一、被动语态翻译法

1)变为汉语的主动形式。

Eg:

It leads the discussion to extremes at the outset:it invites you to think that animals should be treated either with the consideration humans extend to other humans,or with no consideration at all.这种说法从一开始就将讨论引向

两个极端,它使人们认为应该这样对待动物:要么像对待人类自身一样关切体谅,

2)译成具有被动意义的汉语结构。

Eg:

二、分译法

英语长句子比较多,汉语句子相对而言比较短。在翻译时可以改变原文结构,

把原文的某个成分从原来的结构中分离出来,译成一个独立成分、从句或并列分

句。

Eg:It has been rightly stated that this situation is a threat to international security.这个局势对国际安全是个威胁,这样的说法是完全正确的。

三、合译法

和分译法不同,合译法是将不同的句子成分组合在一起,使其更符合汉语的表达方法。

Science moves forward,they say,not so much through the insights of great men of genius as because of more ordinary things like improved techniques and tools.他们说科学的发展与其说源于天才伟人的真知灼识,不如

说源于改进了的技术和工具等等更为普遍的东西。(将英语的一个句子结构翻译成一个词组)

四、顺序调整法

一般来说,翻译时应该按照句子原来的顺序进行,但由于英汉两种语言中定

语、状语和一些其他成分的位置不完全相同,翻译时需要做一定的调整(例如采

用倒译法),使其更符合汉语的习惯。

Eg:

The true measure of the danger is represented by the hazards we will encounter if we enter the new age of technology without first evaluating our responsibility to environment.如果我们进入了技术新时代而不首先估价我们对

五、反译法

一个问题有时可以从不同的角度来解释说明。有些句子英语是从正面说的,汉语可以从反面来解释。

1)否定译成肯定。

Eg:

I never passed the theatre but I thought of his last performance.每一次经

2)肯定译成否定。

六、几种特殊否定句式的翻译法

“no more…than翻译成汉语“和……一样不”

Eg:

The heart is no more intelligent than the stomach,for they are both controlled by the brain.脏和胃一样不能思维,都受大脑支配。

Eg:

There is no reason they should limit how much vitamin you take,any more than they can limit how much water you drink.他们没有理由限定你吃多少维生素,就如同他们不能限定你喝多少水一样。

“not so much…as”翻译成“与其说……,不如说……”

Eg:

It was not so much the many blows he received as the lack of fighting spirit that led to his losing the game.与其说他输了比赛是多次被击中,不如说是自己缺乏斗志。

There is no agreement whether methodology refers to the concepts peculiar to historical work in general or to the research techniques appropriate to the various branches of historical inquiry.所谓方法论是指一般的历史研究中

七、定语从句翻译法

1)合译法:把定语从句放在被修饰的词语之前,从而将英语复合句翻译成汉语单句。

Eg:

Congress made public a survey of human rights in105countries that receive U.S.aid.国会公布了关于接受美国援助的105个国家的人权情况调查报告。

2)分译法:根据定语从句的不同情况,我们可以将其翻译成并列分句、其它从句或独立句等。

Eg:

Anyone who stops absorbing new knowledge is certain to lag behind.任何

人如果停止吸取新知识,就肯定会落后。(译为条件状语从句)

The strike would prevent the docking of ocean steamships which require assistance of tugboats.罢工会使远洋航船不能靠岸,因为他们需要拖船的帮助。(译成原因状语从句)

A geological prospecting engineer who had made a spectral analysis of ores discovered a new open-cut coalmine.一位地质勘探工程师对光谱进行了分析之后,发现了新的露天煤矿。(译为时间状语结构)

八、主语从句翻译法

1)以that,what,who,where,whatever等代词引导的主语从句,可以将从句翻译成“的”字结构。

Eg:It is important that science and technology be pushed forward as quickly as possible.重要的是要把科学技术搞上去。

Whoever breaks the law will be punished.凡是犯法的人都要受到法律的制裁。(主语从句与主句合译成简单句,按顺序译出)

2)也可以译成“主-谓-宾”结构,从句本身做句子的主语,其余部分按原文顺序

译出。

Eg:

Whether the Government should increase the financing of pure science at the expense of technology or vice versa(反之)often depends on the issue of which is seen as the driving force.政府究竟是以牺牲对技术的经费投入来增加对纯理论科学的经费投入,还是相反,这往往取决于把哪一方看作是驱动的力量。

3)分译法:把原来的状语从句从整体结构中分离出来,译成另一个相对独立得单句。

Eg:

It has been rightly stated that this situation is a threat to international security.这个局势对国际安全是个威胁,这样的说法是完全正确的。(It是形式主语,that this situation is a threat to international security是真正的宾语)

九、宾语从句翻译法

由that,what,how,where等词引导的宾语从句一般按照原文顺序翻译,即顺译法。

Eg:

Scientists have reason to think that a man can put up with far more radiation than0.1rem without being damaged.科学家们有理由认为人可以忍受远超过0.1雷姆的辐射而不受伤害。

Eg:

We wish to inform you that we specialize in the export of Chinese textiles and shall be glad to enter into business relations with you on the basis of equality and mutual benefit.我公司专门办理中国纺织品出口业务,并愿在平等

