Test1

Passage 1

Johnson decided he did not need an academy… Johnson wrote the definitions ….to his own t ime F题干中提到在字典编撰的过程中忽略了以前的字典编撰者的工作,而我们在文章第六段第十行找到he had to draw on the best of all previous dictionaries,正好矛盾。 H题干中提到字典的定义以原创著称,而我们在文章第六段第八行找到he did not expect to achieve complete originality,正好矛盾,故不选。

此外,在这段话中,available与文章中的to hand 对应,in excess of 与over对应,hailed与recognized as 对应。

DR Johnson,…..as well as in his own time as in ours.

Johnson decided he did not need an academy…

13. 划出定位词assistant, publication of dictionary,抓住解题关键字not all,我们在文章第五段最后一句he was also helped by six assistants, two of whom died whist….

15. .划出定位词explanation, teacher-subject experiment,我们在文章A段最后一句找到对应点,这句话中的短语in the cause of 即为题干explanation的同义替换。

16. 划出定位词pupil, identity,我们在文章B段第六行找到the supposed pupil was in reality an actor hired by Milgram….

18. 划出定位词general aim, sociobiological study ,我们在文章I段第四行thus, in essence, is the problem of modern sociobiology….

19.划出定位词persuaded, continue,我们在文章C段倒数第四行you have no choice, you must go on .

其中的help跟文章中的have a positive effect on对应。

Milgram told the teacher-subject to ignore the reactions of the pupil, and to ….

其中的be willing to 跟题干中的willingness对应。

23. 划出定位词Yale University ,我们在文章A段找到…Stanley Milgram of Yale University tested 40 subjects from all walks of life这句话并不能肯定受试者就是来自耶鲁大学的心理学学生。

24. 划出定位词survival mechanism ,抓住该题解题关键字may, could be,positive,我们在文章F段找到a modern hard-core sociobiologist might even go so far as …on the plains and in the caves…

25. 划出定位词sociobiological explanation,抓住该题解题关键字personal, authority,我们在文章H段找到thus, in this explanation the subject merges his unique…system of authority 以及I段here we have two radically different explanations for…institutional authority f igure.

27. 划出定位词environmentalist,抓住该题解题关键字pessimistic, a number of reasons,我们在文章第一段定位for many environmentalists, the world seems to be getting worse. They have developed a….这句话中的getting worse与pessimistic 对应,a hit-list of 与a number of对应。

29. 划出定位词starving people,抓住该题解题关键字increased,我们在文章第二段进行定位,找到fewer people are starving.

31. 划出定位词industrialization,抓住该题解题关键字pollution, link to,我们在文章第二段第七行and finally, most forms of environmental pollution…ass ociated with…industrialization,文章这句话说明了工业化早期的确引起了一些污染问题。

32. 划出定位词economic growth, best ,抓住该题解题关键字slow down ,我们在文章第二段第九行and therefore best cured not by restricting economic growth, but by accelerating it 表明控制污染的最好方式不是减慢经济发展速度,而是加速经济发展。

33.划出特殊定位词paragraph 4,文章第四段第二句scientific funding goes mainly to areas with many problems.

34.划出定位词worldwide fund for nature,对应到文章第五段第二行,understandably, perhaps, they sometimes overstate their arguments.

35. 划出特殊定位词paragraph 6,我们在文章第六段找到对应,that would matter less if people applied the same….as they do to lobby groups in other fields.

36. 划出定位词newspaper print,对应到文章第七段,newspaper and broadcasters are there to provide what the public wants.

37. 划出定位词America’s waste,对应到文章的第八段第三行yet, even if America’s trash output ….the entire united states.

38. 划出定位词global warming,我们会在文章中第二段最后一句global warming –does appear to be a phenomenon that is going to extend well into future .

Selling Digital Music without Copy-protection Makes Sense A. It was uncharacteristically low-key for the industry’s greatest showman. But the essay published this week by Steve Jobs, the boss of Apple,on his firm’s website under the unassuming title “Thoughts on Music” has nonetheless provoked a vigorous debate about the future of digital music, which Apple dominates with its iPod music-player and iTunes music-store. At issue is “digital rights management” (DRM)—the technology guarding downloaded music against theft. Since there is no common standard for DRM, it also has the side-effect that songs purchased for one type of music-player may not work on another. Apple’s DRM system, called FairPlay, is the most widespread. So it came as a surprise when Mr. Jobs called for DRM for digital music to be abolished. B. This is a change of tack for Apple. It has come under fire from European regulators who claim that its refusal to license FairPlay to other firms has “locked in” customers. Since music from the iTunes store cannot be played on non-iPod music-players (at least not without a lot of fiddling), any iTunes buyer will be deterred from switching to a device made by a rival firm, such as Sony or Microsoft. When French lawmakers drafted a bill last year compelling Apple to open up FairPlay to rivals, the company warned of “state-sponsored piracy”. Only DRM, it implied, could keep the pirates at bay. C. This week Mr. Jobs gave another explanation for his former defence of DRM: the record companies made him do it. They would make their music available to the iTunes store only if Apple agreed to protect it using DRM. They can still withdraw their catalogues if the DRM system is compromised. Apple cannot license FairPlay to others, says Mr Jobs, because it would depend on them to produce security fixes promptly. All DRM does is restrict consumer choice and provide a barrier to entry, says Mr Jobs; without it there would be far more stores and players, and far more innovation. So, he suggests, why not do away with DRM and sell music unprotected?“This is

