Students at Baoding-based Hebei University have gathered online to demand severe punishment for the drunken driver who bragged(吹嘘) that he is the son of a police official after being accused of killing a girl and knocking down another in a hit-and-run on Saturday.

“Sue(起诉) me if you can ... my father is Li Gang!” the driver reportedly said. The 22-year-old driver's threats, directed at security guards and students who stopped him from fleeing the scene, have come under attack on the university's online forum.

Li Gang was later identified by China News Service as deputy director of the public security bureau of Beishi district of Baoding city in North China's Hebei province. Li Qiming,

the driver, has been placed under criminal detention(刑事拘留)for traffic offense. According to a statement that the Baoding public security bureau released on Monday night, the driver was drunk while driving the car. The statement did not make it clear Li Qiming is the son of Li Gang, but said: “Everyone is e qual before the law. No matter who the person is, the violator will receive punishments strictly according to law.”

A black V olkswagen Magotan(大众迈腾) hit the girls on the Hebei University campus at about 9:40 p.m. on Saturday, according to the statement. The two girls were roller-skating and witnesses said they were thrown high in the air by the collision(冲撞)and were hit again when they fell on the car's windshield and mirror. The driver did not stop, but kept going and was intercepted by security guards and students near the school gate, according to the police statement. Surrounded by about 50 people and asked to step out of the car, the driver said aloud to the crowd without a sense of sorrow that he is the son of Li Gang, local media quoted witnesses as saying. Traffic police asserted he was drunken driving based on a blood sample.

One of the girls surnamed Chen, 20, from Shijiazhuang city of the province, died the day after the accident. Another girl suffered fractures in her left leg and remained hospitalized. Both are freshman students, local media reported.

D. Because the girl surnamed Chen asked him before she died.

63. Which of the following best describes Li Qiming?

The young boy saw me, or, he saw the car and quickly ran up to me, eager to sell his bunches of bananas and bags of peanuts. Though he appeared to be about twelve, he seemed to have already known the bitterness of life. “Banana 300 naira. Peanuts 200 naira.”

He said in a low voice. I bargained him down to 200 total for the fruit and nuts. When he agreed, I handed him a 500 naira bill. He didn’t have change, so I told him not to worry.

He said thanks and smiled a row of perfect teeth.

When, two weeks later, I saw the boy again. I was more aware of my position in a society

where it’s not that uncommon to see a little boy who should be in school standing on the corner selling fruit in the burning sun. My parents had raised me to be aware of the advantage we had been afforded and the responsibility it brought to us.

I pulled over and rolled down my window. He had a bunch of bananas and a bag of peanuts ready. I waved them away. “What’s up?” I asked him. “I…I don’t have money to buy books for school.” I reached into my pocket and handed him two fresh 500 naira bills.

“Will this help?” I asked. He looked around nervously before taking the money. One thousand naira was a lot of money to someone whose family probably made about 5,000 naira or less each year. “Thank you, sir,” he said. “Thank you very much.”

When driving home, I wondered if my little friend actually used the money for school-books. What if he’s a cheat? And then I wondered why I did it. Did I do it to make myself feel better? Was I using him? Later, I realized that I didn’t know his name or the least bit ab out him, nor did I think to ask.

Over the next six months, I was busy working in a news agency in Northern Nigeria. Sometime after I returned, I went out for a drive. When I was about to pull over, the boy suddenly appeared by my window with a big smile ready on his face.

“Oh, gosh! Long time.”

“Are you in school now?” I asked.

He nodded.

“That’s good.” I said. A silence fell as we looked at each other, and then I realized what he wanted. “Here,” I held out a 500 naira bill. “Take this.” He shook his h ead and stepped back as if hurt. “What’s wrong?” I asked. “It’s a gift.”

He shook his head again and brought his hand from behind his back. His face shone with sweat. He dropped a bunch of bananas and a bag of peanuts in the front seat before he said, “I’ve been waiting to give these to you.”

64. What was the author’s first impression of the boy?

A. He seemed to be poor and greedy.

B. He seemed to have suffered a lot.

C. He seemed younger than his age.

D. He seemed good at bargaining.

65.The third time the author met him, the boy ______.

