Anyone who lives alone and manifests no longing to be in a relationship is in our times almost automatically viewed as pitiable. Moreover, they think that it is simply

not possible to be at once alone and normal. This set us up for collective catastrophe, because it means that a huge number of people who have no wish to live with anyone else.Even worse, they are under press and pressure, then they are shamed into conjugal life(婚姻生活).No doubt that they are with disastrous results for all involved. Only once singlehood has completely equal prestige with its alternative can we ensure that people will be free in their choices. And hence, they can join couples for the right reasons because they love another person ,rather than because they are terrified of remaining single.

Romantic love is a dangerous illusion.

We should recognize that romantic love, the idea of being deeply enamored with one special partner over a whole lifetime is a very new, ambitious and really pretty odd concept. From close-up ,over periods of time ,almost everyone is condemned to be pretty dispiriting and difficult.A good romantic marriage is evidently theoretically possible. It may also be extremely unlikely in practice.,which should make any failure feel a good deal less shameful.

No one thinks their partner is terrific after a while.

Those among us who chose to stay si ngle shouldn’t be thought

unromantic.Indeed ,we may be among the very most romantic of all, because it is in

the end the fervent romantics who should be especially careful of ending up in boring relationships.

We aren’t sane enough to be in relationships.

Though it is a sign of some maturity to know how to love and live alongside someone, it is actually a sign of even greater to recognize that this is something that one isn’t in the end gotta be psychologically really capable of,as a good portion of us simply aren’t.In that cases, we retire ourselves voluntarily ,in order to save others from the terrible consequences ,or it is called bad ending.

Being alone means not inflicting yourself on others.

However, being alone means not inflicting ourselves on others. It spares us from constant reminders of how difficult and strange we are!No one is there to hold a mirror up-record your antics and constantly make you accountable for them. If you ‘re lucky, you will be able to tolerate and even like yourself if you are on your own.

You are my today and all of my tomorrows.

They tell you in school that it’s the lungs that keep you breathing but it’s your heart.

And it’s as if I never really even knew love until right now, in this moment, with you.

Ask me to define my love for you and I’ll say it’s captured in every beautiful memory

of our past, detailed out in the vivid visions of our dreams, and future plans, but

most of all it’s right now, in the moment where everything I’ve ever wanted in my life is standing right in front of me and smiling.

I really don’t know how many more love stories I have left in me, but I want you to be my last.

There are going to be days where you’re undone, stressed out, tired, spent. And I’ll still love you just as much in those moments as I ever have, maybe even a little more, because it’ll mean you let me get close enough to know the real you. That’s all I want.

I swear I couldn’t love you more than I do right now, and yet I know I will tomorrow.

Sweetheart,

My thoughts are deep into you

From the moment that I wake up

And to the whole day through

Happy Valentine's Day

If I could save time in a bottle

the first thing that I'd like to do is to save every day until eternity passes away

just to spend them with you

if I could make days last forever

if words could make wishes come true

I'd save every day like a treasure and then

again I would spend them with you

Without you, I'd be a soul without a purpose.

Without you, I'd be an emotion without a heart.

I'm a face without expression, A heart with no beat.

Without you by my side, I'm just a flame without the heat.

没有你我将是一个没有目的灵魂;

没有你我的情感将没有了根基;我将是一张没有表情的脸;一颗停止跳动的心;

It’s INCREDIBLE!!!。”

Although southern Maya areas received more rainfall than northern areas, problems of water were paradoxically more severe in the wet south. While that made things hard for ancient Maya living in the south, it has also made things hard for modern archaeologists who have difficulty understanding why ancient droughts caused bigger problems in the wet south than in the dry north.

The word “paradoxically”in the passa ge is closest in meaning to ?

○usually

○surprisingly

○understandably

○predictably

Paragraph 3: Climatic changes at the end of the glacial period 13,000 years ago

have been proposed to account for the emergence of farming. The temperature increased dramatically in a short period of time (years rather than centuries), allowing for a growth of the hunting-gathering population due to the abundance of resources. There were, however, fluctuations in the climatic conditions, with the consequences that wet conditions were followed by dry ones, so that the availability

of plants and animals oscillated brusquely.

According to paragraph 3, the abundance of resources fluctuated sharply after the end of the glacial period because?

