I want to talk about my nephew, Martin. He is the son of my sister. He is about 7 years old now, and he is

studying at a primary school. When he was about 3 years old, he began to learn painting, and he spends a lot of time on that every day. He likes to draw cartoon characters like Garfield and Snoopy. Last year, he won a national prize for painting, which gives him more motivation. He also likes to play with his friends. Nowadays,

there are a lot of children who are lonely. My sister wants him to have more opportunities to enjoy his childhood. On weekends, my nephew is encouraged to invite his classmates or neighbors to come. They enjoy the games that they like. They play board games, chess or monopoly. It?s really terrific to see so many children hanging around. Besides, my nephew is also polite. He knows that he should offer his seats to the elders on the bus, and he will not have snacks until those who are older have taken their share. I guess that?s why he is popular.

Part three

Interviewer: Who are luckier, children in the past or at present?

Candidate: In the past, children didn?t have a lot of toys or snacks, but they didn?t have a lot of pressure in their study. Nowadays, children have rich material life, but they don?t have the fun children had before. Interviewer: What?s the pressure brought to children by their schools and parents?

Candidate: Chinese children are the only child of their family, and parents have great expectations on them. Interviewer: What do you think of primary school education in China?

Candidate: Children are not taught to be creative. Instead, they are modeled in the same way. If children have different ideas from teachers, those ideas will be criticized. To be frank, I guess the primary school education is a failure.

Interviewer: What did you like when you were a child?

Candidate: I liked to play games and enjoyed going to the mountains on weekends with my parents. Interviewer: How can parents educate their children?

Candidate: Parents should try to spend some time communicating with their children and know about what the children are thinking about. Besides, parents should always set examples for children.

Interviewer: What?s the difference between Chinese children and western children?

Candidate: Chinese children are more obedient, and they like to follow the instructions of their elderly. On the other hand, western children are better at their creativity and imagination.

Interviewer: What?s the difference between western parents and Chinese parents?

Candidate: Western parents tend to treat their children like friends, and they try to reason with their children. Children feel respected. Chinese parents always want to be authoritative in front of their children. Interviewer: Do you think that young people should have more freedom?

Candidate: Yes. Young people in China are controlled by their parents, and they should be free to make decisions for themselves.

Interviewer: Do you think that parents care too much about children?s education?

Candidate: Chinese parents want their children to be the best among the peers and they spend much money sending children to learn different skills like dancing, singing or painting. I think they care too much about children?s education.

Adventurous person

从事冒险活动的人

这个人不一定是身边的人,也有可能是影视中的角色,也有可能是名人或者历史人物。考生最好准备一下相关的极限运动名称,词汇。

I got to know about this adventurous person from a TV program. There was a Japanese man, who is about 60 years old. He decided to do something he had always wanted to do after his retirement. He wanted to conquer all the mountains in his country. He started the journey in June, and then he climbed over 100 mountains in Japan within

one year. When he was interviewed in the program, he quoted a famous mountaineer. He said, “The mountain is there.” When I was watching the program, I was quite impressed. Everyone has a dream, and not many people have the courage to fulfill their dream, but he did it. I admire him, and I really want to be like him some day in the future.

A person in history

历史人物 A person in history

谈论这个卡片的时候要注意中外文化的差距。很多外国人不了解中国的历史人物,所以在谈论的时候

要特别注意表述方式。不要准备特别有名的历史人物。可以谈论张衡,西施,王昭君等有趣的人物。 Part two

I?d like to talk about the first female emperor in Chinese history. She was Wu Zetian. She was born of a royal family during the Tang Dynasty. She entered Emperor Taizong's harem when she was 13 and that of the successive emperor Gaozong after. She was a master of manipulation and she persuaded the emperor to declare her one rank below the empress consort. Eventually, the Emperor married Wu. When Gaozong suffered a stroke five years later, Wu governed behind the scenes. She created a secret police force to spy on her opposition, jailing or killing those who stood i n her way. After Gaozong?s death she reigned through puppet emperors, her sons Zhongzong and Ruizong. She finally proclaimed herself Emperor, the

first woman to do so. She died shortly after. Despite her ruthless climb to power, her rule was benign. Wu reduced the size of the standing army, and replaced aristocrats in the government with scholars. She was fair to the peasantry, lowering taxes, raising agricultural production, and strengthening public works. Wu also campaigned to elevate the status of women and had scholars write biographies of famous women. She was considered to be the first one in Chinese history to try to improve the social status of women.

