When talking about handicrafts, I ' d like to share with you my experience of making

paper-cut. Paper- cut is a traditional folk art in China and it some

ruralareas. It is paper cut into different shapes and patterns and then

pasted on windows as decorations on festive occasions, such as the Spring Festival or a Wedding

ceremony. I first learned to make paper- cut in primary school when making paper-cut was

part of the extracurricularactivities. The process isn ' t very complicated and doesn ' t take long. Well , you need a piece of red-coloured paper, a pair of scissors and a pencil.

Second, draw a certain pattern or write down some Chinese characters, such as “ XI, OR

FU ” that represent the auspiciousnessin our culture on the folded paper. Then use the scissors to cut the paper according to the you open it , you will find out a very beautiful pattern in the centre is right in front of your eyes. Finally , paste the pattern of “ FU or XI ” to the front -door upside down, which means the fortuneand bliss are coming. It

1. Would you talk to people whom you meet for the first time ?

至y一些问题的话,他们会 consider it as a blatant intrusion upon one ' s privacy 。

2. What ' s the differenee between the way people shop before and now?

3. Do you judge a pers on by the clothes he/she wears?

4. Why is breakfast importa nt?

5. Is there any cha nge in the household chores now?

6. Does your family always treat you as a child?

7. What can you see outside your win dow?

Describe a historical site; describe a restaura nt or describe a library.

8. What do you think is a good way to lear n En glish?

9. Do you think it is importa nt to watch movie in the theatre?

10. What kinds of n ewspaper do you have in China?

Describe an importa nt inven ti on (before the age of computers) that has in flue need huma n society.*** You should say:

what the inven ti on is

whe n and where it was inven ted

how it is used

and expla in how this inven tio n has in flue need society . ***

What the inven ti on is

The phone booth . After the great inven ti on of teleph one by Bell, ano ther America n inven tor Greg William inven ted the coi n public teleph one in 1889.

When and where it was inven ted

Inven tor William Gray inven ted the phone booth after realiz ing the difficulty of

placi ng a pho ne call from outside the home.

How it is used

A telepho ne booth is a small structure furni shed with a paypho ne and desig ned for a teleph one user's convenience . The user of the booth pays for the call by deposit ing coins into a slot on the teleph one or by using a teleph one card.

and expla in how this inven ti on has in flue need society.

More tha n a cen tury has passed and now the teleph one booth is see n almost everywhere . It has even become the art in some condition . However, with the rapid growth of the Internet the use of mobile teleph one, the traditi onal teleph one booth will probably fade out . And nowadays more and more cities are building the high-tech telephone booth that serves both

as an ordi nary pho ne and an in formatio n cen tre . Maybe we will on ly see the old ones in

the museum show in the n ear future.

Part 3 Electrical Applia nces

1 . What kinds of electrical applia nces are most used in the home besides the teleph one and computer?

1 would have to say washi ng mach ine, vacuum clea ner, rice cooker, coffee maker,

electric kettle, air conditioner, etc . Those would be the ones I could n't live without

or I mean would n't want to do without.

2. What are some advantages and disadvantages of using electrical equipment?

Firstly, it saves our time but, one the other hand, people will become totally dependent

on equipment and not to do things they could do themselves . Lastly, people could get electrocuted if using them carelessly, which happe ns every year.

3. Do you think we can now live without electrical appliances?

Well, it's hard to say. Electricity has truly become the lifeblood of our society . Right now we can't live without electrical devices because we rely on them to make our life easier . Many of us have become addicted to what can be done with in door plumb ing, the Internet and cell phones . Actually, It is difficult but not impossible .

Moder n Tech no logy & Huma n Progress

1. What cha nges have take n place in society as a result of the use of moder n tech no logy such as the televisi on and the computer?

No doubt to say that moder n tech no logy has made our life easier and convenient . Invention of the tools like stapler, Hoover and ATM is the milestone of tech no logy as well as huma n bein g's progress . Take the Internet for in sta nee; people can communicate with friends all over the world now. Only by clicking, you will gain what you expect.