互利的基础上同贵公司建立业务关系。

十、状语从句翻译法

1)顺译法:按照原文顺序翻译。

Eg:

If the negotiations between the rich nations and the poor nations make headway,it is intended that a ministerial session in December should be arranged.如果富国和穷国之间的谈判获得进展的话,就打算在12月份安排召开

部长级会议。

2)逆译法:把位于句末的从句放在句首。

Eg:

Obviously,there would be no point in investing in a computer if you had to check all its answers,but people should also rely on their own internal computers and check the machine when they have the feeling that something has gone wrong.显然,如果计算机给出的全部答案均需要核查,花钱买计算机

就毫无意义。不过,人们也应该信赖自身内部的计算能力,在认为计算机有问题

3)分译法:有时也可以译为并列句。

Eg:

考研英语指导:翻译题实例讲解 翻译活动本身是一个复杂的心理思维活动过程,任何做翻译的人都会感到翻译的艰巨性。“一名之立,踌躇旬月”就是说要找到一个贴切的词来翻译,常常需要花上数月的功夫。考研英语翻译在考试中的时间限制和紧张状态是由不得我们去“慢条斯理地字斟句酌”的。在翻译的“理解——表达——校对”三个环节中,大多数初学翻译的人,感觉最明显的问题是:理解英语不容易,表达成汉语不轻松。如何理解和如何表达,就成了大多数感觉自己英语基础知识比较匮乏的考生的严重问题了。这里,笔者提出了一个更加轻松、更加容易掌握、更加实用的应对考研翻译的策略——拆分与组合。它可以让广大考生在有限的英语基础知识下,突破考研翻译,获得理想的分数。 一、理解英语原文 拆分语法结构 如前面所述,在翻译的基本过程中,理解英语原文是我们进行翻译的前提。一位法国译者曾经说过:“翻译就是理解和使人理 解”(Traduire,c''est comprendre e tfaire comprendre)。说得通俗一点,就是你在动手翻译之前,必须要把英语原文看懂。理解原文是整个翻译过程的第一步。这是最关键、也是最容易出问题的一步。许多考生在复习的时候发现自己的译文含糊不清、语蔫不详的地方,正是自己没有透彻理解原文的地方。在试卷中,大部分的翻译错误都起因于考生的理解错误。没有正确的理解,考生传达的就不是原文的意思,这样就可能扭曲原文的意思,造成严重的扣分现象,甚至会不得分。 由于英语语言具有“形合”的特点,就是说,英语的句子无论多么复杂,都是通过一些语法手段和逻辑手段连接起来的“象葡萄藤一样”的结构。所以,在理解英语句子的时候,理解并拆分句子的语法结构和逻辑结构也就自然而然地成了我们解题的突破口。考研翻译中的所有句子基本上都是结构复杂的长难句,理清句子结构层次就显得至关重要。在翻译句子之前,先通读全句,注意一边读一边拆分句子的语法结构。 怎么拆分呢?有的同学认为自己英语基础知识比较差,对英语句子的语法结构不太理解。没有关系!正因为英语语法结构和逻辑结构比较明显,在理解英语的时候,我们可以把主句和从句拆分出来,或者把主干部分和修饰部分拆分出来。 说得更具体一点,可以寻找下面一些“信号词”来对英语句子进行拆分,进而更加有效地理解英语原文: 1.基本原则:把主句和从句拆分出来,把主干部分和修饰部分拆分出来。 2.连词:如and,or,but,yet,for等并列连词连接着并列句;还有连接状语从句的连接词,如:when,as,since,until,before,

考研英语翻译基本功 对于每一个英语句子的翻译, 并不只是使用一种翻译方法, 而是多种翻译方法的综合运用, 这在英语长句的翻译中表现得尤为突出。长句在科技性的文体中的出现极为频繁, 因此也就成为研究生入学考试的重点, 通过对近年来试题的分析我们可以看出, 所考查的绝大多数划线的部分都是长句。在翻译长句时, 首先,不要因为句子太长而产生畏惧心理,因为,无论是多么复杂的句子,它都是由一些基本的成分组成的。其次要弄清英语原文的句法结构, 找出整个句子的中心内容及其各层意思, 然后分析几层意思之间的相互逻辑关系, 再按照汉语的特点和表达方式, 正确地译出原文的意思, 不必拘泥于原文的形式。 一、英语长句的分析 一般来说, 造成长句的原因有三方面: 修饰语过多; 并列成分多; 语言结构层次多。在分析长句时可以采用下面的方法: 找出全句的主语、谓语和宾语, 从整体上把握句子的结构。 找出句中所有的谓语结构、非谓语动词、介词短语和从句的引导词。 分析从句和短语的功能, 例如, 是否为主语从句, 宾语从句, 表语从句等,若是状语, 它是表示时间、原因、结果、还是表示条件等等)。 分析词、短语和从句之间的相互关系, 例如, 定语从句所修饰的先行词是哪一个等。 注意插入语等其他成分。 注意分析句子中是否有固定词组或固定搭配。 下面我们结合一些实例来进行分析: 例1.