Part three

Is it important to learn history?

Absolutely. History is essential to us as we will learn some lessons from the events in the past and avoid making the same mistakes again in the future.

Do you think children should learn the history of their own country or that of other countries?

I guess children should learn both national and international history. Once they have learned the history of

their country, they are going to be proud of the long tradition.

What?s the importance of knowing the family history?

I really don?t know much about my family history. I just heard from my grandfather that his grandfather

came from another province, and they moved to the present place about a hundred years ago.

Where did you get information about your family history?

Most of time, I heard the stories from my grandparents. They told me about their past events.

What do you think about forgetting history?

I think it?s unforgivable. Everyone should remember their history. It is the root of a nation. Without it,

people have got no roots.

What do you think of recording history with computer photos and other things?

Well, it?s a good way as well, but the only problem is that photos are going to be lost if there is something wrong with the computer system. Printed photos are better choices.

A leader you admire

你所崇拜的领导人

在谈论这张卡片的时候一定要注意。尽量少谈论政治人物。很多考生都喜欢谈论毛主席,周总理,但是考官听了太多次了,所以一定要谈论令考官感兴趣的内容。

Part two

I?d like to talk about a businessman. He is Niu Gensheng, chairman of Mengniu Dairy Group. He has experienced a lot of ups and downs i n his life. He has a motto, that it, few people have gone through the experience from having nothing to possessing something, and then back to state of having nothing again.

Gaining possessions brings one satisfaction because his value is acknowledged, and giving up what one

has ear ns him respect. He has won people?s respect because he has donated a lot of money to charity, which not many entrepreneurs can do. He has made an impression on me also because once he said that while many Chinese firms have yet to reach a stage where they can shoulder the cost of corporate social responsibility. It gave priority to the environment from the start. He began a project in 2004 using cow manure to generate electricity for civil use. The company produces 800 tons of cow manure e day. He believed that "By doing this, farmers are happy, society is happy, those drinking milk are happy and those realizing that we are not damaging the environment are happy." I really admire his courage and soul.

Part three

Do you want to be a leader?

Well, I don?t want to be a leader as being a leader means a lot of pressure. What you do is going to be the focus of others. If you make a wrong move, maybe the whole team is going to fail.

What qualities should a leader have?

A good leader is supposed to have sharp insight. He or she should know when to take actions to compete with his opponents in business.

How do you think we can improve the leaders? quality?

They may take the courses for the leaders. They should learn how to cope with people of different personalities. They should also take the advice from others.

Do you think a leader should be perfect in all field?

Not necessarily. The most important quality for a leader is the strategy of managing people. He should have the charm of attracting elites from all walks of life.

Why do we need a leader?

A leader is going to give us global views and tell us when to take the right action. As long as we follow their instructions, we are going to succeed.

What can they do?

Leaders are going to make plans for us, allocate the tasks between us. Also, they know what the best solution is for a problem.

Why do some people not want to be leaders?

Well, for me, a leader means a lot of responsibilities. Other people?s future relies on me. I have to be extremely cautious. I don?t want to worry about this all the time.

What is the world going to be like without leaders?

I guess the world is going to be a chaos. People?s life and property cannot be protected. People are not going to have a safe life any longer. Anything can happen to them.

Is the communication skill important to a leader?

This skill is really essential to leader. They are supposed to express their ideas to their employees. They should also have negotiation with leaders of other organizations. That?s why they must have this kind of skill.

Is it important for leaders to take other people?s advice?

They should listen to other people?s advice, but they are going to make the final decision. As long as they believe that their moves are definitely correct, they should do it.

