Unit6 Go shopping

Lecture1 Buying and bargaining

Hi, everybody, I’m Rae.

嗨,大家好,我是Rae。

In this lesson, we are going to talk about shopping in English.

在本课中,我们将会讨论如何用英语购物。

Do you like shopping? Shopping can be a lot of fun, right?

你喜欢购物吗?购物很有趣,对吧?

Before we start learning, let’s watch a short video.

在我们开始学习之前,让我们看一段简短的视频。

In this video, a girl and a shop assistant are talking about buying clothes. 在这个视频中,一个女孩和一个店员正在谈论买衣服。

After watching this video, please answer the following questions.

观看此视频后,请回答以下问题。

Question number 1: What does the girl want to buy?

问题1:女孩想买什么?

Question number 2: What size is the girl looking for?

问题2:女孩需要多大码的衣服?

Question number 3: How would the girl like to pay?

问题3:这个女孩想要怎么付钱?

Ok, let’s check your answers.

好的,我们来看看答案。

1.What does the girl want to buy? She wants to buy a T-shirt.

这个女孩想要买什么?她想买一件T恤。

2. What size is the girl looking for? She is looking for a medium size. 这个女孩需要多大码的衣服?她需要中码的。

3. How would the girl like to pay? She wants to pay with cash.

这个女孩想如何付钱?她想用现金支付。

When you go shopping, what do you want when you arrive at a shop? 当你去购物时,到达商店你想要买什么东西?

How do you explain what you are looking for to a shop assistant?

你如何用英语向店员描述你想要的东西?

I n this video, the girl said “I’m looking for a T-shirt.”

在这段视频中,女孩说:“我想寻找一件T恤。”

so you can use the sentence “I’m looking for a/an with a single noun” 所以你可以使用句子“I'm looking for+不定冠词+单数名词”

or “I’m looking for with a plural noun”.

或“I'm looking for+复数名词”

P lural noun means regular nouns take an “s” in the plural form.

复数名词一般是指普通名词后加S构成复数形式

When you are talking about just one of something

当谈论一件东西时且这个东西是可数名词时

you’ll need to use this article “a/an”.

我们会使用不定冠词“a/an”.

We use “a” before consonant sounds and “an” before vowel sounds.

我们在辅音之前使用“a”,在元音之前使用“an”。

The sentence is a basic way to explain what you are looking for.

这个句型是我们在用英语描叙我们需要的东西时常用的基本句型。You can say “I’m looking for a sweater”,

你可以说“我正在寻找一件毛衣”,

“I’m looking for an eyeliner”

“我正在寻找一个眼线笔”

and “I’m looking for shoes” or something.

和“我正在寻找鞋子”或其他东西。

You can use this in response to a question from a shop assistant.

您可以使用这一句型来回答店员提出的问题。

A shop assistant will often ask you something like this

店员经常会问你这样的问题

“Can I help you find anything?”

“我能帮你找你需要的东西吗?”

If you don’t need anything you can say “No, I’m ok.”

如果你不需要任何东西,你可以说“不,我没事。”

If you find something you like,

如果你找到自己喜欢的东西,

you can use the expression “Can I try this on?”.

你可以使用“我可以试试这个吗?”这一表达。

This is especially for clothes.

尤其你是你在找到自己喜欢的衣服时。

When you find a shirt or a watch you like

当你找到自己喜欢的衬衫或手表时

you can ask the shop assistant “Can I try this on?” 你可以问店员“我可以试试吗?”

If you want to find something in your size or color, 如果你想找适合你尺寸或颜色的东西

here is one pattern you can use

你可以使用这样的句型

and there are a few ways to change the pattern

这个句型也可以有一些变体。

you can say “Do you have this in [size]/[color]?”. 你可以说“有……尺寸或……颜色的么?”

So let’s imagine you’re trying on a shirt

让我们想象你正在试穿一件衬衫

and you realize the size doesn’t fit you,

而你意识到尺寸不适合你,

you can ask the shop assistant

你可以问店员

“Do you have this in a small/medium/large size?” “这个你们有小号/中号/大号的吗?”

or “Do you have this in an extra small/extra large size?”.或者“你们这里这个有特小号/特大号吗?”

