key as an Alt key, add the following line to /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc file:

xmodmap -e "keycode 66 = Alt_L"

This change will take effect when the X server is restarted. You should also

be able to type the xmodmap command in at a terminal window.