Do you think leaders are the examples of people?

I guess so. A lot of people admire them, and they should set a good example. Common people may want to learn from their experience.

Should leaders be heroes?

Not exactly. Some leaders are legendary. Heroes are the people who save the people, country or world. Leaders should have the powe r which will make people admire them and listen to them. That?s enough. Do they have to be right all the time?

Nobody can be right all the time. Sometimes they make wrong decisions as well, but it doesn?t matter. They should have the courage to admit their error and then readjust the direction.

What will happen if they embezzle?

They are going to be penalized by law and they result in prison. If the amount is substantial, they are going to be sentenced to life imprisonment or death penalty.

生日庆典Birthday Celebration

Part 2

I think the most memorable party is my own birthday party. It was my 19th birthday. This party was held on campus. I was sleeping that day. All at once, my classmate woke me up, and he said that my letter was in their dormitory room. I felt puzzled because I never wrote letters to anybody. Who could write to me? I went to their room with him. When we got to the door, he opened the door for me. The room was dark and I could only see many eyes. I realized I was cheated. And then they pushed me to the table. I saw a big cake on the table, and I suddenly remembered it was my birthday. Then, they sang …happy birthday to you?.

I felt pleased and deeply touched. I knew the occasion might be the only one in my life. And I will never forget that party or my classmates.

Part 3

Interviewer: Do you often have birthday celebrations?

Candidate: Yes. I have birthday celebrations every year, sometimes with my family and sometimes with my classmates or friends.

Interviewer: Are there any traditions concerning the birth of a baby?

Candidate: In the past, a celebration would be given to celebrate the birth of a male child. Friends and relatives would be invited. I think nowadays we only give some clothes or gifts to the couple having a new baby. Or sometimes we will have dinner together to celebrate.

Interviewer: What kind of parent do you intend to be?

Candidate: I will be very understanding. I hope I can have communication with my child. When my child has troub le, I?m the one that he turns to.

Interviewer: What do you think of One-Child Policy in China?

Candidate: I think this policy is necessary i n China. We have too many people in China. If we don?t carry out this policy, I believe there will be some new problems coming out.

Interviewer: Why do people in China traditionally want to have a son?

Candidate: Because China used to be an agricultural country and many people live on land. Boys are strong and will be a good labor when they grow up.

Interviewer: What sort of culture do you hope your chi ld will grow up in?

Candidate: I hope my child can grow up healthily and do what he likes. It doesn?t matter what kind of culture he grows up in.

Interviewer: Do you think birthday party should be held that day?

Ca ndidate: It?s not necessary. As long as we stay with our friends or family members, it is memorable. It doesn?t matter how we celebrate the birthday.

Interviewer: What are the differences between young people and the elder?s way of thinking bout birthday? Candidate: Most young people regard birthdays as the time to have a get-together with their friends, and they will receive a lot of gifts. As for the old, it?s the time to have a family reunion, and children will visit their parents no matter how far they are from home.

Interviewer: What are the differences between children's birthday and adult's birthday?

Candidate: Parents tend to have special parties for children, and they will buy gifts and invite friends to come. As for adults, birthdays are the time to have meals with family.

Interviewer: Which birthday is the special one for Chinese children? Why?

Candidate: I guess the first birthday is the most special one, and it is the time for parents to hold big celebrations. Friends and relatives will give some red eggs to them. They will wish the children good luck and a bright future.

Interviewer: What are the special days for you? Why?

Candidate: There is no special day for me. Maybe birthdays and anniversaries are essential to me. I will do something different on that day.

Interviewer: What are the important celebrations for Chinese?

Candidate: Weddings are the important occasions for the Chinese, and nowadays if children are admitted to a university, their parents will have a dinner party for them.

Interviewer: Is it good to give money as gifts?

Candidate: I don?t think so. Money as gifts cannot express our concern and emotions for others. It is considered to be too materialistic in China. If we care about a person, maybe we should make an object by hand and give it to our friends.

