In the US, cars are often called automobiles. The first car in the US was shown in 1804 by Oliver Evans. This car could not only travel on land with wheels like a normal car, but it could also move on water. It was powered by steam. The next step in the development of the car came at the end of the century.

The parts of the first cars were made separately and then put together by hand. This took much too long. In 1913, the American car maker Henry Ford began to use an assembly line to make his cars. An assembly line is a way of producing many things in a. short time. It is a line of machines and people. Each of these is responsible for a certain step in putting something, like a car, together. For example, at one point a machine will put in the engine. The car will then move along the line to the next point, where something else will be put into place. By the time it reaches the end of the long line, the car is complete. It made cars much cheaper to make and buy.

Cars have developed a lot since then. Today, cars can be very advanced. The first car could travel at about 5 km/h. Now cars can run faster than 200 km/h. The first recorded long drive in a car in Britain was in 1895, and it was just over 90 km long. Today, cars travel thousands of kilometres at a time.

Some of the more expensive cars include CD players, computer screens, televisions, even fridges, but no matter how luxurious (奢侈的) or simple a car is, driving the car has become one of the most important ways to travel, especially in the city.

As Jessica's birthday was coming up, she planned to have a birthday party: She posted it all over Facebook. All her new friends were invited but me. I was really shocked and sad. At school, my friends and I always had lunch together, laughing and having fun. Jessica was always with her friends, too.

One day Jessica asked to come over to my house. I said yes because actually I had missed her very much. When she got to my house, we did homework together. When we finished our homework, she looked in my refrigerator, got some chips, and then she left. I started to think that she had just come to use me. 基础写作(One possible version)

Last month, our city was attacked by heavy fog and smog, which made it rather difficult for us to see things around us as well as in the distance. As a result, there were many heavy traffic jams on the highway. Besides, because there were large amounts of polluted air, people were warned to reduce the time they spend outdoors. According to experts, such kind of weather is closely related to carbon monoxide from vehicles and burning coals. In conclusion, we ought to produce more clean energy motors to protect the environment.

读写任务(One possible version)

Though her good friend, Jessica, was unfriendly, the writer still treated her kindly. Even when faced with some problems, she faced them calmly and forgave Jessica. Finally, they became good friends again.

I think the writer is right to be broad-minded toward others, as the old saying goes, “To err is human.”

Everyone deserves a second chance when they make mistakes.

If I were the writer, I would argue with Jessica about the reason why she treated me unfairly like that. If it’s my fault, I must apologize to her for it. If not, I would like to reason with her since the truth becomes clearer by arguing and reasoning.

As students, first of all, we should improve the relationship between students and teachers. Secondly, we should be strict with ourselves and broad-minded towards others. Lastly, we should have a good eye for the shining points of others and be inspired by them as often as possible.

A Sundays, I walk to the supermarket. Mother hands me the grocery list and puts money in my pocket, hoping it will be enough. She's had a hard day, and I've had a hard week. Nothing out of the ordinary happens when I get to the store. I grab the bread, some milk, and other things on the list. As I turn to head out, I see a beautiful dress in the window. I turn away, bitter that I could never own such a dress. Outside, I cannot stop thinking about that pretty dress. It's not fair that I can never have what I want. I work so hard to help my family and yet I get nothing in return, just another list to do. In my anger, I fail to realize the apples are rolling across the road. Suddenly, I see a pair of hands, offering me an apple. Looking up, I see the tanned (晒黑的) face of this stranger. His clothes are mismatched, borrowed or stolen. But his eyes are soft and kind. “Thanks,” I say. No other words are spok en as he continues to help me. I tell him “thank you” one more time and am on my way because I have many other things to finish. Suddenly, he says, “Have a good day, ma'am.” And then he gives me the biggest smile I have ever seen. Right then, he looks years younger — and I feel a fool.
