Summary

Summary:

The passage tells us that ……(that 后面的部分原文是什么时态就用什么时态)

说明文说明的对象/现象/问题+ 解释/ 分述;

Part II.

“She brought home several Chinese and English novels, a few copies of Time and Newsweek and some textbooks. She intended to read all of them during the winter vocation.”

She brought home some books to read during the vocation.”

第一步通读全文, 领略大意;

第二步小结每一段的大意;

可以采用如下方法概括:The writer thinks that… The article gives the view that…

It must have been about 2 o’clock in the morning when I returned home. I tried to wake up my wife by ringing the doorbell, but she was fast asleep, so I got a ladder from the garden, put it against the wall, and began climbing towards the bedroom window. I was almost there when a sarcastic(挖苦的)voice below said, “I don’t think the window s need cleaning at this time of the night.” I looked down and nearly fell off the ladder when I saw a policeman. I said, “I enjoy cleaning windows at night.”I immediately regretted(后悔)answering in the way I did.

“So do I,” answered the policeman in the s ame tone(语气). “Excuse my interrupting you. I hate to interrupt a man when he’s busy working, but would you mind coming with me to the station?”

“Well, I’d prefer to stay here,” I said. “You see, I’ve forgotten my key.”

“Your what?” he called.

“My key,” I shouted.

Fortunately, the shouting woke up my wife who opened the window just as the policeman had started to climb towards me.

Eye care is very important in all of our lives. Without eyes, we seem to be able to do nothing. But, what can we do to take care of eyes? Firstly, we should eat healthy foods. Secondly, don’t sit before a computer screen or TV for too long time and take regular rest at intervals in order to relax the eye muscles. Thirdly, having enough sleep is the best rest for eyes.

Besides those notices, you should be aware of some threats to eyes in daily lives. Excessive exposure to bright sunlight is harmful to eyes, therefore, when going out, especially in summer time, put on a pair of qualified sunglasses. Stay away from smoking. Some ingredients in cigarettes are carcinogenesis(致癌的).

Last but not least, take regular medical examines to check out the potential eye disease and prevent its deterioration(退化). Eyes are the most important sense organs and one should use proper eye care products to avoid further irritations (刺激)and ensure longevity at ease.

Printed ads do this job best. Customers can collect them and compare them. They can be used to check against the actual goods in the shops. Some ads are not very useful to the customers. Instead of helping the customer to satisfy his real needs, they set out to make him want unnecessary things by doing ads cleverly. The people who produce them understand our weakness. They set out to make us believe that what they advertise will make us cleverer, prettier, more handsome, if only we use it .For example, the voice on TV says, ―By using our SKII, it makes your skin crystal.‖ The screen shows a series of pictures

These days our society develops rapidly and forces people to rush. It appears that people have got used to being in a hurry. However, it's better for people to take their time and live their life at a slower pace than to hurry to get things done. The main reason that convinces us to oppose doing work in a hurry is the possibility of doing wrongs in a rush. When people do their jobs or take action in a hurry, they can't make a sound decision and probably regret later. As the saying goes, 'Haste makes waste.' We should think carefully before making a decision and do our work less quickly. We should not make mistakes by doing work hurriedly. Slowing down the pace of life helps people enjoy their life better. For example, taking a train to some place certainly will take more time than taking a plane. However, taking a train makes people have enough time to get to know a lot of new friends. Besides, it allows people to fully enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way. On the contrary, being in a hurry will make us lose chances of enjoying our lives. Finally, slower life pace provides better health conditions for us. As is known to all, taking action in a hurry bothers people and raises their stress. People think if they are not in a hurry, they will become a loser and that annoys them. But being in a hurry can hurt people both physically and mentally. According to some studies, people who have a slower pace suffer fewer diseases, tend to be happier and live much longer than those whose life is tense, even if the former finish jobs more slowly than the latter. In short, working quickly will bring about more material benefits to make our society more advanced. Yet, much stress can't bring enjoyment, friends and health, which are much more important than money and other material advantages. Therefore, take your time and live your life at a slower pace. Despite being accustomed to the fast pace in modern society, people are recommended to lead a slower life. Firstly, slowing down lowers the possibility of committing errors by comprehensive thinking. Secondly, more opportunities to enjoy life are allowed by a slower pace. Lastly, better health condition physically and mentally is also what a slower life brings. Therefore, let's take a slower life from now on. Despite being accustomed to the fast pace in modern society, people are recommended to lead a slower life;作主语: slowing down lowers the possibility of committing errors by comprehensive thinking;表语从