2 . Do you think people rely too much on mach ines and moder n tech no logy no wadays?

Yes most people do . Most people like look ing for the easy way to get certa in things done like: cook ing with microwave, weedi ng with law n mower and so on . I thi nk maybe we rely on convenien ces too much that we should actually get away from it all and back to nature.

3 . How do you think moder n tech no logy will cha nge the way people work in the future?

It has already cha nged the way people work in every field and it will con ti nue . For instanee, mymomstudied to be a graphic designer when she was in college . She did everything by hand 20 years ago . Now, her field grew with the use of Internet and new tech no logy as she's drawing by computer, bidding work online, and submitting work online . In the future, more work can be done automatically, and all we n eed to do is just to press the butt on or to check the jobs if they are ready for collecti on.

Describe a library that you often go to.

You should say:

what library it is

where it is /what the library looks like

what you do there

and explain why you like this library.

点题 There is a library near to my home where I like to go. It is called the Peoples' Library.

地点 It is located on First Avenue n ear Main Street. It is a very new buildi ng and

has some beautiful urban sculpture standing on the grounds around it. The library has many floors. Each floor has differe nt

sect ions.

The firs time I went there I had to have a lot of help to find things but now

I feel like it is my second home. When I go to the library I feel like I am leaving a lot

of my worries and cares behind me, even if I have to go there to do some research or to

study. I think that is because I know I can always find a quiet, private place where I

can read or do my work. And sometimes if I want to travel to a different place or a different time, I can do that in the library by finding a book or something on the computer that will take me into ano ther world.

活动 I am particularly in terested in this library because it has a lot to offer.

Besides havi ng a good stock of books, it also provides office facilities such as a good

copy machine, a book binder, many computers and printers, and much more. And it has very

good service too. If you n eed a book in ano ther library it will obta in that book for you by either shipp ing it from the other library or purchas ing the book.

Part 3

Libraries

1. Do people in China often go to libraries?

I think people of all ages use the library. However I think students use the libraries more ofte n tha n older people. I ofte n see young childre n in the library but I think uni versity stude nts use the library the most freque ntly .In my opinion, the older generation use

libraries the least. Someare too busy and others have no interest in books.

2. Even though it might cost a lot to maintain a library, do you think the government should ope n more public libraries?

On the one hand I thi nk that it is very worthwhile to have ple nty of libraries. On

the other hand with the way tech no logy is improvi ng practically each day, it may be wiser

to in vest in making computers more accessible to more people. It is possible to go to a internet caf e and go online, but much of this time is spent on worthless computer games and watching movies. Establishing computer libraries and educating people how to use them ben eficially might be s good idea.

you think public libraries should be free of charge?

It would be nice if libraries were free, but usually you have to pay a fee as well

put dow n some kind of deposit. I don't think this is too un reas on able as people often do

not appreciate things they get totally for free. If people know they can get their deposits back if they do not damage any books, the n it makes them more careful. Of course the gover nment should subsidize libraries so that the costs that people do have to pay are

not exorbita nt.

do you think libraries will cha nge in the future?

I can picture a future where computer tech no logy will en able us to have easy access

to all the resources a library provides. People may not even have to read. They can have

the equipment needed to just listen to words being read to them. It may sound like fantasy,

but with all the progress in tech no logy I thi nk it is very possible.

Improveme nt

kind of skills do you think library staff should have?

I thi nk library staff should always be very well in formed as to where things are

located in the library. This will enable them to help people to save time in finding what

they need, which is a very big help in our busy times. I think they should be very courteous also as people who are using the library can often be under a lot of pressure and often

n eed a lot of help. They may be un der pressure because of an assig nment they are work ing

on or because they are unfamiliar with how the library works. Library staff should also

be efficient and have organizational skills. They may have to take care of a lot of details

and it would make things very difficult for those using the library if items were lost

or difficult to find. Last but not least library staff should be patient. They may be faced

with a myriad of requests each day and they will be un happy and those using the library will be un happy if the staff is frustrated, impolite or upset.