A.Locally abundant resources were quicklyexhausted by hunter-gatherers.

B.The temperature became much higher in someareas over others.

C.Different types of plants and animals became available as the climate changed.

D.The amount of rainfall varied radically from one period to the next.

首先,题目中关键词——the abundance of resources, fluctuated, because。

1: Outflow channels are probably relics of catastrophic flooding on Mars long ago. They appear only in equatorial regions and generally do not form extensive interconnected networks. Instead, they are probably the paths taken by huge volumes of water draining from the southern highlands into the northern plains. The onrushing water arising from these flash floods likely also formed the odd teardrop-shaped “islands” (resembling the miniature versions seen in the wet sand of our beaches at low tide) that have been found on the plains close to the ends of the outflow channels. Judging from the width and depth of the channels, the flow rates must have been truly enormous-perhaps as much as a hundred times greater than the 105 tons per second carried by the great Amazon river. Flooding shaped the outflow channels approximately 3 billion years ago, about the same times as the northern volcanic plains formed. Question: According to paragraph 2, all of the following are true of the outflow channels on Mars EXCEPT: A. They formed at around the same time that volcanic activity was occurring on the northern plains. B. They are found only on certain parts of the Martian surface. C. They sometimes empty onto what appear to have once been the wet sands of tidal beaches. D. They are thought to have carried water northward from the equatorial regions. A正确。

When the English arrived in Jamestown many died during the long cold winter, but in the following spring Native Americans showed them what local foods they could eat. In the autumn, well-prepared for the winter, settlers and Native Americans had a special dinner together, the first Thanksgiving, to thank God and the Native Americans for all the food they had. Another story describes how the Native American princess *Pocahontas saved the life of John *Smith, the leader in Jamestown, when her father, *Powhatan, wanted to kill him. She later married another Englishman, John Rolfe, and went to England with him. The story of Pocahontas is widely known and many Americans are proud to have her as an ancestor. But Native Americans were more often seen by white settlers as the enemy. *Westerns, i.e. films and books about the *Wild West, use the threat from Indians as their central theme. In this context Native Americans are still called #39;Indians#39;. Children often play #39;cowboys and Indians#39; and pretend to kill each other. When *Buffalo Bill, began touring the US with his

(8):The Civil War Causes of the war The American Civil War was fought between the northern and southern states from 1861 to 1865. There were two main causes of the war. The first was the issue of *slavery: should Africans who had been brought by force to the US be used as slaves. The second was the issue of states#39; rights: should the US federal government be more powerful than the governments of individual states. The North and South were very different in character. The economy of the South was based on agriculture, especially cotton. Picking cotton was hard work, and the South depended on slaves for this. The North was more industrial, with a larger population and greater wealth. Slavery, and opposition to it, had existed since before independence (1776) but, in the 19th century, the abolitionists, people who wanted to make slavery illegal, gradually increased in number. The South#39;s attitude was that each state had the right to make any law it wanted, and if southern states wanted slavery, the US government could not prevent it. Many southerners became secessionists, believing that southern states should secede from the Union (= become independent from the US).

Although only 1 person in 20 in the Colonial period lived in a city, the cities had a disproportionate influence on the development of North America. They were at the cutting edge of social change. It was in the cities that the elements that can be associated with modern capitalism first appeared — the use of money and commercial paper in place of barter, open competition in place of social deference and hierarchy, with an attendant rise in social disorder, and the appearance of factories using coat or water power in place of independent craftspeople working with hand tools. "The cities predicted the future," wrote historian Gary. B. Nash, "even though they were but overgrown villages compared to the great urban centers of Europe, the Middle East and China." Except for Boston, whose population stabilized at about 16,000 in 1760, cities grew by exponential leaps through the eighteenth century. In the fifteen years prior to the outbreak of the War for independence in 1775, more than 200,000 immigrants arrived on North American shores. This meant that a population the size of Boston was arriving every year, and most of it flowed into the port cities in the Northeast. Philadelphia's population nearly doubted in those years, reaching about 30,000 in 1774, New York grew at almost the same rate, reaching about 25,000 by 1775. The quality of the hinterland dictated the pace of growth of the cities. The land surrounding Boston had always been poor farm country, and by the mid-eighteenth century it