A small size means 小号,

A small size意思是小号

a medium size means 中号,

a medium size意思是中号

a large size means 大号,

a large size意思是大号

an extra small size means 特小号,

an extra small size意思是特小号

an extra large size means特大号.

an extra large size意思是特大号

We usually use an article before size.

我们经常会在表示大小的英文词前使用冠词

You could change your color if you want.

如果需要,您可以更改颜色。

You can say “Do you have this in blue?”

你可以说“这个有蓝色的么?”

or “Do you have this in red?”

或者说“这个有红色的么?”

but notice with color there is no article here.

但是注意颜色词前是不用冠词的.

Ok, let’s continue to talk about price and payment.

好吧,我们继续谈论价格和付款。

In most shops, you’ll probably notice the price is clearly displayed

在大多数商店,您可能会注意到价格都是有清晰地标识的

like there is a price tag on something

比如某件商品上会有价格标签

so you probably won’t need to ask these questions a lot but just in case. 所以你可能不需要经常问这些问题我们学习相关的英文表达只是为了以防万一.

This is the basic way to do it.

最基本的表达是

“How much is this/that?

“这个/那个多少钱?

This is the pattern for singular nouns.

当我们所询问的东西是单数时我们可以用这一表达.

This thing is close to me and that thing is far away from me.

当我们询问较近的一件东西时用this,较远的用that

Y ou can also say “How much is the coat?”

你也可以问“这件外套多少钱?”

If you’re talking about something there are two or more,

如果你在谈论的东西是两个或两个以上

use “are these” or “are those”

可以使用“are these” or “are those”

so this is for plural nouns.

这是物品是复数时的用法

Let’s look at the ne xt sentence.

我们来看下一句。

These are 50% off.

这些都是50%的折扣。

50% is half price in other words.

换句话说,50%是半价。

You will see 20% off, 40%off, 80%off.

您会看到20%的折扣,40%的折扣,80%的折扣这样的英文表达Off means removed from the price.

Off这里的意思为减价。

After you checked the price and you learned the price,

在你知道并核实了价格后

how do you express that you are ready to buy the item?

如果你准备买,如何用英语表达呢?

You can use something like this.

你可以使用这样的句型

Ok, can I have [number] of these?

这些我可以要……个么?

For example, “Can I have two of these?”.

例如:这些我可以要两个么?

Another expression you can use is “Ok, I’d like [number], please.” 另外一个表达方式是“好的,我想要……个

For example, “Ok I’d like 20, please.”

例如“我想要20个,请给我20个

so this is an easy way to express your decision.

这是用英语表达你购买意愿的简单方式

When you decide to pay, there are two patterns that you can use. 当您决定付款时,您可以使用两种句型。

First, you can use this one.

首先,你可以使用这个。

“I’ll pay with cash.” or “I’ll pay in cash.”

“我会用现金支付。”或“我会以现金支付。”

You can use with or in here.

这里你可以使用with或in这两个介词

There is no difference in meaning.

在含义上基本没有区别.

If you are not using cash, you can say “I’ll use a credit card.”

如果您不使用现金支付,你可以说“我要使用信用卡支付。”

or “I’ll use WeChat pay.”

或者“我要使用微信支付。”

Ok, I’d like to finish today’s lesson by talking about bargaining.

好的,我想通过谈论讨价还价的英文表达来结束今天的课程。Bargaining is a part of our culture.

讨价还价是我们的文化特色。

People are usually happy to buy something at a bargain price,

人们通常乐意买价格便宜的东西,

and you can do it in small local shops.

在一些小商店里你可以讨价还价.

I want you to notice that we have the expressions about bargaining in English,

我希望你们注意英语中有讨价还价相关的表达方式

but it’s not a part of British culture or American culture to bargain a lot. 但是这不是英国或美国的文化特色

If you want to ask for a discount you can use something like this:

如果你想砍价你可以使用这样的句型

How about plus your price suggestion.

How about+你想出的价格

For example you can say “How about $50?”

例如,你可以说“50美元怎么样?”

You can use this very direct way to try to get a discount.

你可以使用这种直接的方式来讨价还价.

If you want to get a discount for a group,

如果你买了一堆东西,你想要折扣

you can say “How about 2 for $40?”

你可以说“两个40美金怎么样?”

or “How about 6 for $80?”.

或“6个80美金怎么样?”

The pattern is “How about [number] for [price].