6. What can be done to make libraries more attractive?

I am interested in interior decorating and one thing I would recommend for libraries

is to in corporate more n eutral colors into the d e cor. I believe that no wadays libraries

are decorated to use maximumspace and reflect maximumlight. Brow ns and other muted colors can create a warm atmosphere. Comfortable and attractive seats can also make the environment more inviting. Also I am in favor of having works of art in libraries. Not necessarily originals but good quality copies of famous artist's work are both attractive

as well as educati on al.

has internet affected and reduced the popularity of library that it used to possess?

Certa in ly the internet provides easy access to sources of information. although their validity should be suspect. However, there is nothing on the internet that replaces picking

up an actual book and readi ng it. From myperspective, reading a book is a tactile experienee

which is perceptible to the sense of touch. Also books can be carried every where and read

whe never you stop mov ing. Although I use the internet for a nu mber of thin gs, I have in

my pers on al library about 3,000 reference books and I find thi ngs in them that I do not

find on the intern et. I augme nt this library with books from the library.

Magazine

I have been so fortunate that I amable to read. In my spare time I like reading magazines

to get i nformati on in stead of surfi ngthe n et, and my favorite one must always be the

Fortune Life You know I am very fascinated by people ' s story, namely the biography.

And this magaz ine Fortune life ” covers a lot of stories of celebrities, sport stars ,

sin gers, critics, and teachers, etc, who was from humble to noble by struggling and strivi ng

in society.

It's published bili ngually by the Chinese government authorities, Chin ese and En glish. It owns millio ns of readers around the coun try. The magaz ine prese nts in-depth reports

and objective photographyof the celebrity is breathtak ing, and the stories are very

inspiring, which drive me to study and work harder to become one of those people one day, make my fron t-page.

When I bega n to read this magaz in e, I n ever miss a sin gle issue, for it really enlargesbroadens my horizon and gives meinspiration to lead a better life from the stories in it. You will n ever know how comfortable and relaxed it is with the feeli ng of touch ing this magaz ine, for it brings me sere nity in mind.

However, help ing kids is the crucial thing that we should do. So I would con tact some local non-profit organizations and talk with them to see if they can help me in any way.

How you would run this bus in ess?

There will be food, video games, pin ball, and a dance floor. I will also hire

co-ord in ators there to help kids with homework and other kinds of stuff. The bus in ess would operate on a men bership scheme, I mean those who want to join have to register and pay annual fee first. There will be in dividual membership fee and family membership fee which

She said that it was so much fun to work with are cute, and very trust in g....it is trulely a very promisi ng and worthwhile career-very rewardi ng as well....

1. What kinds of small bus in ess are most popular in China?

One of the most popular small bus in esses here in China is to set up an on li ne bus in ess. You can sell anything from clothes to [wv]a ntiques[/wv to sec on d-ha nd furn iture. The in vestme nt cost is much lower tha n no rmal compa nies and you could work any time and any where as long as you have the Internet access. The process could also be fully automated as the tech no logy is ever-improv ing.

2. Why do some people ope n their own bus in ess?

The ben efits are pretty obvious, such as 'be ing you own boss' and not havi ng to follow

the daily routines. Your time is you own, though you will probably find having your own bus in ess takes far more of your time tha n what you expected.

3. What challenges and difficulties do people face when they try to have a successful small bus in ess?

Although little initial startupcost is required, the biggest challenge is getting the public to believe in you and the quality of your service. Another challenge is getting full use of your time in which way you can exert your potential into full play.

It depe nds on in dividual circumsta nces. Although salary plays an importa nt role in

choos ing a career, for n ewly graduates the opport unity to lear n weighs more tha n salary.

