When four-year-old Finlay suffered a stroke as a baby and developed cerebral palsy,a disease usually caused by brain damage, doctors said he'd have to stay in a wheelchair in his entire life. But amazingly,he has managed to prove them all wrong with the help of a young duck.

Finlay's breakthrough came when his mother Becci,29,took in a tiny yellow duck named Ming-Ming,after a farmer friend told her it was going to be killed because of its injured leg.

“When Ming-Ming lay down or sat down, his leg was right up near his head and he was unable to walk,”Becci explains.“I was trying to find a vet who knew about ducks. At first I didn't think he'd make it—I felt very sorry.”After an extensive search,Becci found a suitable vet,who fitted the young duck with a tiny splint(夹板).It began to move around the house as its leg strengthened.

As the little duck made an amazing recovery, something else like a miracle occurred.Young Finlay—whose condition affected his brain's ability to send signals to his body-was so impressed by his new pet's progress that he began copying his steps, saying,“I walk like the duck,Mummy.”

Becci was so over joyed that she couldn't believe her eyes.“Finlay has been having physical therapy his whole life but he never really responded until we got the duckling,”she says.“As soon as Ming-Ming began walking,so did Finlay.I was full of pride.”

Now Finlay can walk five meters at a time with the help of a walker and he loves walking slowly with his best friend.“Finlay is now much stronger and it's great to see him walking.I've told him that if he works hard, one day he'll be able to take Ming-Ming for walks on the street. That is what he's really working towards.”Becci says, smiling.“I'd been told Finlay might never be able to walk. It's amazing to watch my child taking steps gradually-thanks to Ming-Ming.”

Stress is a major part of life.Contrary to popular belief, stress can actually come from almost every situation whether they bring excitement, happiness, sadness or anxiety. On the other hand, many simple ways can be used to reduce the danger of stress.

The effect of stress on the body depends on its intensity (强度).In small quantities, stress can be a source of productivity and motivation. However, too much of it could result in depression, heart disease and infection. It is also said to be one of the causes of overeacting.

The fast-paced world is filled with the pressures of work and the demands of living increase stress. In recent years as people are made to believe that using spa services is the only effective way to reduce stress, the spa businesses have been a booming industry. However, here are some simple ways in which you could deal with stress without much cost.

Talk about what causes the stress.Talking about problems and sources of anxiety is a great way to release the burden of having to deal with a stressful day.It not only removes stress, but it improves your social life and keeps you in touch with friends and family.

Keep a journal and write about your feelings. There are some people who might not be that comfortable sharing their emotions with others no matter how close they are to that person. When this is the case, journal writing is the

way to go.

Laugh at short funny jokes.Studies show that 40% of the people who have heart diseases are less likely to laugh.Funny as it may seem, laughter is one of the cheapest and easiest ways to relieve stress.Joking around with friends and watching funny films or TV shows are cheap and fun ways to reduce stress.

Stress may be part of everyday living, but that doesn't necessarily mean letting it take over your life.Paying attention to the positive is one solution. After all, stress is not what occurs;it's how one reacts to it.

Many people are wondering what future cities will look like.If I were to look into my crystal ball, what I would see is that future cities will be clean, green and full of optimism and hope.

The cities will be cleaner and greener because of solar and hydrogen(氢)energy.Hydrogen trains will be powered by solar energy that electrolyzes(电解)water for fuel cells. They will most typically be passenger trains, taking people around the future cities.

The future cities will also be heavily equipped with solar panels (太阳能电池板).There will be solar panels on the rooftops of almost every building and the windows of each building will double as solar panels as well.

In the cities of the future, every building will have smart technology. The smart technology will distribute and

conserve energy through the building where it is needed most. Also, many buildings using solar energy will produce more electricity than they consume. They will be tied into the smart network, selling power back, and the smart grid will redistribute the energy to sections of the state and country where it is needed most.

The cities will also be equipped with huge balloons filled with algae(海藻)to produce hydrogen. This hydrogen will then either be run through stationary fuel cells to provide energy or be used as fuel for cars. And,of course what would a future city be without a future car for every driver? These future cars will run on hydrogen, electricity,or even air. There may even be a few future flying cars that sail above traffic during rush hour.

All the above are based on emerging technology that is available now. Therefore,it is highly likely that such cities will become a reality.