A. told him his purpose of selling fruit and nuts.

B. wanted to express his thanks

C. asked him for money for his schoolbooks

D. tried to take advantage of him

66.Why did the author give his money to the boy?

A. Because he had enough money to do that.

B. Because he had learnt to help others since childhood.

C. Because he held a higher position in the society.

D. Because he had been asked by the news agency to do so.

67.Which of the following best describes the boy?

A. Brave and polite.

B. Kind and smart.

C. Honest and thankful.

D. Shy and nervous.

C

Some bad habits can actually turn out to be helpful. Though they may cause trouble most of the time, yet, there are those examples when they seem to fit the situation perfectly.

Some people have bad habits of pointing out others’ mistakes. They are always telling their friends or family members what they are doing wrong. It gets annoying for the person being picked on. Quite a bit of anger can build up over this.

However, there may come a time when they will actually point out the bad habit you have not realized before. They may stop you from making a huge mistake. You may be glad you hear their criticism(批评), however.

If you complain too much, people will tell you that you have too many bad habits. It does create a negative environment when someone is always seeing the worst in everything. However, sometimes the only times you can get anything done are when you complain.

Working too hard is generally a bad habit. It is bad for your relationships and it is bad for your health. You feel that you will not succeed unless you put in overtime. Mostly, this is not true. Yet, there are times when the extra work can pay off. This is true especially if you allow yourself to indulge(放纵) this bad habit for only the period of a short project.

Breaking the law almost always involves(涉及)bad habits. On the other hand, some of the world’s greatest heroes have broken the laws of their own countries.

They did it against laws they thought unfair or cruel. The world would be a different place if these people had been afraid of having these “bad habits”. That is why not all habits can be strictly labeled(标记) bad or good. It has to go by the situation.

68. The underlined phrase “picked on” in Paragraph 2 may mean “_____”.

A. criticized

B. praised

C. chosen

D. ignored

69. How many bad habits are discussed in the passage?

A. Three.

B. Four

C. Five

D. Six.

70. According to the author, whether a habit is bad or good depends on _____.

A. how many times it appears

B. who has formed the habit

C. when and where it happens

D. what kind of habit it is

71. The main idea of the passage is that ______.

A. it is hard to develop good habits

B. bad habits are difficult to get rid of

C. habits can be considered as bad and good

D. sometimes bad habits can be helpful

D

Successful people in international business understand the cultures of other countries and learn to change their practices in different cultures. They understand the importance of avoiding business decisions based on misconceptions—mistaken ideas.

One cause of misconceptions is ethnocentrism, the belief that one’s own culture’s way of doing things is better than the way of other cultures. It’s ethnocentrism that leads to failure in international business. To avoid ethnocentrism, it’s nece ssary to study the different elements(组成部分)of culture: language, values and attitudes, and customs and manners.

Language

A knowledge of the local language can help international business people in four ways. First, people can communicate directly. Second, people are usually more open in their communication with someone who speaks their language. Third, an understanding of the language allows people to infer meanings that are not said directly. Finally, knowing the language helps people to understand the culture better.

Values are people’s basic beliefs about the difference between right and wrong, good and bad. An attitude is a way of thinking or acting. Values and attitudes influence international business. For example, many people in the United States believe that chocolate from Switzerland is better than chocolate from other countries, and they buy a lot of it.

Customs and manners

Customs are common social practices. Manners are ways of acting that the society believes are polite. For example, in the United States, it is the custom to have salad (色拉)before the main course at dinner, not after. It’s not acceptable to talk with food in mouth at table. Failure to understand the customs and manners of other countries will bring difficulty selling their products. Orange juice as a breakfast drink of a n American company in France doesn’t sell well because the French don’t usually drink juice with breakfast.

72. A knowledge of the local language allows international business people _________.

A. to be more open with their customers

B. to communicate without outside help

C. to express their thoughts indirectly

D. to have a better idea of their own culture

73. The act of many people buying chocolate of Switzerland shows the role of ________.

A. manners

B. values

C. attitudes

D. customs

74. What would be the best title for the text?

A. Misconceptions in Business

B. Basic Beliefs in Business

C. International Business Culture

D. Successful International Business

75. The author’s purpose of writing this article is to tell people ___________.

A. how to take a right attitude in business

B. how to avoid misunderstandings in business

C. how to use a local language in business

D. how to act politely and properly in business

Li Hua and Wang Hai are two students of Senior Three. Both of them work hard but they have different learning methods.

