学习目标1.在阅读中积累词汇短语及句型表达;

On the whole, in short, therefore…

I agree with the opinion that…

Given all these points above, I would support the ide a that…

For all the reasons mentioned above, I would prefer…

How to Learn a Foreign Language

Learn a Foreign Language

1)Spend the time!

By far the most important factor is how much time you are spending on the

language. The more time you spend with the language, the faster you will learn.

This means listening, reading, writing, speaking, and studying words and phrases. This does not mean sitting in class looking out the window, nor listening to other students who do not speak well, nor getting explanations in your own language about how the language works. This means spending time enjoyably connected to the language you are learning.

2) Listen and read every day!

Listen wherever you are on your MP3 player. Read what you are listening to. Listen to and read things that you like, things that you can mostly understand, or even partly understand. If you keep listening and reading you will get used to the language. One hour of listening or reading is more effective than many hours of class time.

3) Focus on words and phrases!

Build up your vocabulary, you’ll need lots. Start to notice words and how they come together as phrases. Learn these words and phrases through your listening and reading. Read online, using online dictionaries, and make your own vocabulary lists for review. Soon you will run into your new words and phrases elsewhere. Gradually you will be able to use them. Do not worry about how accurately you speak until you have accumulated a plenty of words through listening and reading.

4) Take responsibility for your own learning!

If you do not want to learn the language, you won’t. If you do want to learn the language, take control. Choose content of interest, that you want to listen to and read. Seek out the words and phrases that you need to understand your listening and reading. Do not wait for someone else to show you the language, nor to tell you what to do. Discover the language by yourself, like a child growing up. Talk when you feel like it. Write when you feel like it. A teacher cannot teach you to become fluent, but you can learn to become fluent if you want to.

5) Relax and enjoy yourself!

Do not worry about what you cannot remember, or cannot yet understand, or cannot yet say. It does not matter. You are learning and improving. The language will gradually become clearer in your brain, but this will happen on a schedule that you cannot control. So sit back and enjoy. Just make sure you spend enough time with the language.

That is the greatest guarantee of success.

Many people always say that listening to spoken English is too hard for them. But if you don’t understand what

people are saying, how can you talk with them? It may be difficult, but learning by

listening is necessary. It can be done.

As we know, different people have different pronunciations of the same

If you want to learn how to listen to English, the following ways are helpful.

Get some books with tapes. Do the exercises, from the simple to the difficult, step by step.

You can also watch English-language films, listen to English radio and TV programs.

Try to listen every day, even if only for a few minutes. At first you may understand few words. Don’t give up. Just listen.

Remember to read and speak English every day. It will help you to listen better. Spend an hour reading English every day and finally you will notice that you are making progress.

Talk to English-speaking foreigners as often as possible. Foreigners will speak more slowly with you, use simple words, and use body language to help you understand the m. Don’t be afraid to talk to them. They won’t mind because they may have more trouble making themselves understood in Chinese.

Not many people read plays these days, but many people still enjoy watching them at the theatre or on television. Perhaps the l 7 popular form of literature (文学) is poetry. This is because many poems are very difficult to understand, and often seem to be written and read by very clever people. I wish I could write poems which anybody can understand.

Practice doesn't always make perfect when it comes to becoming the next Mozart, a new study suggests. This may be because some aspects of musical talent are built into the genes (基因),the

researchers said. Samuel Osmond is a 19-year-old law student from Cornwall, England. He never

studied the piano. However,he can play very difficult musical pieces by musicians such as Chopin

and Beethoven just a few minutes after he hears them. He learns a piece of music by listening to it in parts. Then he thinks about the notes (音符) in his head. Two years ago, he played his first piece Moonlight Sonata (奏鸣曲)by Beethoven. He surprised everyone around him.

Amazed that he remembered this long and difficult piece of music and played it perfectly?his teachers say

Samue l is unbelievable. They say his ability is very rare, but Samuel doesn’t even realize that what he can do is special. Samuel wanted to become a lawyer as it was the wish of his parents, but music teachers told him he should study music instead. Now, he studies law and music.

Samuel can’t understand why everyone is so surprised. “I grew up with music. My mother played the piano and my father played the guitar. About two years ago, I suddenly decided to start playing the piano, without being able to read music and without having any lessons. It comes easily to me—I hear the notes and can bear them in mind—each and every note, ” says Samuel. Recently, Samuel performed a piece during a special event at his college. VI. Reading comprehension(阅读理解)(共50分) A.Choose the best answer(根据短文内容, 选择最恰当的答案)(共14分) Why do you do what you do? What is the engine that keeps you up late at night or gets you going in the morning? What stands between you and your dream? Weighty questions. One researcher believes that writing down the answers to these questions can be decisive for students. Jordan Peterson teaches in the Department of Psychology at the University of Toronto. He wrote a paper that demonstrates a surprising effect: nearly erasing the achievement gap for 700 students over the course of two years with a short written exercise in setting goals. Experiments going back to the 1980s have showed that “expressive”writing can reduce depression, increase productivity and even cut down on visits to the doctors. “Goal-setting theory” holds that writing down specific goals and strategies can help people overcome obstacles and succeed. Seeing a positive outcome helps people stay motivated and stick to achieving their goals. Recently, researchers have been getting more and more interested in the role that mental motivation plays in academic achievement. Peterson wondered whether writing down goals could be shown to affect students’ motivation. He started a course called Map of Meaning, in which students complete a set of writing exercises that combine writing with goal-setting, Students reflect on important moments in their past and create plans for the future, including specific goals and strategies to get through difficulties. “It completely turned my life around,”says Christine Brophy, who is an under-graduate several years ago, was on the verge of dropping out of school. After taking Peterson’s course, she changed her major. Today she is a doctoral student and one of Peterson’s main research assistants. In an early study at McGill University in Montreal, Peterson’s course showed a powerful positive effect on students at risk, reducing the dropout rate and improving academic achievement. Peterson is seeking a larger audience for what he has named “self-authoring,”He started a company and is selling the course online.
