The Left-behind Children

There is a saying in our country that kids are flowers of our nation. The flowers should be carefully taking care of by their parents or our society. But, now there is a crisis phenomenon that so many parents have to work in another city to earn their life and left their children at home. These children who meet their parents only during festivals are called Left-behind Children.

Why the parents leave hometown to go to the big city? With the development of our economy, the prices of most commodities have risen, while the prices of agricultural products are never changed. So the income of farms almost couldn't support their life. But in the metropolis they can earn more money. A growing number of village couples head to the cities in search of work and leave their children behind. According to a report published by the All-China Women's Federation (CWF), the number of left- behind children in rural areas stand at 61.026 million, accounting for 37.7 percent of rural children and 21.9 percent of all children nationwide. A generation of left-behind children is emerging in China. As a special social group, they are vulnerable to physical and emotional hurt, with their personal safety often compromised because they are far away from their parents. As we all know, children who are deprived of love, especially their parents' love, are likely to develop a

wide variety of problems, like depression, neurotic, psychosomatic and so on.

Even though this social problem is so difficult to solve. It's really high time for the government and all the society to pay more attention to these social groups.Maybe the government could build more schools in the gathering places of migrant works, so that children can go to the cities with their parents. Then the teachers and social volunteers could chat with these kids and remit their stress.