婚礼Wedding

Ok, I am going to give you a topic now. You can prepare for one minute and you can talk about it for two minutes.

I want to talk about the wedding ceremony of my colleague. She got married about five years ago. The

wedding ceremony was held in a restaurant which is called “Red Rose”. Many people were present. The bride was in a red dress which looked very striking. She toasted with each of us and every guest wished the new couple good luck and happiness and hoped their love could last forever. When she passed by me, I asked her in private, “How do you feel?” She gave me a shy smile and said, “My heart is beating very fast and I feel very excited.” After a little while, we asked them to perform for us. They sang a song together.

We cheered and clapped our hands while listening. This kind of wedding is very common in China . And marriage is a kind of strong tie between two people. The bride and the bridegroom will dress up and red decorations can be seen everywhere because it means luck in China. Sometimes we play tricks on the newlyweds to make the atmosphere better.

Part three

What?s the l egal age for marriage in China?

According to our law, females are allowed to get married at the age of twenty, while men should wait until after they are twenty-two.

When do people get married now?

Chinese people tend to get marriage when they are about thirty years old. At that time, they are mature and know how to shoulder the responsibility of a family.

What will it be like in the future?

I guess there is a tendency that some Chinese people prefer to remain single, or they get married rather

late.

In UK, people get married when they are 18 years old. Is it ok?

I guess as long as people know what they want, it doesn?t matter how old they are. Besides, westerners

know more about love and marriage than Chinese people, so I think they can get married earlier.

Do you think that the legal age for marriage is going to change in the future?

I don?t think so. There is no need for us to change it.

Objects (事物)

School/university/college

要熟悉国外的教育体系,school 和university 是截然不同的。如果问的是school, 这个地方一定要准备小学,初中或高中,千万不要谈论大学。

Part Two

Candidate: I?d like to introduce you the high school I attended. It was not very big but rather clean and beautiful. At that time, there were about 1000 students coming from different parts of the city. There were two buildings. One was five-storey high, and the other one was a building for accommodation. We got advanced facilities. We had basketball fields, a football pitch and tennis courts as well. After we finished our study, we would do our favorite sports on the playground. We had a lot of fun. When I was studying there, I found it rather good to study there because there were many foreign teachers. They told us some interesting things about their country and we would tell them something about China as well. We had the chance to practice our spoken English. We also had very colorful extracurricular activities. Students often took part in some activities together. I joined a DIY club, and we learned to make things by hand.

校内建筑building in your university or school

The landmark building in my university is the administration building, which is located in the center. There are seven stories. After you enter the building, there is a stature in the center of the main hall. It is said that the person used to be the headmaster of the school and he made great contributions to the school. When you walk along the corridor, you can see the paintings or calligraphies of famous people. You can read about their anecdotes and mottos as well as their achievements in their field. The building also has got multi-media classrooms where students can surf the internet, have computer-assisted learning. Famous people give speeches in the place, and that classroom can accommodate about 500 students. There are mainly offices of different departments. The teachers deal with students? daily routines like registration, enrollment as well as arrangements of classes.

Part Two

What are the differences between the schools in the country and the schools in the city?

The schools in the countryside can?t find qualified teachers and their textbooks or study aids are quite primitive. As for the schools in the city, they can choose the teachers that they like. Their quality is higher than those in the countryside.

What are the differences between their facilities?

The schools in the countryside haven?t got advanced facilities like OHP or multi-media classrooms, and their teaching aids are simple. In the city, schools even have sports facilities like swimming pool, gym or theater. What are the differences between the opinions of a five-year-old child and the elders to the buildings?

The 5-year-old children care about the appearance of the building. They are crazy about the snacks or food in the building. Well, the adults always pay attention to the security of the building. They care about whether the building has modern facilities.

What are the benefits of building dormitories for a university?

It is convenient for students who live in the dormitory to go to class, lab and library. In the dormitory, the students can meet a lot of friends from other countries. They will learn how to get along with others and share with others.

What are the benefits of holding official matches for schools?