5. Do you think it is good to change your job frequently?

I suppose cha nging job freque ntly has both ben efits and drawbacks. As an employer,

some maintain that a pers on who cha nges jobs freque ntlyis un stable and not good for the team. I think a person who stays at the same job forever is fearful or unmotivated. I like

to see people who change to find a better fit or for career advancement

Teengers are the future of our country , and I happen to meet one who left me the most

un forgetblememory.

He is my mate whe n I was at school, n amed J. I can not say he is that kind of pers on

who can attracts meat the very first sight by the appearanee, but his optimistic attitude towards life and the com mon ground we share do matter. Actually he is the one who very patie nt and con siderate to his friends and share a lot in com mon. We both like play ing basketball, for YaoMing and Shark are our favorite idol. Every game they play must be our cup of tea. Sometimes we like going to concert to liste n to the music. How comfortable and relaxed the life would be if I am with him.

Jis not only a good friend of mine but also a hardworking person. He makes everything done well ,such as planting flowers, launderingclothes, and cleaning in order to let us live in a most wonderful, cozy place on earth. What impresses me most is that he likes encouraging people like mewho feel discouraged when facing troubles. His word “tomorrow is another day ” always lingering in my mind and burying in my heart.

In my mind ,he is the perfect tee nager that I have ever see n in my spe nd a lot of

范文:

When we visited Hong Kong duri ng a win ter holiday, my school teachers took us to the world famous Hong Kong Ocean Park. That was my first time to see so many live sea animals and got ple nty of life experie ncenot available on any of my textbooks.

The Ocea n Park was very large in deed, and there was much to see in side. Nearly 3,000 fish of 280 breeds, in different colors and shapes were exhibitedthere. On the first

I was amazed by seeing such a big fish jar. As I took a closer look, I discovered really colorful fish in side, like a group of lovely little fairies. The fish were of all majorityof them I could not n ame.

I told my teacher that I wan ted to see dolph ins and sea lions, as I heard sea lions and dolph ins in the Ocea n Park were very lovely. We were led to the Dolph in Study where dolphins show how they learn from human beings. Dolphinsare lively creatures fond o friends with people. They are the most in tellige nt un dersea mammal. I really lear ned a lot that day. For example I lear ned that dolph ins are good divers. They don't have gill, so they store much oxyge n in their blood and muscle. The dolph ins we saw were from one family; they stayed together all day long and would not separate, and accompa nied each other all the time.

I found that ani mals and huma n beings had so much in com mon.

多米诺骨牌效应:=Something you learned from math=Something you learned from your family=A piece of advice=A change you had=An important stage in your life=A text message you got=A letter you got=An E-mail you got=A way of communication=An important decision you made=A person who helped you=A kind thing someone did to you=A family member you love talking to=A good parent=An elderly family member=A neighbor=A good friend=A teacher=A science course you took=A subject you love/d at school=Your personality=First day of college=Your experience of getting money as a gift=Your experience of getting congratulations=A person you helped=A thing your friend did made you admire.

Though I have many friends, my friendship with them grew up with times and mutual understanding. But I can recall that my friendship with George grew up almost all of a sudden. George is senior to me by 2-3 years and I did not meet him until I was in the 4th semester in my University. One of my term final exam's schedules was changed and I did not know that. According to my previous exam schedule I reached my University and was totally confused what to do when I heard that the exam was already over. I went to our Departmental head's office and he could not find a way around of it. He blamed me that I should have been more careful about the changes. I explained him that I was sick and did not come to university for 3-4 days and that made me unaware of the exam schedule changes. Then I found that someone who was sitting next to me in the departmental head's office asked me to meet the course teacher and explain the situation. He then escorted me to our course teacher's room and talked to the teacher. It seemed to me that George was already personally known to our teacher and they had an intimate relationship. Hearing everything the teacher agreed to arrange an exam for me next day in his office room. My friendship with George grew up after that event and albeit our age differences we found that we had many common interests and habits. We started spending time and I visited his home many times. We worked in a retail shop for about 6 months and that helped us become more intimate.