Next Year Marks the EU's 50th Anniversary of the Treaty A. After a period of introversion and stunned self-disbelief,continental European governments will recover their enthusiasm for pan-European institution-building in . Whether the European public will welcome a return to what voters in two countries had rejected so short a time before is another matter. B. There are several reasons for Europe’s recovering self-confidence. For years European economies had been lagging dismally behind America (to say nothing of Asia), but in the large continental economies had one of their best years for a decade, briefly outstripping America in terms of growth. Since politics often reacts to economic change with a lag,’s improvement in economic growth will have its impact in , though the recovery may be ebbing by then. C. The coming year also marks a particular point in a political cycle so regular that it almost seems to amount to a natural law. Every four or five years, European countries take a large stride towards further integration by signing a new treaty: the Maastricht treaty in 1992, the Treaty of Amsterdam in 1997, the Treaty of Nice in . And in they were supposed to ratify a European constitution, laying the ground for yet more integration—until the calm rhythm was rudely shattered by French and Dutch voters. But the political impetus to sign something every four or five years has only been interrupted, not immobilised, by this setback. D. In the European Union marks the 50th anniversary of another treaty—the Treaty of Rome, its founding charter. Government leaders have already agreed to celebrate it ceremoniously, restating their commitment to “ever closer union” and the basic ideals of European unity. By itself, and in normal circumstances, the EU’s 50th-birthday greeting to itself would be fairly meaningless, a routine expression of European good fellowship. But it does not take a Machiavelli to spot that once governments have signed the declaration (and it seems unlikely anyone would be so uncollegiate as to veto

Question 1 答案:TRUE 关键词:large numbers of people, build the pyramids 定位原文: 第1段第2句: “The conventional picture is that…” 解题思路: 此题通过定位词可以迅速定位至首段第2句话,题干对文章定位句的概括性改写分析如下:generally believed — conventional picture, large numbers of people — tens of thousands of slaves. Question 2 答案:FALSE 关键词:hieroglyph, Egyptian monument 定位原文: 首段第5句: “While perusing a book…” Question 3 答案:NOT GIVEN 关键词:experiment, bird flight 定位原文: 无 解题思路: 题干的定位信息在文章中未出现,此题为最典型的“原文完全未提及型”,故答案为NOT GIVEN Question 4 答案: TRUE 关键词:theory 定位原文: 第4段首句:”Earlier this year...”

常见的比较关系词: 比较级:more/ less /adj-er than… 同级比较:as…as…/the same as…/equal/ like 试题中若出现以上比较关系词,需标记题中的比较对象(A 、B),并明确比较逻辑(如A比B更聪明),即可快速完成审题。如: 39. It is easier to find meaning in the field of science than in the field of art. 确定比较对象:A – field of science (科学领域)、B – field of art (艺术领域) 2.

具有隐含比较关系的表达: prefer to… compare to/compare with/contrast similar to…/similarly superior to/inferior to unusual 同样,考生在判定题干存在比较关系后,需标记题中的比较对象并明确比较逻辑。如: 35. Teachers say they prefer suggestopedia to traditional approaches to language teaching. – Test 1, Cambridge 7 1.确定比较对象:A –suggestopedia(暗示教学)、B –traditional approaches(传统教学方法) 2. 题干中A、B存在比较关系但原文A、B不存在比较关系时,答案应为未提及——NOT GIVEN。

Passage1 Question 1 答案: H 关键词: national policy 定位原文: H段第1句“The New Zealand Government…” 另外,在该段其它语句中也提到the strategy recognises..., Objective 3...is to provide... Question 2 答案: C 关键词: global team 定位原文: C段最后一句“The International Institute of…” Question 3 答案: B 关键词: hypothesis, reason, growth in classroom noise 定位原文: B段第3句“Nelson and Soil have also suggested...” Nelson and Soil have also suggested... This all amounts to heightened activity and noise levels,与题干中的one reason相对应 Question 4

此外,在这段话中,available与文章中的to hand 对应,in excess of 与over对应,hailed与recognized as 对应。 6. DR Johnson,…..as well as in his own time as in ours.