The schools will be more famous in the local community, and news about them will be in the front pages of the local newspaper.

What do you think of offering facilities like classrooms to the public?

Schools will earn money, but the security of the school is going to be a problem.

What are the new technologies used in buildings?

The building has got video surveillance in its hall, lift and corridors to monitor the visitors. Dynamic technology has been adopted to make the buildings have a good foundation to resist the earthquake.

老师

在这个话题里面会用到一些跟学科有关的词汇。然后考生要注意谈论相关的事件,就是老师给你印象最深

的一件事。

Part two

I have many teachers in my years of education, and there is only one teacher who will remain in my memory forever. His name is Tom, and he taught me spoken English in a language school last year. He?s not tall but he?s energetic. He comes from America. He?s humorous but in class he was strict with us. We were not allowed to speak Chinese and had to take a quiz every day. If you failed, you had to stay in the classroom studying until you could talk to him in English fluently. One day, I left my textbook in the classroom, and when I returned, it was already 9 o?clock i n the evening. Much to my surprise, Tom was still there helping some of my classmates improving their pronunciation. And his voice was low and husky, I was quite sure he didn?t have dinner. He made a strong impression on me because of his responsibility. I will remember him forever.

雅思口语话题:重要的社会关系

雅思口语话题:重要的社会关系 Q: What other types of relationships, apart from friends and family, are important in people’s lives today? 构思: 老师, 提供人生指导, 痛苦的时候给与鼓励, 迷茫的时候给与方向 同事: 工作, 职场互相竞争, 共同提高, 打拼不在孤独, 而且是将来可能的朋友. Answer: I think teachers are also important people in our lives. They not only give us knowledge, but guidance when we’re not sure about life as well. When we’re in pain, they give us energy and encouragement; When we’re lost, they provide us a clear direction again. They’re the light house in our lives. Apart from teachers, your colleagues are also indispensable to you. You compete against each other, and much growth can be achieved through such competition. Your professional life is no longer lonely. And what’s more, these people can become your future friends. (94 words) Q: How relationships with neighbors where you live where you live changed in recent years? How? 构思: 原来象一家人, 天天交流. 现在, 各回各家, 过自己的生活,没有交流, 象陌生人. 人与人之间变得indifferent, isolated, 孤独了 Answer: I didn’t want to see this happen but sadly the relationship between neighbors from where I live changed negatively over the past years. I remember when I was young, all my neighbors were like my family members. We were chatting all the time, we exchange greetings everyday, and we even visit each other home often. At that time, Chinese people lived in dormitory-style buildings. And many families share the same kitchen and same bathroom. So people were very close to each other. But in the past few years, since we’ve moved into an apartment building. We became apart from our neighbors. We hardly ever talk to each other. And we became more indifferent to each other. So, in a sense, modern people are lonely because we’re more isolated than before. (130 words) Q: How important do you think it is for a person to spend some time alone? 构思: spend some quality time with yourself 优质时间 be yourself, no requirement from others 没有别人的要求, 做自己 thinking, summarizing life总结生活

You should say: When and where you had the trip Who you went with Why you had the trip by bike

And explain how you felt about it. 参考范文 I’d like to share with you an interesting historical event that happened in Xia Dynasty. It’s a story in our history textbook about a stupid king whose name I couldn’t remember exactly. Anyway, this king married a queen who was drop-dead gorgeous, however, there’s one thing that really bugged him, and that is, his queen hardly ever smiled, and that’s how she got the nickname “Ice Queen”. The King racked his brains trying to find a way to make her smile, but failed every time. He even promised that anyone who could put a smile on the queen’s face w ould get a thousand boxes of gold. One day, someone at the court suggested that the king could light the warning beacons that are normally used to summon armies from surrounding states in times of danger. He explained, the queen must find it hilarious when the nobles arrived and realized they got played. The king thought he had a point, so he took the advice. And the guy was right. The queen did burst out laughing when she saw the nobles hurry to the court only to find that it was a false alarm. If you ask me, the king was so out of line, and the worst part is, he did the same thing several times to please