It's located in the city center of Guangzhou and its not far away from Zhongshan 6 Road, near the People's Hospital. It's a good place to go to and climb to see the Flower Pagoda, which has eight sides to it. You can also go there to pray if you are a Buddhist. It is an active temple and is also the head of the Guangzhou Buddhist Association. You can also do a bit of shopping there if you like. Besides the souvenirs you can buy there, it also has a very lively fruit and meat market nearby, so if you just want to shop instead you can. The main feature of this place is the pagoda because it's the tallest in the city. From the outside it looks like it has only nine stories, but actually it has 17 inside. It's quite old, and was built some time in the 10th century. The temple itself is even older than that-I think it goes back to some time

The subject that I'd like to describe is Physics that was taught in our school. We had this subject in each year of our high school and each year a new teacher used to taught us the subject. Even we had to read physics in college as Science was my major. I remember Mr. Alex, Burter, John, David and Mrs. Jeniffer took Physics in different years. We were lucky to have good Physics teachers who could make the subject interesting and enjoyable. Our teachers used to tell us stories first and then would explain the theory, experiment or math of the text books. They would then relate the story with the study. Later they would explain us the real examples and facts. Sometimes they used to take us to the Physics labs and explain how something works. I have learned numerous things of physics from simple definition of mass to the complex explanation of Einstein's Theory of Relativity. My foundation of physics grew up and expanded with the help of those teachers. The subject itself is utterly interesting if one can have passion for it. It is one such subject that one would start loving it if s/he starts understanding the underlying concepts of it. Physics is all around us and the lesson I learned from my School had helped me greatly throughout my higher academic years. Tips for answering this cue card topic: You should pick a real academic subject like Math, English, Physics, Chemistry, Literature, and Biology to answer this cue card. Then quickly take some notes including the following: 1. In which class was it taught? 2. Do not pick a subject taught in your college or university level as the cue card is asking you to talk about a subject taught in your school. 3. Try to remember a teacher's name. You can mention multiple teachers' name as the same subject in school is taught by different teachers in different classes. 4. Give a short detail what the subject. For example: The Geography would discuss about the Earth, the other planet in the solar system, atmosphere, and climate changes etc. and you should mention those. 5. Next describe how the teacher taught the subject and what things you learned from the class. 6. Mention some interesting things you learned from the class and how the teacher made things easier to understand for you. 7. Describe how interested you were about the subject and the class. 8. Relate how this subject has later helped you/ influenced you in your education and learning process. 9. Finally give a conclusion by mentioning how beneficial the subject for students. If you pick Math try to focus on the following issues: 1. The teacher was very good explaining the intricacies of the subject. 2. You learned many theories and formulas of math. 3. This teacher explained how math would be helpful for the rest of the life and academic years.

We often have guests, visitors and relatives in our home and for special occasions like a birthday party several invited guests come to our home. One such occasion and special guest I remember came to our home 2-3 years back. He was a famous writer and came to our home on occasion of my older sister’s marriage ceremony. He was known to the father of the bridegroom’s senior brother and a well-known figure in our city. His name is Mr. Jonathon Durik (…say a name you like…) and when he arrived all of us recognized him. The marriage ceremony was a big program and almost 200 people attended the ceremony. We had to prepare for the program for about a week before the due date. This ceremony was arranged in our own house and we had been tremendously busy for the occasion. A marriage ceremony is a big arrangement and my parents were very busy as well as sad that my sister would be leaving our house after her marriage. This was a big event and there were lots of things to be done. I had been so busy and had to greet and serve so many guests that I had hard time concentrating. The bridegroom and their relatives arrived and we got even busier. They introduced the guests to us and one of them was Mr. Durik. I greeted him and helped him sitting in a comfortable couch. I got busy with other stuffs and came to the guests time to time to look after if he needed anything. I asked what type of foods he would prefer to eat and took him to the dinning place. I had a short conversation with him