Anger is a natural response to feeling attacked, injured or violated. It's part of human being;it's energy seeking expression. Our anger can be our friend. It helps us survive, giving us the strength to fight back or run away when attacked or faced with injustice. In itself it's neither good nor bad,but it can be frightening.

Angry feelings can lead to destructive and violent behavior, and so we tend to be frightened of anger. The way we are brought up,and our cultural background, will very much influence how we feel about expressing anger. When something makes you angry, you feel excitement in your body and emotions.Your glands (腺) are pumping your blood full of the hormone (荷尔蒙) adrenalin (肾上腺素),preparing for fight. You are full of energy, alert, ready for action.

As long as the build-up of tension is usually released in action or words, you should be able to cope with feeling frustrated occasionally! But if,as a role, you have to bottle up your feelings, the energy has to go somewhere. It may turn inwards and cause you all sorts of problems.Suppressed (压制) anger can have very negative effects, physically and mentally.

答案:

How to deal with anger?

Anger is part of human's emotion, which sometimes can cause destructive results.Meanwhile, it may help us seek right and justice.Actually, anger itself is neither fault nor right. The key point is how we treat it.

As we know,it is true that in our modern society people tend to lose temper frequently and easily. We can see people arguing in the street, couples quarreling at home and students fighting over some trifles. Many doctors believe that anger is very harmful to people's health. So how to cope with anger becomes a big concern for us.

And we have figured out many ways to deal with anger.Firstly, you should identify the real cause of your anger. Then you will be aware of whether the cause deserves you to get angry.Secondly, you may make self-comfort when you are in trouble.Thirdly, you should talk to others and take advice from others. As far as I'm concerned, I will try to control my temper and not let my temper do any harm although I feel very angry sometimes.

A My little brother and sister were always saying that I was bossy (爱发号施令的). And it wasn't until I met a very bossy person that I understood how they felt! My school was holding a fundraiser (募捐活动) called the Spring Fling Fair, and everyone was going to help out. I was pretty excited about it. There were lots of committees to choose from, and I chose games and activities, which sounded like fun. But every time we got together, a guy named Peter did the same thing. He never seemed to realize that he was part of a team with three other people. At last, it was the day of the Spring Fling Fair, and we were all running around getting ready. “You need to make the horseshoes sign hang straighter,” Peter commanded. “Would you please do it yourself?”I said. “I'm kind of busy organizing the prizes.” “There are too many pink balloons on the wall,”Peter complained. “You should add more blue ones.” “Feel free to go ahead and add them,” Mike said. The best (or maybe the worst) example of Peter's bossiness happened when the Spring Fling Fair finally started. A cute little girl was fishing for a prize, and Peter grabbed (抢夺) the fishing pole right out of her hands! “You're holding it all wrong,” he told her. “Do it like this!” This little girl looked up at Peter, took a big breath, and said, “That may be the right way for you to do it, but it's not the right way for me.” And that was probably the best thing this little girl could have said. The good part of this experience is that it helped me understand how my brother and sister felt when I told them what to do and didn't stop to be polite or consider their feelings. Now I try to be more patient and less bossy, and we get along much better. 1.On the day of the Spring Fling Fair, Peter ________. A.had a great time B.kept giving orders C.was chosen as the leader D.was running around getting ready 2.When being bossed around by her schoolmate, the author ________. A.asked others to do the work B.did what she was told C.refused to obey

On the first day of my visit, we went out with one of my father’s friends for lunch at an outdoor café. We talked along that afternoon, did some shopping, ate on the street table, and laughed over my son’s funny facial expressions. Gone was my father’s critical (挑剔的) air and strict rules. Who was this person I knew as my father, who seemed so friendly and interesting to be around? What had held him back before? The next day dad pulled out his childhood pictures and told me quite a few stories about his own childhood. Although our times together became easier over the years, I never felt closer to him at that moment. After so many years, I’m at last seeing another side of my father. There are many different kinds of salmon, but almost all of them mate(交配) in a very strange way. They are born in small, freshwater rivers. They live in the river for a year, and then swim downstream to a bigger river and eventually to the ocean very quickly. While they live in the ocean, salmon are silver coloured. After several years at sea, the salmon grow very long and heavy. Then, as if by magic, they all begin to swim home. Each salmon somehow remembers where it was born and the very same area in the small river. It is a long, difficult journey home. Once the salmon enter fresh, they stop eating. They also change colours. Some salmon turn red, other brown and grey, and some turn pink. Some salmon grow a large bulge on their back, called a hump.