这个句型是“how about +个数+for+价格”

Number here means the number of items you want.

Number就是你想要的商品的个数

You can also use “Can you give me a discount?”

你也可以使用“你能给我打个折么?”

or “Can I have a discount?”

或“我能得到折扣么?”

Ok, after learning the expressions, let’s do a practice.

好的,在学习了这些表达之后,让我们来做一个练习。

Mary is traveling in New York.

玛丽正在纽约旅行。

She is at a small local shop and she wants to buy a sweater

她在当地一家小商店购物,她想买一件毛衣

but she doesn’t know how to explain what she wants to buy in English.但她不知道如何用英语表达她想买的东西。

Please help her complete the dialogue.

请帮助她完成对话。

Now let’s check your answers.

现在让我们来核对一下答案。

The answer for the first one is G. I’m looking for a sweater. 第一个问题的答案是G.我正在找一件毛衣。

The second one is A. I need a medium size.

第二个是A.我需要一件中号的。

The third is F. Can I try it on?

第三个是F.我可以试一下吗?

The fourth is B. How much is it?

第四是B.多少钱?

The next is E. Can you give me a discount?

接下来是E.你能给我个折扣吗?

Then it’s D. I’ll take it.

下面一个是D.这件我要了

The last one is C. I’ll pay with cash.

最后一个是C. 我要用现金支付

How many did you get right?

你们答对了多少呢?

OK, that’s it for this lesson.

好的,我们这节课就到这里.

Let’s end our class with a song.

最后让我们来听一首歌吧

Please enjoy it. Bye.

Dudley & Stephens, the lifeboat case, the case of cannibalism at sea.And with the arguments about the lifeboat in mind, the arguments for and against what Dudley and Stephens did in mind, let's turn back to the philosophy, the utilitarian philosophy of Jeremy Bentham.Bentham was born in England in 1748.At the age of 12, he went to Oxford. At 15, he went to law school. He was admitted to the Bar at age 19 but he never practiced law.Instead, he devoted his life to jurisprudence and moral https://www.sodocs.net/doc/ee4197497.html,st time, we began to considerBentham's version of utilitarianism. The main idea is simply stated and it's this:The highest principle of morality, whether personal or political morality,is to maximize the general welfare,or the collective happiness,or the overall balance of pleasure over pain;in a phrase, maximize utility.Bentham arrives at this principle by the following line of reasoning:We're all governed by pain and pleasure, they are our sovereign masters, and so any moral system has to take account of them. How best to take account?By maximizing. And this leads to the principle of the greatest good for the greatest number. What exactly should we maximize?Bentham tells us happiness,or more precisely, utility -maximizing utility as a principle not only for individuals but also for

哈佛大学公开课《公正:该如何做是好》:全五课:英文字幕

THE MORAL SIDE OF MURDER This is a course about justice and we begin with a story. Suppose you're the driver of a trolley car, and your trolley car is hurtling down the track at 60 miles an hour. And at the end of the track you notice five workers working on the track. You try to stop but you can't, your brakes don't work. You feel desperate because you know that if you crash into these five workers, they will all die. Let's assume you know that for sure. And so you feel helpless until you notice that there is, off to the right, a side track and at the end of that track, there is one worker working on the track. Your steering wheel works, so you can turn the trolley car, if you want to, onto the side track killing the one but sparing the five. Here's our first question: what's the right thing to do? What would you do? Let's take a poll. How many would turn the trolley car onto the side track? Raise your hands. How many wouldn't? How many would go straight ahead? Keep your hands up those of you who would go straight ahead. A handful of people would, the vast majority would turn. Let's hear first, now we need to begin to investigate the reasons why you think it's the right thing to do. Let's begin with those in the majority who would turn to go onto the side track. Why would you do it? What would be your reason? Who's willing to volunteer a reason? Go ahead. Stand up. Because it can't be right to kill five people when you can only kill one person instead. It wouldn't be right to kill five if you could kill one person instead. That's a good reason. That's a good reason. Who else? Does everybody agree with that reason? Go ahead. Well I was thinking it's the same reason on 9/11 with regard to the people who flew the plane into the Pennsylvania field as heroes because they chose to kill the people on the plane and not kill more people in big buildings. So the principle there was the same on 9/11. It's a tragic circumstance but better to kill one so that five can live, is that the reason most of you had, those of you