Unit 1 My brother, Jimmy, was born with brain damage due to a difficult delivery. Accompanying my growing up was revolving around my brother’s life and protecting him from being picked on by other kids. Unfortunately, father, who was inseparable with Jimmy, died in 1991. Jimmy was a wreck and believed that the world he’d known was gone. Even worse, mother died six months later and I alone was left to look after Jimmy. After that, Jimmy moved to New York City to live with me for a while. But he still longed to live in parents’ house and he finally returned. So far, he has lived there for 11 years and blossomed on his own. I held a party for Jimmy’ 57th birthday just a few days after 9·11 disaster, but no one of the family could come. I called on my friends to help who brought ideal presents and made it a festive and merry occasion. I knew that the constant love and support of our friends and family would get us through all the hardships in life. There had never been any limitations to what Jimmy’s love could accomplish. Unit 2 It is not infrequent for the bodies of endurance athletes to be deficient in iron. In particular, female athletes often have this problem. Even moderate exercise can cause the problem. A study indicated that formerly inactive women showed a decrease in iron levels. Iron deficiency affects many women, including exercising women, health-conscious women, etc. There are 3 stages of iron deficiency. However, most people with low iron reserves don’t know they have a deficiency. So it’s advisable for people to have a yearly blood test. In addition, people are suggested to modify their diet or take supplements such as adding more iron-rich foods. Unit 4 The Statue of Liberty is a monument built to celebrate the US independence and the France-America alliance. Holding a torch high, the statue expresses welcome to people who have affection for peace and liberty. Inspired by a German doll, Ruth designed her American version of dolls called Barbie. With long limbs and an exaggerated breast size, Barbie is shapely and beautiful. Guided by artistic theories, Wood created the portrait showing the solemn pride of American farmers. Unlike other coins in the US, the buffalo nickel honored a pair of connected tragedies, the destruction of both buffalo herds and American Indians. The story of Uncle Sam evolves from a man who inspected meat for the US Army during the war to liberate the American colonies. There are many versions of Uncle Sam’s portrait, but the most famous is in the recruiting poster, in which he is a tall man with a white beard on his chin. Unit 6

The passage tells us that----- - --.

任务型阅读 (2014·淮安调研)You say you want to be alone? Think again. Researchers have found that older people with fewer human contacts are more likely to die — even if they're happy in their isolation (孤立状态) — than people with richer social lives. The study adds to the debate over whether loneliness, social isolation, or some combination of the two leads to higher death rate. Social isolation is an objective condition in which people have little communication with others. Loneliness, on the other hand, is an emotional state felt by people who are dissatisfied with their social connections. To find out the effects of being alone versus (比对) just feeling lonely, Steptoe of University College London and his colleagues examined data from 6,500 Britons aged 50 and up who had filled out questionnaires evaluating their levels of loneliness. The most socially isolated subjects had a 26% greater risk of dying, even when sex, age, and other factors linked to survival were taken into account, the researchers report online today. They then made changes about their model to determine whether the connection to death was due to the fact that isolated people are often lonely. It wasn't. The researchers then explored the connection between loneliness itself and death. Intense loneliness also appeared to raise the risk of death by 26% —until the team took into account a host of other factors linked to survival, including wealth, education, and the presence of health problems. Once their impact had been explained, the scientists discovered that loneliness on its own didn't make people more vulnerable (脆弱的) to death. The researchers suspect that older people who have few social ties may not be getting the care they need. No one is urging them to eat right or take their medicine, and in a crisis no one is there to help. Other researchers praise the new work as rigorous (严密的) and well-controlled. But they say it's far from clear that social isolation, not loneliness, is always the real cause of increased death rate. Other studies, including an analysis of older Americans led by John Cacioppo, a psychology professor at the University of Chicago in Illinois, have shown a link between loneliness and a higher death rate. Cacioppo suspects that the disagreement between his study and the new research could lie with cultural differences between Steptoe's British subjects and Americans, and that Britons and Americans may define friends differently, too. Health psychologist Bert Uchino of the University of Utah praises the new study, but he says that researchers are still far from understanding how those two factors affect one another and other health-related behaviors.

What Is Anger? We all know what anger is, and we’ll all felt it; whether as a fleeting(短暂的) annoyance or as full-fledged rage (盛怒). Anger is a completely normal, usually healthy, human emotion. But when it gets out of control and turns destructive(破坏性的), it can lead to problems at work, in your personal relationships, and in the overall quality of your life. And it can make you feel as though you’re at the mercy of an unpredictable and powerful emotion. Ange r is “an emotional state the varies in intensity(强度) from mild irritation to intense fury(愤怒) and rage(恼怒),” according to Charles PhD, a psychologist who specializes in the study of anger. Like other emotions, it is accompanied by physiological and billogical changes; when you get angry, your heart rate and blood pressure go up, as do the levels of your energy hormones, adrenalin(肾上腺素), and nor adrenalin(降肾上腺素). Anger can be caused by both external(外部的) and internal (内部的) events. You could be angry at a specific person (such as a coworker or supervisor) or event ( a traffic jam, a canceled flight), or your anger could be caused by worrying or brooding (沉思) about your personal problems. Memories of traumatic (创伤的) or enraging events can also trigger angry feelings. 就“How to deal with anger?” The passage tells us what anger is. It may have positive or negative influence on humans.

The passage tells us that ……(that 后面的部分原文是什么时态就用什么时态) 人称:一般情况下采用第三人称来写作。 4) 使用概括性的名词代替具体的词,比如: “She brought home several Chinese and English novels, a few copies of Time and Newsweek and some textbooks. She intended to read all of them during the winter vocation.” 可以概括为:“She brought home some books to read during the vocation.” 5)用词组代替句子。 Ⅱ.
