《英汉翻译》课程大纲及参考书目

1. Course description:

English Chinese translation is a selective course of the English majors. It is divided into E-C translation (I) and E-C translation (II).

The class is meant to be an introduction to the basic English Chinese translation abilities, including the basic knowledge of translation, primary differences and similarities between English and Chinese in the language and the culture, useful skills and methods of E-C translation, characteristics of some writing styles and the translation methods.

2. Contents of E-C Translation

1）introduce some basic knowledge of translation

2）analyze some differences and similarities between English and Chinese

3）introduce some useful skills and methods of E-C translation

4）discuss some characteristics of some writing styles and the translation methods E-C Translation (I) will cover the first three parts. The last part will be done in E-C Translation (II).

3. Goals:

1) The translation should be expressive and smooth.

2) The speed is 250-300 words per hour.

4. Grading:

1）class attendance and participation 10%

2）homework 20%

3）terminal exam 70%
