The purpose of non-REM sleep is even more __43__. The new experiment s, such as those described for the first time at a recent meeting of the Societ y for Sleep Research in Minneapolis, suggest fascinating explanations __45__ of non-REM sleep. (95)

43. A. subtle B. obvious C. mysterious D. doubtful

45. A. in the light B. by virtue C. with the exception D. for the purpose

分析:只要细心寻找即可发现,文章开头说的“the purpose of non-REM sleep”和结尾的“_of non-REM sleep.”

Here’s a fellow who just walked into a bank and helped himself_____s

o much money.

A for

B by

C to

D of

They do not provide energy, __ do they construct or build any part of the body.

A either

B so

C nor

D never

Successful safety programs may _45_greatly in the emphasis placed on ce rtain aspects of the program.

A alter

B differ

C shift

D distinguish

表示列举的连词:first, second, third…;firstly, secondly, thirdly…; first, next, th en…; in the first place, in the second place…;for one thing, for another thin g…;to begin with, to conclude…

表示原因的连词:because, since, as, now that…

表示结果的连词:so, therefore, thus, hence, accordingly, consequently, as a r esult

表示让步和转折的连词:however, nevertheless, nonetheless, still, though, yet, in spite of, at any rate, in any case, whoever, whatever

表示对照的连词:on the contrary, in contrast, by contrast, in comparison, by comparison, conversely

表示补充的连词:also, further, furthermore, likewise, similarly, moreover, in a ddition, what’s more, too, either, neither, not…but…, not only…but also…

表示时间顺序的连词:when, while, as, after, before, since, until, as soon as, once

表示目的的连词:that, so that, in order that, lest, for fear that

表示条件的连词:if, suppose (that), supposing (that), unless, in case, so (as) long as, so far as, on condition (that), provided (that), providing (that)

例如:

Getting enough vitamins is essential to life, although the body has no nutr itional use for excess vitamins. Many people ____ believe in being on the "saf e side" and thus take extra vitamins. (96)

A. nevertheless

B. therefore

C. moreover

D. meanwhile

(Immediately) the officers jumped into their cars and rushed to the_____hospital.

A. animal

B. biggest

C. plant

D. nearest

Specialists in history and economic, have ____ two things

A manifested

B approved

C show

D speculated

Manifest指表明,显示,主语是某事或某物,例:the photograph manifested the truth of what she sai d.

比如说however、although、yet、because等属于红花词。Since、nowthat、what、if only、in case等都属于绿叶词。

[A] what 【解析】此题考查疑问代词辨析:题干中过去分词短语published from the University of California and Yale University… That is 1 a study has 2 . That is what a study has 2 来解题。 The study is a genome-wide analysis conducted 3 1932 unique subjects的要求,所选择的介词能用在conduct“实施;进行”之后,又得和subject 搭配,所以这个题目应该选择on,构成on some subjects“关于某类主题”。 4. The study 4 pairs of unrelated friends and unrelated strangers… The same people were used in both 5 . While 1% may seem 6 , it is not so to a geneticist句首的While引导让步状语从句,同时提示我们逗号后和逗号前的内容形成一定程度上的对立关系,而且作者的表达重点位于逗号之后,1%的数量对于基因研究者来说影响程度很大。 Most people do not even 7 their fourth cousins but somehow manage to select as friends the people who 8 our kin中说“大多数人甚至不他们的第四代表亲,但是尽量选择和亲属人作为朋友”。 8. [D] resemble

Annie hesitated for a moment before stepping through the doorway where, almost at once, she stopped __21__ before a green armchair. There was a card on the chair which said: “This fine chair is yours __22__ less than a pound a week,” and very small at the bottom, “Cash price eighty-nine pounds fifty.” A pound a week... __23__, she could almost pay that out of her housekeeping money and never miss it! A voice at her shoulder made her __24__. “Can I help you, Madam?”She looked round at the assistant who had come softly to her __25__. “Oh, well, no,” she said. “I was just looking.”“We’ve chairs of all kinds in the showroom. If you’ll just come up, you will find something to suit you.” Annie, worried at the thought of being persuaded to buy something she didn’t need, left the shop hurriedly. 16.