Li Hua listens to her teachers attentively and asks her teachers for help as often as possible if she has some problems. Because of this, she spends less time doing her homework, so it is certain that she can keep energetic in the day. However, Wang Hai has quite a different way of learning. He likes to sit up late at night doing his homework, so he often feels sleepy in class. As a result, he misses lots of key points, which makes it difficult for him to concentrate on what he is doing.

In my opinion, Li Hua learns more effectively in class and has more free time to enjoy herself. So I prefer her learning method.

If you ever go into a house in Japan, you must remember to take off your shoes. These would damage the fine straw mats which cover the floors. These straw mats are called tatami.

The rooms in most Japanese houses have sliding doors instead of walls. You must pull one of these doors back if you want to go into a room.

The room you enter will usually be a large one. In the middle of the room there may be a low table with small flat cushions around it. Many Japanese houses have no other furniture in their rooms. Perhaps you will see a bowl of flowers or a long silk painting on one of the walls. Visitors are given a small cup of green tea.

You may be surprised to see that there are no bedrooms. The Japanese unroll their beds and put them on the floor when they feel tired.

2016-2017学年内蒙古乌兰察布市集宁一中西校区高二(下)期 末英语试卷 第一部分:阅读理解(共两节)第一节(满分30分)阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卡上将该项涂黑.1.(6分)Many countries follow special custos when a child's baby teeth fall out. Many of these customs tell stories about animals taking the teeth. In France and the USA,a child will put a fallen tooth under his or her pillow before going to bed.It is thought that in the early morning, when the child is still sleeping, the Tooth Fairy will take the tooth away and leave something else under the pillow. What she will leave is hard to know.It is said that in France the Tooth Fairy may leave some candies;however,in the United States, she may leave money. 1.In Vietnam,if a child's tooth falls out,he or she will. A.throw it onto the roof of a house B.feed it to a mouse C.put it in a piece of meat and feed the meat to a dog D.leave it to the Tooth Fairy 2.From the last paragraph,we can know that in France and the USA.

According to body language expert Robert Phipps, the way people sleep at night actually determines a lot about the type of personality they have. Phipps has identified four sleeping positions that affect personality. Phipps found that worriers, those who stress the most, tend to sleep in the fetal (胎儿的) position. He found that this is the most common bedtime position, with nearly 58 percent of people sleeping on their side with knees up and head down. The more we curl up (蜷曲), the more comfort we are seeking, according to Phipps. The second most common position is the log. Sleeping with a straight body, with arms at each side, as if they are standing guard at Buckingham Palace, indicates stubbornness, and these people (the 28 percent who sleep this way) often wake up stiffer than when they went to sleep. “The longer you sleep like this, the more rigid your thinking is and you can become inflexible, which means you make things harder for yourself,” according to Phipps. Yearner (向往) sleepers are next on the list. About 25 percent of people sleep in this style—on their side with arms stretched out in front, looking as if they are either chasing a dream or perhaps being chased themselves. Yearners are typically their own worst critics, always expecting the best results, explained Phipps. These people often wake up refreshed and eager to face the challenges of the day ahead. Perhaps the most peculiar (奇怪的) of sleep styles is the freefaller position. This sleep style makes up 17 percent of the population. They sleep face down with arms stretched out. These people, according to Phipps, feel like they have little control over their life. Not only is this the strangest of sleep styles, but also the least comfortable, and people may wake up feeling tired and have no energy. Inconclusion, Phipps has only one more thing to add: “A good night's sleep set you up for the following day and our sleeping positions can determine how we feel when we wake.” (1)Which sleeping position indicates that the sleeper tends to seek perfection? A、The fetal position. B、The log position. C、The yearner position. D、The freefaller position. (2)Which of the following can be the best title of the passage? A、A good night's sleep sets you up for the following day B、Your personality depends a lot on how you sleep at night C、How you sleep at night affects what you do the next day D、Which sleeping position helps you sleep comfortably Our room was on the second floor but you could still hear the roar of the ocean and see the stars at night.

Where do you suppose I can find them?”
