History is full of cases where dreams have been a pathway to creativity and discovery. A striking example is provided by Dr. Otto Loewi,a pharmacologist and winner of a Nobel Prize. Loewi had spent years studying the chemical transmission of nerve impulses (脉搏). A tremendous breakthrough in his research came when he dreamed of an experiment three nights in a row. The first two nights he woke up and wrote down the experiment quickly and untidily on paper. But the next morning, he couldn’t tell what the notes meant. On the third night, he got up after having the dream. This time, instead of making notes he went straight to his laboratory and performed the important experiment. Loewi later said that if the experiment had occurred to him while awake he would have rejected it.

Loewi’s experiment gives some insight in to using dreams to produce creative solutions. Nervous feelings are reduced during dreaming, which may be especially useful in solving problems that require a fresh point of view.

Being able to take advantage of dreams for solving is improved if you ―set‖yourself before retiring. Before you go to bed, try to think intently about a problem you wish to solve. Bury yourself in the problem by stating it clearly and reviewing all relevant information. Then use the suggestions listed in the previous section to catch your dreams. Although this method is not guaranteed to produce a novel solution or a new insight, it is certain to be an adventure. About half of a group of college students using the method for a week recalled a dream that helped them solve a personal problem.

71. The main idea of this passage is that _________.

A. very little is really known about the meaning of dreams

B. it is possible to ―catch‖ one’s dreams by planning before going to sleep

C. dreams can be useful in producing creative solutions to one’s problems

D. Loewi’s experiment helped in the study of transmission of nerve impulses

72. The first paragraph is mainly organized by _________.

A. classifying types of experiments

B. summarizing the work of one researcher

C. comparing and exploring historical cases

D. telling in time order about one man’s research

73. If Loewi had thought of the experiment while awake, he would have _________.

A. asked someone else to do it

B. thought it was a bad idea

C. tried it out on his own

D. thought it was a wise idea

74. The author probably thinks that _________.

A. Loewi should not have conducted his experiment

B. dreaming is of very little value to most people

C. nervous feelings may stop someone thinking of useful ideas

D. college students should not try out dream experiments

75. The author seems to be in favor of __________ according to the passage.

A. seeking creative solutions

B. avoiding scientific experiments

C. nervous feelings before dreams

D. becoming a famous scientist

第二卷(非选择题共35分)

第四部分:写作(共两节,满分35分)

第一节阅读表达(共计5小题;每题2分,共计10分)

阅读下面短文,根据短文后的题目要求进行简答。

You are about to become a college freshmen. You enter a college expecting to leave with a degree. The following are tips on how to get the most out of your college education.

Time Management

―Man is first a social animal, then a rational(理性的) one.‖ So you may find it hard to say ―No‖ each time your roommate wants to see a movie when you need to read Paradise Lost(《失乐园》).

Think about what you want from college and from friends. Study after breakfast, between classes, whatever works best for you. Don’t cut off all social contacts, which are as vital(重要的) to surviving in college as reading. Study Hegel(黑格尔) first, then catch a late movie.

Study Method

Would you take a trip by ___________ instead of reading a map? Of course not. Studying in college demands more independence than in high school. Survey the material first to get a sense of it; ask some questions; write down key ideas; tell yourself the essence(本质)of what you’ve read and review it.

Keeping up

Professors may not notice whether you attend a large lecture, but you could notice later on. Some professors use lectures to discuss material not found in the reading on which they will base an exam. Others stress key points. Skip at your own risk. If you must miss a lecture, get the notes in time. If too much time elapses(逝去), the notes will make no sense. Never fall more than a week behind in reading the notes. If you don’t do the reading, you won’t understand the lecture.

A It was Thanksgiving morning. I was busy preparing the traditional Thanksgiving turkey when the doorbell rang. I opened the front door and saw two small children in rags huddling together on the top step. “Any old papers, lady?” asked one of them. I was busy. I wanted to say “no” until I looked down at their feet. They were wearing th in little sandals(凉鞋), wet with heavy snow. “Come in and I'll make you a cup of hot cocoa.” They walked over and sat down at the table. Their wet sandals left marks upon the floor. I served them cocoa and bread to fight against the cold outside. Then I went back to the kitchen and started cooking. The silence in the front room struck me. I looked in. The girl held the empty cup in her hands, looking at it. The boy asked in a flat voice, “Lady, are you rich?” “Am I rich? Pity, no!” I looked at my worn-out slipcovers(椅套). The girl put her cup back in its saucer(茶碟)carefully and said, “Your cups match your saucers.” They left after that, holding their papers against the wind. They had reminded me that I had so much for which to be grateful. Plain blue china cups and saucers were only worth five pence. But they matched. I tasted the potatoes and stirred(搅动)the meat soup. Potatoes and brown meat soup, a roof over our heads, my man with a regular job, these matched, too. I moved the chairs back from the fire and cleaned the living room. The muddy marks of little sandals were still wet upon my floor. Let them be for a while, I thought, just in case I should begin to forget how rich I am. 36.Which of the following would be the best title for the text? A.Lady, are you rich? B.A story of Thanksgiving Day C.Don't forget how rich you are D.Does cups and saucers match well? 37.Which of the following statements is NOT true according to the passage? A.The girl thought the writer was rich just because she wanted to make the writer happy. B.The writer had thought she wasn't rich because her supplies were not expensive. C.If cups and saucers match well, they are a best pair even though cheap.
