Knowledge objects:

1.Be able to master the new words and phrases: square, meter, deep, desert, population, Asia, feel free, as far as I know,etc.

2.Be able to master key sentences: What’s the highest mountain in the world?

3.Be able to compare facts and figures.

Ability objects:

1.Be able to talk about geography and nature.

2.Be able to master the usage of the comparative and superlatives forms of adjectives and adverbs.

Moral objects:

Teach students to love our nature and protect our environment.

II.Teaching key and difficult points:

Learn to talk about the comparative and superlatives forms of adjectives and adverbs by using the target language.

III.Teaching methods

1.The situational teaching approach,task-based language teaching method.

2.Pair-work.

PPT, a tape recorder ,the blackboard

V.Teaching procedures:

Step 1: Lead-in

1.Greet the class as usual.

2.Ask students what favorite subject they like and lead to today's topic.

3.Watch the photos and talk about them ―How big/high/long/deep is …?’and help the students to answer these questions.

3. Look at these photos and practice the dialogue: e.g. A: How high is Qomolangma? B: It’s 8,844 meters high.

4.Learn the new knowledge of superlatives forms.

Step 2: Presentation

1.Do 1a. Match the facts you know.

2.Do some listening exercise.

3.Learn the new words.

Step 3: Practice

Group work: (T gives Ss 3minis to practice the conversation in two or four.)

A—What’s the highest mountain in the world、B—Qomolangma. It is 8,844.43meters high. It is higher than any other mountain in the world.

T checks the group work.

Step 4: Consolidate

1.Do some listening exercise.

2.Make conversations using the key structures.

3.Role-play the conversations.

Step 5: Summary

Sum up what we have learned today.

Step 6:Homework

Can you think of more examples to show" …is the most…in the world? " Compete with your classmates.
